Well, a friend of mine has a CD by Jon Butcher that is strictly blues, and
I think it's quite recent. IMHO, he's a "pretty good" guitarist, possibly
a better singer, definitely not JP or JL, but I still like his stuff.
Also, Butcher was (is?) in a band called Barefoot Servants (a great song,
"Box of Miracles", was played regularly on Denver radio for a while) - and
he sings just like Rod Stewart on some songs. FWIW.

To the guy that wrote that Ralph Macchio plays better guitar than Steve
Vai in the movie "Crossroads", you'de better start reading the end credits,
because Ralph Macchio DID NOT play those guitar parts in the movie, A guitar
player named Ry Cooder played his parts in the movie. Also , I've seen Steve
live, and I'll tell you when he went into his solo piece, I swear it looked
like the entire audience was hypnotised, he has that kind of effect. Ralph
can't even play a guitar, he said so himself in an interview from around the
    time that movie came out.

Last time I checked there weren't any dates in this area.
    Has anyone heard anything new?

BTW - I saw Tori on the 29th at the Lyric in Baltimore! We had
awesome seats!! About 6 rows back from the stage and right in
the middle!! WOW!! We could see the spit dripping off her mic!
Hmm... maybe those seats were a little TOO close. :)

    D00ds-

I am really excited that I must tell someone. I am pretty sure that I will be seeing Rush in Philly on November 6th. Didn't someone say that the tickets go on sale this weekend? Anyway, I'm really excited 'cause I've only been a Rush fan for two years and have never seen them in concert. So I'm glad that I'll finally get a chance to see them.

Yeah...luckily, I have seen DT twice.

I'd like to echo Pat G.'s sentiments about Ytsecon III. I'm not traveling the farthest distance -- we have at least one Jammer flying in from England, after all, and I'm only flying up from Atlanta! -- but I'm looking forward to seeing old Ytsejammer friends from Y'con II, and meeting new faces. If you can come, please try to attend! If not, hey, there WILL be other times, but as Savatage puts it, "THIS is the time / THIS is the place." :)

NP: Type O Negative, OCTOBER RUST. It's as if Peter Steele secretly polled me and asked me what I liked and hated about BLOODY KISSES, and then made an album based on my likes. Yum, thanks, Peter!

Post-Con activities: I think the con is scheduled to end (i.e., we have to be out of the hotel function space) at around 5 or 6pm, right? We should all plan on getting dinner somewhere where we can all fit -- this time we should pick a restaurant that still exists on this plane of the multiverse (hehe).

I'd suggest the hotel's restaurant itself if it's decent and not too awfully expensive; if not, can someone with knowledge of the LaGuardia area suggest a place? (Anyone who suggests the Fanta-Seeya! Diner will be summarily shot :)).

Hmm, if the hotel has an indoor swimming pool, I'd suggest a post-con pool party. heh

If nothing else, since many of us will have rooms at the hotel that night (and would like to get some use out of them at $100/night, thankyouverymuch), we could adjourn and have room-parties. Locals, PLEASE bring some boomboxes -- I can't bring mine on the plane. Chris Merlo and any others who arrive late because of unavoidable things, note that you can reach guests staying at the hotel by asking for their room by name when you call. "Paul Cashman's room, please." I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who forget this. :)

Let's get some stuff organized! :)

Our chances of having DT at the Euro YtseCon would be ok if we did it during their European Tour, i.e this spring. I've already mailed Stephane (French DTFC) to ask him to organize this, since he knows the band personally.

P.S. I finally heard the original version of "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" and was pretty impressed, both with the original and with DT's cover. They definitely made the song their own by adding their own special touches (especially MP). Too bad those background vocals couldn't be pulled off, because they add a whole new dimension to the sound.

Yes! You've got some ears dude!! :) I thought that too when I first heard the disc. Now, on the subject of people sounding like George Michael, how about listening to Doug Pinnick (of King's X). I mean, that's as close to GM that you can get!!!

Someone asked if it was true that King's X was dropped from Atlantic Records. It's true. I work for Atlantic and was very pissed when I heard it. Hopefully they'll sign a deal with a label that knows how to promote a band of such talent. BTW, does anyone want me to post the Rush tour dates and venues? I thought I'd ask before doing it and then finding out that the people that wanted them could just get them from the Rush mailing list.

