Aw....man, I wish I could get a radio station around here that had enough
balls to break away from the mainstream and play some f'ing DT.
Actually, I did hear PMU on Z-Rock, the national station, the other day at
lunch time. I was really surprised. So, I'm calling them today at lunch and
asking them to play LSOAD or maybe even a little ACOS??? Yeah,
right...if it's not 4.3 minutes or under I can forget it.

Anyway, I usually crank up 6:00 in the morning to get me started on my
way to work. Really loud!!!!! Then a little Lie to smooth me oe out and
finally LSOAD so I don't walk in to work shaking........

First of all, this shouldn't be on the 'Jam because I *know* no
one wants to hear about this anymore. I'm not a Jeremy who goes out and
specifically is looking to screw people over (I think he's done it to at
least 5 or 6 people) - I don't trade with anyone now not because they
wouldn't (I'm sure I can find people who would do trades from either the
'Jam or not) but because I know that I wouldn't be able to give anything
in return. You're the only person that I never sent anything back to.
As for getting a bad rap as a trader, fine, I don't do trades anymore.
As for getting a bad rap as a *person*, I wouldn't think that's the case
at all....and if it is, well then you don't know me one bit (hopefully
some of the other people on the 'Jam that I've spoken with would agree).

But enough about that, this is supposed to be about DT and stuff,
right? I just got "Carved in Stone" by Shadow Gallery and an Anacrusis
CD (for $3!). I still haven't listened to them yet, but I'm thinking
that I will like 'em - ''Jam recommendations are usually pretty good.

PRB here. For those of you who don't know already, Steve Vai's newest release, "The Fire Garden," is awesome. The Vai-Man does some interesting Satch-quoting in the first track, and I think that in tracks 11-15 and 17, he does a hell of a good job surpassing everyone's expectations with his singing ability. WOW! I had never heard him do more than backing vox, and "Damn You" blew my mind. Look out for track 16... When I was a Little boy, i liked to play with my weenie too... but didn't we all?

    Hello Jammers,

Just to let the expectant know. I received my new DT T-shirt (thanks Pat, they look awesome!), and my copy of Carpe Diem over the last two days. Carpe Diem is a very clear audience recording, a but low on output but you can jack it up and it sounds good. My CD-player had a few tracking problems with it from the on-set but I wiped off the CD and it resolved the problems. This surprised me since my CD-player don't give me trouble with any of my 400 or so CDs. Overall a good live CD pick-up though not as impressive as Lost in the Sky or The Dance of Eternity.

I also picked up "Billy Breathes" by Phish and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" by Genesis yesterday. I had parts of Lamb on live recordings so I figured that I ought to buy the remaster. The new Phish album is pretty awesome, I recognize about half of the songs from the concert in Hershey, PA over the summer.

    Later,

    Mike

Just a quick note on Saviour Machine. The re-release of their second album and their live album are both on the label MCM Music, which is based out of Germany. Their procuction company or whatever is Malineum (that's how it's spelled on the live CD cover) Productions, and is based in California (from what I understand, Eric Clayton himself oversees all the merchandising and stuff). They do have a video to go along with the live album, but I've never seen it (it is quite expensive for a vid, but worth it from what I understand). I plan on getting it sometime in the very near future, though. That's real cool about their new stuff supposedly coming out early next year. I knew they were working on stuff, but didn't know when it was supposed to be due out. For any of you all that love the sort of darker/depressive style like "Space Dye Vest," check this band out. Or if you just dig some good, dark, moody music, go for it. GREAT band. I was one of the fortunate ones to see them when they played St. Louis a few years ago (on the ill-fated tour with Deliverance). They are some of the nicest guys you could ever dream of meeting. VERY down-to-earth. Cheers.

    Dale R. Newberry

P.S. Got my ytse-shirt today. WOO HOO!!!!! It is a bit large on me (I got an XL), but that's cool. I like big shirts. Great lookin' T. get one if you haven't already.

