I think the first tune you should turn them onto is "UAGM" then go for
"Surrounded," because it's kinda mainstream, and doesn't have a lot of
meter-shift. Then hit some heavier stuff to show versatility, ala "Lie,"
or "the Mirror." I've won quite a few over with strategies akin to this,
including my musical-neophyte girlfriend, who is now an avid and versed DT
fan. (it took me a while, though, to get her to know what the songs wer
called... INPUT!!! too Much INPUT!!!) However, I have managed to ruin
her for all other music but prog... She gets bored by the lack of meter
changes... go figure...

I don't know what he's doing these days, but I agree whole heeartedly about
Charlie. Comparing him to LaBrie is like comparing a Ferrari to a Miata, but
I think he's not NEARLY as bad as a lot of people make him out to be. I'm
going to commit Ytse-suicide here and admit to the whole jam that WDADU IS
my favorite DT album. The quality of the disc isn't like the other releases,
but they didn't have the money to make it with like they've had with the
others. I like the fact that there are NO ballads on the record and I just
think the band sounds better than they have on anything they've done since.
I'm aware that som e prog snobs and others who think they know more about DT
than I do and tell me how wrong I am, but I'm not. To me, WDADU rules! That
doesn't mean I don't like their other CD's, because I love ALL their stuff,
but I just like their first CD best.
QUESTION: Does anyone know why when Majesty changed their name that they got
Charlie to sing instead of keeping Chris? I happen to really like his voice
and was surprised when I first heard his stuff with Majesty that they didn't
keep him around.

Hello all,
Just thought I might post this, as I know some of you out there are
interested in the band. They are going to be playing November 1st
at the University of Central Florida Arena here in Orlando, as part
of UCF's homecoming concert. They are the headliners, and there
are 4 other bands on the list: Dishwalla, Blue Tones, Ash, and
Refreshements. Who knows who the heck these other bands are,
probably local stuff or regional stuff. Anyway, showtime starts at
7pm, and tix are $17.50, however, I am an alumni, and tix are only
$12.50, I am probably gonna go, and if anyone wants me to get them
discounted tix I'd be glad to.

From what i know, they tried to register the Majesty logo when they realised that someone else already had the name. the people who originally had the name didn't want to give it up, which meant that they needed a new name.
..i think it's in the faq, but don't quote me on that.

Dishwalla does that really crappy song "Counting Blue Cars"
the "refreshments" do that stupid song where they mention captain jean-luc picard.

DTC: Just got Carpe Diem today, so if you're waiting for yours, stay cool, it will show up eventually. Packaging is really nice, some good pics, I'd rate the sound around a B/B+, a little much audience noise, but other than that, well worth having. Peace.

It's bizarre, agreed, but don't take it as a side project. Patton has been in Mr. Bungle since he was 15 (that is 5 years prior to the beginning of his Faith No More era), and both bands have an equal importance to him. His solo album would more likely qualify as a "side project".

Actually, I think some of the comparisons with the Dead have to do with the extended jamming that takes place at live Phish shows. Apparently, no two shows are the same, with constantly shifting set lists and jams and the like. Their live album tends to bear this out, I think, as it has something like 10 tunes (including several non-album tracks) on 2 discs that take up over 2 hours of music. That's some damn long jams! :) By comparison, the tracks on the studio album I have (_Rift_) are all around 4-5 minutes.
Um, about tomorrow's Rush show. I wish I was there. Hey, it's in the subject line. ;)

Ahhhhhh I LOVE to read the Ytsejam just after a big event happens that somehow involves Dream Theater !
The Ytsecon messages from people who were there make for great reading! Just makes me wish I could go but since I had to miss out, I love reading about the experiences the 'Jammers go through.
I loved reading about the special concerts after ACOS was released also.
My hat is off to those who continue to post and contribute positive material to keep this list thriving !!!
CARPE DIEM ---------- I finally received my CD of Carpe Diem and I am blown away by the picture quality of the guys in the band on the cd foldout !!!! These pictures look like they were taken on the stage itself and they are crystal clear ! No blurs, no flaws, and the highlight is Mike staring right at the camera giving a combination thumbs-up/gunshot sign ! These guys are relaxed on stage outside of the States. James, Derek and John P. wearing some shades.
Audio quality on this boot recorded outdoors is wonderful. 1. Intro 2. Under a Glass Moon 3. Lifting Shadows off a Dream 4. Voices 5. A Change of Seasons (boot recorded before ACOS CD came out) 6. Another Day 7. Pull Me Under 8. 6:00 9. a little something extra :)
Excellent outdoor DT bootleg. It was well worth the long wait !!
Brought back memories of when DT played in Dallas on the I&W tour outdoors at Dallas City Limits. The night was perfect for an outdoors show. Galactic Cowboys opened and walked on/off stage during "Take the Time" and sang chorus : )
