Hey now!! I'm a wymen and I listen to my music LOUD...or at least I did until
I lost half the hearing in my right hear and a good deal in my left. :| Now,
my inner ear goes numb/ice cold if I overwork it...you really can feel your
inner ear under the right (wrong) circumstances.. but it's certainly a wake
up call for those of us who happen to have nothing beter to do with our lives
than aspire to Petruccidom... so now the volume stays low.. and only last
about 1.5 minutes LOUD before my ear starts ringing like you wouldn't believe
    and then goes numb.

IMO Parallel Minds is their best. Some people may like the new one a
lot, but it needs a few more faster sections to hold my attention. All their
    albums are well worth getting.

Hello! I Couldn't help but notice the post from Marcel about the Lemur Voice tour dates. Is there any chance they will be comming to the US? I've listen to their CD "Insights" about 6 times, and I must admit I am completely floored. I must see them live. anyways, thanks for listneing.

    Hello,

Just read the post about the Jason Becker benefit concert, and I just wanted to say that I think that's a great idea! It's nice to hear that he's still being recognised even though he can't play anymore. It seems like all the guitar magazines out there forgot about him.

I'd love to go to this, but I just can't afford it. Is there by chance any way to make donations for the event without attending? Please let me know. Thanks :)

Oh, and just wanted to say "Welcome back, Bafu" :) Good to have you back on the jam :)

Well, see you later :) Hope to see everyone at Ytsecon :) Take care..

Sorry, folx, but if all of you had ever met Toshi...*smirk* I believe a few years ago one of the bigger Chicago critics said something to the effect that, one time when he was up wanking on stage, the place cleared out "Faster than a bathroom at a Texas chili contest." ;) Unfortunately, I probably won't go to this (medical reasons) as much as I love Jason Becker and his work!

Sorry, just had to share all that with you. Now you can get on with your regularly scheduled readings... ;)

Oh, DTC: Hey, if they can't find a producer, *I'll* do it! I spent a year in recording tech...besides, the engineers are the ones who do most of the studio work..the producer just sets budgets and is nitpicky. I can do THAT! :)

Actually the best part of the first Con for me was getting to meet everybody that I was writing to and watching Mike Portnoy hustle his butt across the room to get Marlene a brownie (does anybody else remember that?) - that was funny. Geez, sure hope that he's not reading this (laugh). No wait a minute, really the best part was after Mike P played the tape of ACoS and when it was finished he nabbed the tape saying "I'd better grab this before someone else does..."

To me Skid Row changed alot from their first album to their third Subhuman Race. I find it a little grungy and that it sounds too much like the last Motley Crue album Motley Crue. Just a little too grungy. Bach does sound great though on Working Man and on another tribute called Spacewalk-tribute to Ace Frehley.

And on the topic of significant others, my live in fiancee does like DT to some degree. She like some of my music but hates others. She doesn't really care for Fates Warning and really hates King's X and Sepultura...

She doesn't understand playing music loud (unless it is her music!). When we are in the car she always turns down my stereo (I can't talk to you when its that loud). Hello! I can't hear it when you are talking...

I Was just scanning through the latest of the ytsejams and I noticed that someone was talking about Tony MacAlpine's bass player, Ricky Wolking. I'm not here to doubt this person's opinion about Wolking, but I was thinking of another bass player that rips it up. I'm talking about none other than, Mr. Big's Billy Sheehan. This guy is a sick bass player. He practically plays the bass at the speed of Paul Gilbert and his guitar. You probably have heard Billy bringin' the house down on the Rush tribute. Some of the stuff that he did with David Lee Roth is absolutely mystifying. If those of you who are afraid to go into a record store to buy a Mr. Big album, your missing out on a bunch of outstanding musicians. Billy's speed tricks are showcased on a Mr. Big video called, Mr. Big: Live in San Fransisco (from the Warfield) Billy trades licks with Gilbert which are just as fast. He wouldn't surprise me if he could do sweeps on a six-string bass. Anyways, I'm just trying to let everyone know that Billy and Mr. Big can play with the best of 'em. For all the progressive fans out there, on Mr. Big's new album, Hey Man, one of the songs is in 18/8 time. Later!

    Hello all,

I've found a source for prog. rock in the UK. Their catalogue has apparently all the bands discussed frequently on the list. Their name is GFT and the number is 0181-339-9965 (Mon-Fri). So, now there is no reason to miss out on the great stuff the US jammers have got their grubby mitts on :), as it seems my credit card will now be going into overtime in the next few months...

I've received Echolyn's 'As the World', and though it's not as heavy as my usual stuff, it certainly grows on you; they seem to be a mixture of King's X and Alice in Chains (both of which I really couldn't 'get into').

Recently I also got hold of Angra's 'Holy Land', (as frequently recommended here also), and you know what?, this one of the most musically beautiful CDs I've got this year, it's just brilliant. How did you guys get to hear about them in the first place? BTW if you like Angra, then give Conception's 'Parallal Minds' and more recently 'In Your Multitude' a try. They are quite similar and the lead singer also has the same fantastic soaring vocals as on Holy Land.

Somebody earlier recommended a Prodigy 'techno' album that might be of interest to jammers. I also suggest the soundtrack from Mortal Kombat. It has a mixture of pumping-dance tracks and grinding metal from GZR, Nalpalm Death, and Type-O Negative. Graham B., I remember you recommending 'Ozric Tentacles' from a few jams ago - are they similar to the above? Thanks in advance.

Phew...the flames earlier this week were nicely fanned (and some actually quite funny :) ). There was a point about the later Rush ,1980's, as being 'not-as-good' as their earlier stuff. My collection consists of only MP upwards, and though I've tried some of the pre-80's stuff I couldn't wrap my head around Geddy's high-vocals and the muddy/muffled production sound. A good reason for this is that my first Rush album was HYF, and this has been my 'reference point' for the definitive sound of Rush. Does this happen for you guys and other bands with established histories?

Neil (DTIFC), thanks for another good issue. BTW will I miss out on the DT photographs when I renew my sub.? as my current sub. had not expired when DTIFC was re-launched with all the goodies for new subscribers.

    Regards everybody,

    Ash.

Hey, I was just watching Mystery Science Theater sooo: The Movie last night and noticed a reference to a revered prog band (not DT here) that I hadn't noticed when I saw it last Spring. For those of you who haven't seen it (and you should, really :), there's a scene where the flying saucer in the crappy movie the guys are watching lands on this planet (obviously a very cheesy painted scene thing). Well, one of the 'bots watching the flick says something like "hey, they're landing on a Roger Dean album cover," to which one of the other guys says "yeah, these guys are big Yes fans" or something like that. I almost fell out of my chair. That has got to be the funniest movie I have seen in a LONG time. Hey, one more activity for jammers to do at a St. Louis con. We could crash the Steve & DC show (though we'd have to get up early). They're broadcast out at Westport, and they have one of those keen windows where you can watch them as they do the show, so this would be an easy one to do. BTW, they have used DT as bumper music before (it's a morning talk show (that's REALLY funny) for those of you who don't know). Later all.
