i wanted to organize a britcon, but not alot of people seemes
interested..(theres no chance of DT showing at it anyhow!)
a few people have mentioned amsterdam, would be cool in my book.. perhaps
    u-daz could organize it!

Any Boston jammers out there know where Rush is playing and how
much the tickets are yet? I just got off of the phone with the
ticketmaster lady and had no luck on a price or a location. I THOUGHT it
was the Fleet center, but perhaps I'm mistaken. All I know is when: Nov 9th.

certain DT song, and of course, its at home, 20 minutes away? I'm in one
of those Bombay Vindaloo moods, and it is at home... *sigh* There, DT

         Hey Mike!

    YT>From: Mike Estok <estok@teleport.com>
    YT>Subject: New and exciting thread!
YT> If you could make a music video for any Dream Theater song, which
YT>one would it be, and how would you do it?

YT> Personally, I would love to see a Metropolis video (who wouldn't?)
YT>It could be directed by Jonathan Landis and be a short mini movie. They
YT>could use computer graphics mixed with live actors, acting out the story of
YT>the song. When "death the first dance eternal" is released, they could
YT>maybe have a big bomb drop and a bunch of people would die. Then, with
YT>deceit, I don't know, people fighting and lying to each other or something.
(the rest you may already have read, so I erased)

Man, and I thought I was crazy. :) This is one of the craziest
    thing's I've read in my life :)

YT>is about a dude with AIDS, right? If they made this video, it would
YT>probably win all the grammies in the house.

Do you really care about grammies? I don't. :P

YT> If they want to win an MTV music award, do a video for Erotomania.
YT>Who gives a shit what the video is like, but hey, with a title like that,
    YT>it's destined for success!

Yeah, but, as you know, it's instrumental... The video had to be
very cool to overcome that "problem" for most eMpTV watchers. :)

An ACoS video would kick ass. There are plenty of ways to a movie
to fit in those lyrics. :)

Hey, folks. I've been changing the FAQ little by little over the past
while. If you'd like to check it out and let me know if anything should
be changed or added or whatever, feel free!!

A couple of our fellow jammers have been very generous and are hosting
mirror sites of the FAQ. So far, there is the original site in the
Northeast (VT), and mirrors in the Northwest (OR), Southeast (FL), and
Europe (Holland). HTML and plaintext versions are available. If you'd
like to host a mirror site of the FAQ, let me know! I'd appreciate it
    greatly.

The version number is still 4.41, although I should probably update it
to 4.5 or something. Version 5 will come out when DT's fifth album
    comes out. :)

I think that's it for now. Again, recommendations and mirror hosts are
    more than welcome!

You know what the sick thing is? I was sittin' on the toilet a day
or so ago pondering that exact same thing after listening to Vai's
new album. (The things I think of while defacating!)

    >Can anyone tell me more about this "Yanni" I've seen mentioned on the Jam? I'm
    >pretty open minded when it comes to music so you can e-mail me priv. and give
    >me some pointers on him?/her? (Doh!) /Them?!

    First, Yanni is male.

OK, Yanni is a new age composer. Most of his music is piano driven
symphonic-type stuff with a teeny bit of pop sound. His music is
completely original as far as I'm concerned. He also used to play in
and produce a band called Chameleon in the early 80's, although I've
never listened to them. If you'd like to check him out to see how
much he rocks, rent his Live at the Acropolis video. His band can
play almost as good (if not in some cases better) than DT. (didn't
mean to sin there) If anything, check out the bass player in "The
Rain Must Fall." Talk about ripping Geddy Lee a new asshole! All of
his music is insrumental, BTW (except for a few cases when some
chicks come out and harmonize along with it and make it rock harder)
Anyway, I'm a completely devoted Yanni fan-atic and hope to meet him
in rl so I can shred some keys with him.

    >hmm... make a video for any song? how about "the silent man"... and just
    >have myung sit in front of the camera :)

Yeah! An then they can have people rub their feet on his face and
whisper in his ear and lick him and wrap rope around him and take
pictures of him and make water drip on his head and... I think that
    was done already...

Hi there, you are in for a TREAT my friend.....they ALL rule. now I
know how hard it is to like EVERY disc when you receive a whole bunch
but you've hit the jackpot with these!! First off...

STRATOVARIUS: great guitar (Timo Tolkki is VERY similar to Yngwie but
without the attitude)/keys combos, awesome arrangements, soaring
melodies! (Watch out for the TOTAL Quensryche ripoff though...I'll let
you find it for yourself..its scary)

GAMMA RAY: speed, glorious melody..nuff said! one of the BEST of the
year..incidentally this is one of the rare discs I have that I have
almost lost my voice to because I was singing in the car..took me a
while to commit 100% to it (like "Streets" from the 'Tage) but when I
did I couldn't believe the emotion! "Here in dreamland we will not
obey the bastards.........." I get goosebumps just thinking about this
    album!

CONCEPTION: Another fantastic album from them...great guitar work with
intense rythms..2 or 3 clunkers but the rest are a joy! Wonder what
    their new one is like?

ATTACK: Great melodic arrangements from these virtually unknown German
metal masters. Well, basically its just Ricky Van Helden..but "The
Secret Place" is lots more progressive than previous efforts (of which
    all are great!!)...awesome album!

MERCURY RISING: I just got their disc last week and like it A LOT!!!
"Minute Man" reminds me of classic HELSTAR (not to mention AWESOME
lyrics for that song..I feel like I could crush planets in the palms of
my hands when I hear that song!!!) really dark guitar work..love this
disc more and more every minute!

LABYRINTH: Also got this disc last week and like a lot. Only heard it 3
or 4 times but it ALWAYS kept my interest...definitely talented
    musicians...I want more from them!!!

***Also, you must get ELDRITCH!!!! Buy ELDRITCH, ELDRITCH, ELDRITCH,
    ELDRITCH..they are otherworldly!!!!! Warp factor 10 guitar/keyboard
    solos!!!!!*******************

    > MAIDEN and HELLOWEEN were touring in Europe. ARHHHH!!!!!!
    > The U.S. sucks!!

Yep..the US sucks!! When I saw Maiden in NYC in March it was a
crappy club that could barely keep the wind out from the blizzard
    outside!
Another extremely shitty thing is that NEVERMORE is opening for ICED
EARTH in Europe..what an AMAZING show..both bands!!! I think I'll crawl
up into a ball and start weeping for America's musical future now!!

    cheers,
       Carlo

Sorry. After working there every day, it gets ingrained. Brainwashing? Quite possibly.

I checked this thing out. It is really, really cool. Digital Studio sort of thing. Lots of awesome graphics, and it looks like they're a relatively well-budgeted little operation, HTML and VRML and model-building and weird fantasy design and stuff. Appropriately named, I guess.

But it has absolutely nothing to do with Our Band, though...! I wonder if these people even are aware that there is a band with the same name!

I hope this doesn't turn ugly in the copyright department... the web company already has all these elaborate logos and designs and things. I don't think they can both coexist with the same name, you know?

Better tell Mike P and the Boyz to start brainstorming new names...

    Directly from the website:

"We at Dream Theater have used our collective talents to combine creative thinking with cutting edge technology. We approach all projects from an exhilarating cinematic angle employing an exciting visual aspect that commands attention. Dream Theater creates excitement."

    True.

I think I'll mail the webmaster and ask for an email account.

    Scott.
