"Long Island Expressway" from Acoustic Dreams. The boys would all be
sitting on the back of a flatbed truck, cruising down the expressway. All
dressed as progressive-metal beatniks. All seated cross-legged. Large
bonfire in the middle. Perhaps some real scenes of the cordial environment
known as Any Highway In New York would add drama and dignity to the
overall project, as well as a touch of nostalgia for those who have since
    left the NY area...

Perhaps a few shots of 18-wheelers with large silver Bulldogs on their
hoods, people flipping each other off, police pulling people over for
speeding/cursing/driving, people waving firearms out their windows,
18-wheelers jacknifing all over the place, police flipping each other off,
police waving firearms out their windows, etc. Sherinian would be roasting
marshmallows or chestnuts or something since there are no keyboards in
this song. Portnoy would be smoking. LaBrie could do his parts just by
screaming at passing cars. This would attract little attention as the
usual backdrop of screams and threats encountered while driving anywhere
in New York would camouflage it completely.

Yes sir, Dream Theater could SWEEP the MTV video music awards if only they
would come around to my way of thinking. :)

    > When "death the first dance eternal" is released, they could maybe have
    > a big bomb drop and a bunch of people would die.

Then right after the line "somewhere, like a scene from a memory" they
could superimpose Mike Bahr into the video, doing his LaBrie-choreography
impressions, lip synching to the backup line, "scene from a memory," while
simultaneously waving a copy of the actual cd he put together right in the
    camera... (advertising, people, think! THINK!!)

    > Then, with deceit, I don't know, people fighting and lying to each other
    > or something.

For this they could just grab some footage of the audience during the
    Birch Hill show.

Come to think of it, that same footage could probably be used for the
"swimming in a lake of fire" line, too... Or some shots of the band in a
200-meter butterfly relay through laplanes of fire.

    > Then comes the big bang...the instrumental portion.

Are you telling me that before the existence of the universe, The Void was
    busy laying down vocal tracks?

    with our favorite bands???

Hey Damon. I can't make it to the con.

    :)

    > come on, if Mike Bahr can come from across the country, then why can't > the rest of you?

Are we supposed to guess? Uh... Mike Bahr doesn't have a job. Mike Bahr isn't in school taking 18 credits of classes. Mike Bahr isn't busy crafting new changes with his eyes. Mike Bahr didn't just drive from Bethesda, MD, to Seattle, WA, and feels rather peppy about travelling across the country. Or maybe it's just that Mike Bahr has more power than Donald Trump and Pat Choate put together.

Well, only three days and counting 'til Y'Con III.

I'm looking forward to it. Whether or not anyone from the band is there, it'll be good to see some old friends from Y'con II and meet some new ones.

My airfare, all $201, is nonrefundable. Someone asked me on IRC if, had my airfare been refundable, I would cancel it (and the entire trip) since it appeared DT wouldn't be there. I thought about it and said "Nahhh." DT fans are among the coolest music fans -- or just people -- around!

I'm looking forward to three days in NY and I'm hoping to hook up with anyone arriving Fridayish and leaving Mondayish. I'm sure there's some trouble we can get into, places we can explore.....

Mike Bahr, we have a hotel room there (two of us) and you could crash with us if you'd like, to save on costs.

If we need a meeting point on Sat. night, my room (also under Chris Oates' name) might suffice. For $100, might as well get -some- use out of it. :)

    Howdy jammerz!

Here's my vision of the new DT album:

It'll be a double CD (Yeah, I know they said they won't do it but...), on CD is normal audio with like 80 mins crammed on.... And the second one is a CD-rom for PC and Macintosh with the video for the first single, and some clips from the studio, perhaps an interview (Uuhhh, better stop druling.....) and so on....

I could settle for a normal double audio-CD though.... :)

Uuuhh, better stop dreaming and get some work done......

Thanks goodness someone agrees with me here! I'm not normally into the Skid Row type music, but I thought their debut was good and "Slave to the Grind" was awesome. I bought the new one when it came out and was *very* disappointed.

Yep. It's the general sound which makes the album so bad. The guitar and drum sounds aren't a patch on "Slave to the Grind". It seems as though Skid Row were trying to lose the glam image but I really can't stand the grunge sound they use on the new album.

I can't really understand why so many people like it, although if you're into the grunge stuff I suppose you would prefer it to the first two albums.

