    Hey all,

Been away from the 'jam for over a year, but I'm back in the fold. Still
the same old faces here, which is good to see.

Hey, does anyone want to buy my Echolyn 'As the World' for around $5? I
just CANNOT get into it at all, and I've tried. God, how I've tried.

I did just get Stabbing Westward's latest. Why are they never mentioned
here? Hey, it's like cheery NIN, only better. What a great album.

FINALLY got SG's 'Carved in Stone'. Don't know. A little gothic at times
    - not as complex musically as I had been led to believe. I think about ten
    more listens are in order.

Finally, is I Mother Earth as great as I think they are? I saw them open
for DT in Chicago, and while most the DT fans there looked as if they could
have cared less, I thought IME could lock into a HUGE groove. They blew me
away. The sounds samples on their web page from 'Scenery and Fish' are
great. Tell me I need to buy this one.

Lastly, is anyone here into Midnight Oil? How is their new one. Love
their last one. And you can forget Rush, DT, etc. There is NO better live
band on the planet than the Oils.

Sorry no DT content (unless you want to hear my usual musings about John
Myung's great bass playing and SHITTY bass tone).

Well, from what I've hard, Chris Collins had quite a poor stage presence...
If you've heard any LIVE majesty like from the No Sleep Since Brooklyn CD,
or from bootleg tapes, you get the picture.. Just listen to when he introduces
the rest of the band ... "Mike Portnoy on the set...john myung on bass,
Kevin moore on keys, john petrucci on guitar.. and this chris collins comin'
at cha ..." ...and when he introduces "march of the tyrant"... ok you get the
picture..He wasn't that much of a frontman for them.

I think there was at least a 2 year interval from the time that Chris Collins
got the boot and when Charlie D. came in. It was apparently a pretty extensive
    search for a new singer..

    Hope this helps,

    Tim

(IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE SEEING THIS POST, PLEASE
READ IT THROUGH COMPLETELY, THERE IS ALOT OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION)

    Hey All ....

Here is my new weekly posting about how to get the most
(or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will
be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are
quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session.
I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be
    weekly.

To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            subscribe ytsejam Your Name

replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg).
You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your
mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail
ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon
    as possible.

To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in:
There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in
digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which
contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means
you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            set ytsejam mail ack

            OR

            set ytsejam mail digest

If you have any problems, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com.

To get off the Dream Theater Mailing List:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            unsubscribe ytsejam

You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours.
If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com
and I will help you out as soon as I can.

To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:

There are many files kept by the mailing list server.
The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is
archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue
earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and
I will see what I can do. There are also other files
kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates,
The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others.
Any time I add something I usually send a post to the
jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the
    files available from the server:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            index ytsejam

This will send you a list of all the files available from
the server. To retrieve one of these files:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            get ytsejam filename

In place of filename, put the name of the file you
    want.

    Basic Rules:

There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's
reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as
closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people
who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second
offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.

    1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already
a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary
posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule
you should all try to follow is to think before you post.

    2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists
are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up
everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled
up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask
for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been
done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very
    nice.

    3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic
discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past.
If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to
private email, anyone continuing the discussion will
recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind
    Melon, bands selling out, etc.

    4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it
may be more useful than posting to the jam.

    5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around,
and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot
be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way.
I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain
if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any
problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis,
so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the
time, I will get back to you eventually.

Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!

I am a little slow on some things but it took a while to find this
one, just picked up Lemur Voice for 6 bucks. what a great disc,
awesome band. would have to agree the singer is a tad whiny but the
music kicks ass. 6 bucks, great music, does life get any better.

    cheers

    >"Surrounded," because it's kinda mainstream, and doesn't have a lot of
    >meter-shift. Then hit some heavier stuff to show versatility, ala "Lie,"
    >or "the Mirror.".....

A month ago or so I put together for my girlfriend what I called "The
Official DT Conversion Mix". Of course, it ain't official at all, but here's
what I managed to squeeze onto a 90 or so minutes cassette:

    Side One:
            1.Wait for Sleep
            2.Learning to Live
            3.Surrounded
            4.Another Day
            5.Space-Dye Vest
            6.To Live Forever
            7.The Silent Man
            8.Eve
    Side Two:
            1.Scarred
            2.The Mirror
            3.Lie
            4.Metropolis Pt.1
            5.Take The Time
            6.Lifting Shadows off a Dream

You see, I tried to put tunes that are more accessible to a first-time
listener on side one, sort of a "get your feet wet" effort. Then a heavier
dose is on side two. LSoaD is on side two because it was short enough to
squeeze into the leftover tape. I'd have put PMU if there were enough tape,
just because it rocks and is very listenable.

Can't say I haven't tried to recruit. By the way, the music is slowly yet
surely growing on her. I due time, we will have another..........

no way!! another iowa jammer! WOOOO! :) they're not playing any
venues in iowa last time i checked... your best bet is Minneapolis.
a friend of mine saw them play at the Five Seasons Center in the
early 80's... he hung around after the show and got to meet one or
two of the band members... don't recall which ones off hand.
anyways, they told him that they'd never play that venue again due to
    the poor acoustics.

just roadtrip. ames to minneapolis isn't too bad of a drive. :)
i'd be at the show if it wasn't for this little nuisance called work.

BLASPHEMER!!!!!!! Decaf is of the devil. :) Well anyway, that is
interesting about the comments on WM. I never did take part in the
debate (that I can remember :), but I did have thoughts on it.

Man, my "hard-core" friend here called DT a "cock rock" band again
the other night. Don't get up in arms. he's taken care of,
    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
It is interesting, though. I was playing him part of Vai's Fire
Garden stuff. He thought it was "that cock rock" band again (I
hadn't told him who it was ahead of time). I told him it was the new
Vai. He then said, "Oh, I sort of like some of his stuff." BTW,
this guy digs Queensryche, too, but thinks that Maiden's glam and
DT's cock rock. Whatever... . Cheers.

hehe, tell him to look you in the face and hold up the inner jacket picture
of Queensryche in Rage For Order and tell you they're not cock rock and dt
is. then whip it out, piss all over the guy, and say "now THAT'S cock rock"
then kick him in the nuts for me and say "and THAT'S cock rock" then crank
"the mirror" and say "it may rock your cock, but it aint cock rock!"

so i just got back from the rush show, and i just have to say that neil
peart's drumming so hurt my brain, that i think he left one of his sticks up
    my ass.

but to tell you the truth, as much as i happen to be in excruciating pain,
i'm beginning to like his stick up there.

seriously, it was a real good show. some unexpected tune selections, they
could have played a little longer in the 2nd half and stuck to more older
shit (the deal that the first half is all new shit and the second all old is
just that, bullshit- they split it up quite thruout).

GO SEE THEM! YOU WILL LOVE THEM!

plenty more to talk about, but another day.

Well, looks like there was a small oversight in my shirt updates...
namely my address was in there as 573 instead of 537. I'd like to thank
Bafu for pointing that out to me... Anyhow, please send requests to:

    Pat Griffin
    537A Hudson Hall
    1202 E Rollins St.
    Columbia, MO 65201

If you sent something to 573, don't worry, it's a small dorm, and I run
the computer labs, so everyone knows me, I'll still get the mail.. :)

Also, if you're going to order, try to do it soon... I have to sell 16
more before then end of the month to pay off the shirt company, after
that I can take my time paying back my friend for his loan.

15 orders shipped out on Wednesday, and I recieved confirmation on 1/3 of
them already, so things seem to be going pretty smoothly... I'll try to
get a new update out early next week...
