    G'day jammers,
I am only new to computers, so forgive me if this sounds really dumb.
I have down loaded the DT and Rush theme for W95, and I have MS Plus!
But how do I get the thing to run?? can anyone help??
As far as I know ACOS has been around since WDADU, James sung the song
as part of his audition for the band (I have the demo)

Ahhh! The receipt of three Bahr Selections occured today with the USPS
    delivery of none other than:

            1. When Dream And Today Unite
            2. Antiquities
            3. Scenes From A Memory
            4. Critical Mass

Found to be particularly amusing are the liner notes for WDATU. Also, thank
goodness John Arch couldn't accept their offer as replacement to Dominici.
Yikes! What were they thinking? (No offense to all of you early-days Fates
fans.) Now I'm +really+ itching for Precious Things, and then the other
planned Prism Records releases for the coming year. You GO, Mike!

When do we get to hear some Scoobaca?

I'm scattered today....I can't focus worth a damn. So one message becomes
    two. At any rate...

The Aquarium Rescue Unit. Oteil Burbidge is officially one of the scariest
bassists on earth. Bill Dickens and Victor Wooten were brought up as
similar players, which is actually, legitimately, the class Burbidge is in.
I'd add Muzz Skilling to that list. It's more a picking-hand conceptual
thing that they all have in common. Weird and wild stuff....I TRY at that
kind of thing, but it ain't happening....

Tool and Soundgarden as progressive: Well, I'D say they are, but a lot of
folks tend not to agree with me. I have a very broad view of progressivity
and would say that, for example, Maiden and Metallica have played some
pretty progressive music (in fact, I'd STILL say Maiden's an increasingly
progressive band, Metallica is probably less so now). Clockhammer, King's
X, Atomic Opera, and Primus are all progressive, I'd say, too. Even some of
the contemporary alternative bands (most, maybe, even) have some LEANINGS
that way. To me, Live and Pearl Jam sound more like Rush, Zeppelin, and Yes
than The Ramones. On the other hand, the whole scene is bastardized --
Warren Cucurullo playing with Duran Duran, Paul Simon and Bill Laswell both
playing with Olodun (and the whole history or Material, really), bands like
Mr. Bungle and the old Band of Susans fusing together hyper-agressivity and
contemporary classicism. And I'd say that mess is, in and of itself, a
progresive mess. At any rate, Tool and Soundgarden fit neatly into a
conversation here, I'd say (there are probably more people here that LIKE
both bands than DISLIKE both bands). Whether they're progressive or
    not....hmmmm. My vote is registered.

Thoughts (More than one this time, I swear):

I would say "Awake" is definitely a step AWAY from "Images and Words." I
dunno that I'd say it's forward. Probably off to the side. "Images and
Words" is my favorite DT disc, but "Awake" is also a phenomenal work.
Nothing to be ashamed of, for sure. And I like that the band has been
playing with different things, stylistically and compositionally. All the
great bands (in my book...Rush, Metallica, Jethro Tull, Yes, Zeppelin,
Weather Report) tackle NEW things from album to album. I'm heartened that
Dream Theater has done the same.

The more I'm listening to "Carved in Stone," the more I'm hearing WDADU.
It's a little weird. Particularly in the first couple of tunes....they
certainly wouldn't be totally incongruous on the first record. It's kinda
weird, really. Still, I'd say Shadow Gallery's got a good sound and is
strong, compositionally. I'm increasingly impressed...and would REALLY
recommend the record to those of you who don't yet have it.

Finally, I just want to affirm again that the new Vai and Galactic Cowboys
efforts are awesome. Enough of that.

No. Phish is a band from right here in my home-away-from-hometown of
Burlington, VT. I haven't heard a whole lot of them, but I've liked what
I've heard. They've been (unfairly, I think) compared to the Dead, but
I'm pretty sure it's because the Dead following has been converting to
Phish, with the following the tour and the chemical amusement aids and
whatnot. They're a four piece band - guitar, bass, keys, drums. They
have some great vocal harmonies, and seem to be very comfortable with
experimentation - time sigs and the like. Again, I haven't heard much,
but I've been meaning to pick some up. I think - and I could be wrong -
that fans of old Floyd and old Yes might dig it. Some really good
instrument playing, some great singing, and some catchy hooks. Find
yourself a used CD and see if you like it.

Those of you that are going to be in Albany tomorrow night - we should
meet somewhere. My seats are 7th row, Ged's side, if you want to find me
(Andy and Brian). Otherwise, we can pick a more accessible location.
    Let me know!

Speaking of things I never got, I was one of the first to EVER send money in
for Carpe Diem and I STILL haven't got mine; Now I know better than to deal
with people accross the pond. From now on my money stays here in the USA.

I can concurr on this. I sent a sweat shirt and sweat pants over to Holland
and to send it surface mail was over $12 and to send it air mail was $25! The
whole package weighed LESS than 3 lbs.

John Arch really didn't want that track put on the CD (yes, he knows about
it) because of the quality of the performance. I know some people tend to
think that vocalists are perfect all the time, but they're not. I think if
this were a properly mixed recording where the vocals weren't so prominent
in the mix it would've sounded much better. The reason I say this is because
of the Arch stuff from his Fate's days I think his voice is great, and to
judge him by a inferior bootleg recording isn't fair.

That would be Vannesa-Mae. I saw that show to and bought her CD, "The Violin Player" (Duh!?!). It's actually pretty good. It has a few references to classical music (Toccata and Fugue in D minor, etc.) all played with drums, guitars, etc. I recommend it for those who like electric violins and stuff. She can rock and stuff, but not quite rok nadz.

    >have a few gripes. I can barely understand the vocals, which I think >has something to do with the production since I can understand Gregoor

Hey, Mike! While you're giving out award and stuff, why not gice Gregoor the infamous, "I sing like James LaBrie during the interlude of Innocence Faded and noone can understand me! Award." Serious, they give it out at the Grammys every year! I can follow along in the liner notes and still not figure out what he's singing. Great voice, though. Kinda Gary Cherone-ish with a touch of LaBrie. IbnzRG570 aka Mr. Chuckalupugus

That's funny, the people I terminated yesterday didn't seem to see any humor in the procedure at all. Oh well, maybe they suffer from seasonal affective disorder. ;)

It's a standard disc, but the liner contains a small packet of cocaine autographed by John DeLorean. ;)

    Hiya,

    >Anyway, I'm off to cast my votes. I hesitate to vote for DT as my >favorite band. I feel Rush has made such an impact on music today that >I want to state that publically. I'll vote for DT using my friend's >account !^)>

Ah, a man of true conviction! ;)

Actually, I agree with you. Rush has been my favorite band since I bought their first album in 73. However, I won't be saying that if Counterparts 3 is released in 2 years. ;) DT is my panacea for complexity in hard rock, but Rush is a part of my life. It was around during some of the most important points of my life and it is truly a part of what makes me ME.

Woah! That's opening a big can of worms!

After all of the themes that Neil has explored lyrically, I'm amazed that you can say that. Nobody's Hero deals with anonymity vs. celebrity and the true value of human contributions. Time Stand Still discusses the need to embrace life lest we should let it slip by all too quickly. Witch Hunt reminds us of the dangers of ignorance and prejudice. Losing It reveals the pain of abilities and dreams lost. Red Sector A deals with the liberation of the camps from the Nazis. Those are all things that not only make me think, they strike an emotional chord as well. I think you would find it difficult to find one person on this list who hasn't had at least one Rush track as a meaningful back drop to their life.

OK, I'm in! Get me a green card! ;)