    Jammers-

Went to the Portnoy clinic in Rancho Cucamonga last night. Very cool. There were only about 50-60 people so it was quite "intimate." Mike was very starightforward (as some of you already know) and very easy to talk to. He even accepted a copy of my band's demo tape so I expect to get signed within the next couple of weeks (j/k). I appreciated that he didn't blow off my question (about "The Mirror") even if it was apparently over the head of most of the audience there, and I was impressed that he did try to bring everyone else into our short discussion by relating what I was asking about to other parts of his talk. He did, however, keep coming up with 15/16 as a meter for some of the introduction to The Mirror, though that's not exactly right, which was kind of strange. But oh well, my question (which I won't go into here; ask me privately if you're interested) wasn't about any particular time signature.

At this particular clinic, he played "Just Let Me Breathe" and "Lines in the Sand." I guess he's been playing a lot of different new songs at each clinic, but we only got these two. Is JLMB the song people are describing as weird? I thought it definately sounded different, almost Soundgarden-esque in its aggression, but I really liked it. I was most pleased by James' tone, which has a certain edge to it on this song. LITS was also good, although I know James is going to a lot of breathing in the first verse. The new styles that Derek is infusing into the new music are really angst-ridden and, hence, very cool. The version Mike played last night had no vocals, so the song didn't seem like it needed to be 14 minutes long, but I'm sure that will all change with Jimmy-Boy's crooning (gosh, he really is a crooner isn't he? hmmm Interesting thought. I'm talking vocal style not repertoire). Anyway, what else have other people heard? I, for six, am looking forward to the new album much more now (not that I wasn't before, but you know what I mean). Ok, gotta change the laundry (yes it takes me a week to do laundry. I need a maid. Any takers?)

Simple. I went to the post office. I checked on shipping overseas to places where the bulk of the orders are coming from (Australia, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, etc...). The average price to ship the shirts overseas is $9.25. I'm not doing it because I hate you people, I'm doing it because I can't afford *not* to. hi all,

I was watching VH1 ( yep! you read it right ;) > and they were showing this oriental girl playing classical stuff arranged as techno/ dance music with her violin. I thought it was cool. I know they had done the fifth and ninth symphony for disco in the seventy's but this is much better and she can really play! I forgot to catch her name.

Now the thing is ..... one of her first video's is Bachs' Toccata in D minor....for the video, it was how dance videos are mostly, heavily into the " chick" or "sex" thing. The interesting thing was the British went bezerk <sp??> since it was a " classical" piece and you can't add sex to it ( as far as I understood). They labeled it too much provocative. but didn't Queen do " I wanna break free" or Kiss do " Heaven's on fire" way before that?

Some one may point out that it is sacrilage<sp??> or the music. Remember Rainbow's virsion of Beethoven's ninth???? It was awesome. and it still is .at least to me. or the band that did tribute to Metallica. I personally did not like it..( because, the way they arranged it just didn't work for me) ...but if that is the way some body sees it who am I to say anything.

I don't know if it is like this still but we should let the artists do their own work and let ourselves make up our own mind if WE should be a part of it.

Sorry for the non DT thing but I had to let myself out.

    Be cool!

    i'ts weekend :)

Guess what I finally found...(if you're an idiot and can't read the subject heading)...

Well Tower finally got in some Lemur Voice and Altura discs, I got the only Lemur Voice they had in stock and figured I'd pick up Altura later. After 2 or 3 listens I'm definitely impressed. Very European sounding, which might have to do with the fact that they're from Europe. I like it a lot, but I have a few gripes. I can barely understand the vocals, which I think has something to do with the production since I can understand Gregoor fine on Working Man. I haven't been able to get into the two longest songs, but that's usually the way it is with progressive music. Highlights are "Akasha Chronicles" and "Prime of Passion" so far. As far as Magna Carta bands go, this is right up there with Shadow Gallery as my favorite. I definitely like Marcel's soloing style better than Brendt Allman's though, it's very unique and he has a great feel to his rhythms too.

In other news I'll be going to G3 on Oct. 27. PLEASE somebody warn me if you're going to post about the set list before then, since I like it to be a surprise. Enough crap, I'll be going now.