A while back I read something about comparing stuff that's off the Exit... stage left CD (rush) with DT.. Here's my little view, obviously I've just been turned on to Rush the last few months, but I think Neil Peart's frumsolo is very alike Mike Protnoy's (I mean the other way around of course... ehhh whatever (me confused)) especially the fill with three beats on the kick drum while simentaneously hitting the ride.. (I'm sure there are fancy names for this, just don't know the terms in english, in swedish it's synkop)...

I know this was probably a joke, but just FYI, US copyright law says that two groups with the same name can coexist if they are in different fields... so a band, a graphic company, a theater, and a car company could all be called Dream Theater... UNLESS one was found using the common name in order to get attention through the fame of another's use of it... then the awyer's could have a theoretical heyday... :)

I checked out "Dream Theater", no, not our fav band but the digital design firm in CA. On the last post someone mentioned about the copyright issue. If this company has been in existance longer than DT does this mean that DT has to change their name? (again?) I certainly hope not!!!! From the look of their page though it seems like they have not been around too long. So maybe the company will need to change their name. Or is this not an issue at all? OK. Here I go again. First of all, come on people! Federico has apologized. Doesn't that at least mean we can stop chastizing him if not totally redeam him all the way. Man, I think it took guts to apologize and admit he was wrong. Thanks, Barbosa. Next, I saw Tony MacAlpine this summer. He is the most incredible guitarist I've heard. A speed demon with the clearest sense of melody since I don't know who. He also improvs all his solos which makes the fact that they sound written all the more incredible. Mike is also one of the best drummers I've heard live. He took a ten-minute drum solo in CA's The Edge and brought down the house. See these guys. They're amazing. Jen, in your signiture file, you quote Pink Floyd. Did you know that's really a Steven Hawkings quote? They got it off a commercial he did. Just a coment. Later all. Take care and be well. Matt B

Actually, a disagreement has never occurred as a result of listening to a specific type of music. We may argue about who's going to listen to what, but it's something that is always resolved speedily, with the end result being that I am subjected to an unhealthy earful of Choad, er Load (#ytsejam subreference). :) The only other time we might argue about what to play would be if one of us has had a bad day or has a headache. Certain kinds of music just rub you the wrong way at times. We've always been able to compromise though.

    >you didn't listen to this when we first met, why did I ever marry you".

Pardon my saying so, but if someone feels that your taste in music is the only reason not to be married to you, then you are better off without them. I would never be able to tolerate that kind of mental abuse, especially when my musical taste defines who I am and how I see the world to a certain degree.

I'm sorry to hear that things didn't work out for you. Who knows, maybe you'll find someone else on this list. It has happened. :)

That would depend on several factors.

    1. Has the attachment site undergone any cellular mutations or metastasized into a form that is no longer reversible?

    2. Is your level of function now dependent on the condition itself?

    3. Have you become habituated to such thing as standing on your head while voiding while ensuring that your mouth remains VERY tightly closed?

    4. Do you exclusively breathe through an oxygen mask the day after a meal of chili?

    5. Does the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles now fail to offend you in any way?

    6. Do you enjoy it when people drop a quarter in your mouth in the men's change room at the gym thinking you're some type of nudist human pay phone?

These are only a few of the factors that would determine your suitability to enrollment in our treatment program. I would suggest that you contact Pat and he can provide the necessary HMO information for you. Remember, at the YCSRF, life doesn't have to stink.

Yes! In fact, I received an e-mail from Vai yesterday and he told me that they will be playing a hybrid of Bad Horsie and Wake Me Up Before You Go live. It should be incredible!! :)

    >Robbie Alomar is a punk.

Actually, piece of excrement would come closer to the truth. When he played for us, if he had pulled that, he would have been instantly suspended by the team's management. In hockey, if you touch an official, you can be gone for 10 games with no problem. Why are people pandering to this dickhead's celebrity? Toss him now when it's relevant and hurt the Orioles. Let their potential loss fall on his shoulders. Maybe it'll teach him a lesson.

    Cheers,
