I had a wonderful day today. :-) until I read the post below :-(

Damn... I was just talking about him earlier today with my friend
about whether Sav would have taken the direction they had if he
hadn't died. I didn't know that today was the day either. "I'm
    feeling kinda spooky..."

In related Sav material, I got Trans-Siberian Orcestra today, it rokz
nadz, and I don't even like Christmas music much. Also, I got
Enchant, Blueprints... Loved it! Do they have anymore? Also got
Magellan, Impending Ascension... Either this one will have to grow
on me or I know someone who really likes Yes alot and will really get
into this. I never really could get into this type of prog much...

That's what I've had to do. I personally enjoyed the Take the Time
tab in Gutar magazine a couple years back. It had the key solos for
"Take the Time" all worked out, too. Too bad there aren't any good
    tabs in those things anymore...

    You should be... :-)

If Dream Theater took a step back with "Awake", I am the pope. You
may not like it, you may say that it's not that progressive and
melodic anymore, but you can't deny that it's a big step forward,

Does it surprise you when I tell you that one of my fellow Dream
Theater fan hates ACOS's guts? No, he's not a die hard metalhead who
hates a song if it clocks over 6 minutes. He just thinks it has
little emotion and lots of prowess in it. He feels that though it's
extremely technical and professionally done, he still hates it. And I
can see why, although I don't necessarily share his opinion.

Maybe those were right who told that there's absolutely no point
arguing which Dream Theater album is the best or whatever. To each
his own. It reminds me of the "best guitarist" poll a little. I can
say I hate "The Killing Hand", and love "Innocence Faded", and it
doesn't make me suck any more. :-)

            Hi ,
Just wanted to know if anybody is going to the G3 concert in
San Antonio , TX on October 18 ? I'm coming from Monterrey , Mexico for the
concert and would like to meet jammers that will be there. If you see me ,
talk to me , I'll be wearing an Ibanez shirt and my DT Acos hat.
On to DTC , I was at my radio show and a local musician came in with
an independent CD about his prog music , it was in the likes of Yes and King
Crimson. Anyways I started to talk a little bit about prog music (my show
isn't about prog unfortunately) when the phone started to ring , I got 5
calls asking for DT. Obviously I accepted putting Mirror/Lie. While talking
to these guys I realized that they had all heard my DT 1 hour special that I
did last month in D-99 (radio station). It made feel good that I have helped
people get into DT's music here in my town in Mexico. Anyways , I'm off to
    Texas to G3 !

YT>The tune 'The Ivory gate Of Dreams' is off the No Exit CD. It runs 21:25
YT>and is presented in eight movements. IMO this album isn't that great for
I was making a tape for the prog swap not too long ago, and IGoD was one
of the tunes I put on there (it was specifically requested, of course).
I enclosed a sheet of paper with titles, album names, track lengths,
etc, and I noticed that even though the liner notes say 21:25, the song
is actually about 22:00 on my CD player. Maybe I have the extended dance
    mix...

New guy (never thought I'd call anyone that) - don't get on D-man's
case - he's been here for a while. This is the friendliest, most
informative list (and IRC channel) I know of. I can only assume he's one of
the people who helped make it that way. Don't take things personally -
just accept (constructive) criticism and try to learn from it if you do
make a mistake (BTW, I'm not saying you DID screw up with your initial
post). I've received about 400 jams and I still feel like a newbie
sometimes - and now I know better than to post an ASCII bird finger just
because someone wants to unsubscribe but doesn't know how to do it. If I
feel the urge to send an email, I'll send the person instructions.

This is a great list. *CLICHE ALERT!!!!* Let's keep it this way.

I love you all (in a brotherly way),

    Well said.

Someone mentioned purchasing a cd in a cardboard cover, which reminded me of Warren Cuccurrullo's solo debut, "Thanks To Frank." It's packaged in a cardboard envelope. For fans of his style, pick it up. It's cool. Hello, ye 'jamanoids of the outer space...

The anagrams are an old thread.

I remember Chung Ng asking if someone's covered any DT songs. Check out Madsword's latest album, there's a cover of The Ytse Jam in there. AFAIK, this is the only recorded DT cover...of course, I could be wrong.

On a totally another note, I would order a YtseJam tee-shirt from Pat Griffin before you can say "Mape's got his head up his ass" were they not so expensive. The shirt itself is fairly priced, but how can the $9 for s&h be explained? Pat, please e-mail me, I would really like to buy one...

Bafu did it again. His pseudo interview with JP maybe isn't quite at the same level as his legendary "Ytse and Jam" tales, but it should be included to the Ytsejam archives' Hall of Fame, right? Bafu, you're one twisted individual...:) Besides: Bafu, we aren't having that most EOJ's competition anymore, so you can stop now...

I know at least one ytsejammer took offense by that post but he takes offense by every single thing anybody ever does so screw it...

Hey. I was the blind umpire in the yankee game, and I just called them the way I saw them. Give us a break. You need to have a special talent to be an umpire. You must not have a driver's license, must not be able to read regular print, and most importantly, you must not be able to see the ball. Come on. Not an easy job to qualify for.

yeah... my band here is once again delving into the DT stuff... more. (just got the new guitarist- who'd not heard dream theater until in my car - hooked on DT by simply showing him the I&W "work in progress" video) we've done Surrounded, Another Day, and Silent Man in years past... currently working on LSOAD and LTL... the faster ones are a little difficult for me to sync vocals and keys, so most of those get seq'd! All our other stuff is original (which many of my DT friends say is original, but definitely influenced by the great ones)...

Hi there. I'm one of The Digital Man's other personalities. I'm also a member of this mailing list who dates back to circa Halloween 1994. Coincidentally, both of me agree with D-man's original self that we have found a few things out the hard way. If you'd like more of Us to come forward and make our presences known, we will do so.

    >> Perhaps we are not the ones who need to grow up. Rather, maybe you > > Again, "we"? I was talking to and about Carlos.

Sounds to me like you just don't want to be one of D-man's alternate personalities.

    > Don't worry, I know how listservs work. I'm on a few, actually. > And as with all lists I've ever seen, there are questions asked. That > is the only way someone can learn, or, in the case of the question I > posted, find out what the general opinions of the people are.

    I agree with this 100%.

    > I have found out, so far, that people here generally stick their noses > in the air to questions asked by newcomers to the list and those who ask > them. Not the most kind welcome, I'd say.

Hey Ed, guess who sent about a dozen Ytsejam #1925s out to people who mentioned that they "hadn't" received them? Guess who's dubbing copies of Mike Portnoy singing the end of "Surrounded" for four people who are interested in hearing it? (hint: two of them are newcomers, so it CAN'T be D-Man 'cause he's an air-sniffing conceited sonuvabitch) Guess who...ah, nevermind...

Time for some random educating. I'll tell you why you've "found" your discovered generality to be true: no one's going to e-mail you privately to outline all the wonderful ways some random person on this list has recently helped them out. Do you expect this information to arrive into your mind without effort? Does any information carry itself that way? (other than air temperature, amount of bodily energy, etc.) If I don't post an answer to someone's question here on this mailing list, does that mean I haven't taken the time to help them out, say, privately?

One question, one answer. I do this because, as one of D-Man's alternate personalities, I agree that the majority of this list doesn't want to know (for example) for the 20th time what number to call to order the Paul Gilbert cd-rom, because this topic has been covered many times. If a dozen people ask all of a sudden, I'll post the info to the list. If one person asks, I'll send them a private e-mail with the number for K-Tel Music.

And that, oh dissatisfied newcomer, is how 90% of D-Man's alternate personalities operate on the Ytsejam. Enjoy.