I sold my copy after a month.

    Hi all

a bit later than I expected, but I promised a report of the Out Of The Dark concert that I went to last week, so here it is.

ROTTING CHRIST Can't say anything about them, because I got held up in a big traffic jam on the way. Does anybody know anything about them?

THEATRE OF TRAGEDY Orgasmic. The contrast between the two singers (she: soprano, he: gothic metal grunter) is even greater live than on the albums. They played a set of about 45 minutes, mixing a couple of older things together with lots from the new album. Beautiful, melodic doom/gothic metal, very atmospheric, and vocals that give your goose pimples goose pimples. If any of you ever get the chance to see this band, do yourselves a huge favour. I also got my CDs autographed by the whole band (the female singer is just so cute -nearly got trouble with my girlfriend for looking at her too much when they were on stage).

MOONSPELL Like Theatre of Tragedy, they featured the new album heavily. A lot darker than Theatre of Tragedy, but musically just as good. They put on more a of a show, and the audience got more involved. The show and the back projections reminded me a lot of Tiamat live. Once again, my CDs were autographed by the whole band. Nice guys, too.

SAMAEL Brutal and powerful and excellent. The keyboarder, XY, plays keyboards, operates/programs the drum machines and plays drums. This guy reminded me more of Animal from the Muppets than even Mike Protnoy does. It was impossible not to move around to this music, so much power, hardness, drive and aggression. Let the sweat run. Also a great light show. Guess what: my autographing pen (special silver ink) did some more work.

GOREFEST Sounded like Thin Lizzy meets Motorhead. Yuk. The singer sounded like every note have to battle its way through six inches of phlegm before it could drop out of his mouth. I left after half an hour and another beer. No autographs this time.

As always in this club, the sound was excellent. Just another 17 days before I see Superior and Angra at the same venue (eat your hearts out, suckers). Just to really rub it in, Stratovarius and Rage will be playing there this weekend and I've nearly talked myself into going.

No responses yet about my proposed Ytsejam Album Of The Year poll. Let me know asap if you are interested, so that I can make my plans more concrete.

    'nuff said for today.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag) Currently playing: Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill

Well, most of this is about the Con. :D

Some people are upset because DT may not be at the Con. You are missing the point as Pat said. It would be nice to have the "honored guests" but the Con is a gathering of the members (and non-member) to gig together. They are invited, just like you. If you cannot make it because of one reason or another, the rest of us aren't pissed. We understand. We should take that stance with DT. If they can make it, I'm sure they'd like to be there. If they can't, they can't. Afterall, not every cast member makes it to all of the Star Trek conventions. I know that there are many people who risked reputation, money as well as time and effort on organizing this. It wouldn't be nice to pull out just because someone isn't going to show. We're all above that sort of game or at least should be. Yes, money doesn't grow on trees and the expense can be high to go depending on where you are coming from. But don't go to the Con with the wrong ideas. It isn't a press meet and greet with the band members. It is a gathering of a group of friends that have a common interest. Face it. This list is like a giant group of penpals. Modern technology has made it so that we don't have to wait for days (or weeks) for the next message. In many cases, members have not met each other or only on a limited basis. This is an opportunty to come out and meet your penpals. Take the opportunity as such.

I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna meet up with some old and new friends. If I meet DT, that will be an added bonus but if they are not there, I will group them with the other friends who just could not make it this time around. ;-)

I plan on bringing some stuff (depends on what I wrestle from NEC for the weekend.) that will help make this Con an event to remember.

This not true! I happened to be at that concert (in Nottingham). You were right about that drunk guy shouting and singing during the quiet parts of Surrounded, but James did NOT jump into the crowd. He walked off the stage after singing "...I know it's easier to walk away" and dropped his microphone. The crowd started to laugh, but got worried when he didn't show up again. Mike started to sing a short passage of Surrounded (didn't sound too good however;) ). After that DT had to play 3 instrumentals. But let's forget about this, it happened 4 years ago... Hi folks-

Let me ask you a question about The CDCellar, a place that specializes in bootlegs and imports (in Ohio). I sent in money for a double Rush CD called "mirrors" about a month and a half ago and I never got my CD. It's weird because I ordered a Queensryche CD from this place back in July and it came to my house nine days later. So I'm curious (and worried) about why it's taking so damn long for the Rush CD. If anyone can shed some light on this place or anything, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
