And D-man was talking about US. No, he doesn't have multiple
personalities, but I'm sure he appreciates the concern you have and
thanks you for asking. Why is it so hard to grasp the concept; or are
you only concerned with what YOU'RE trying to say and not with what
WE'RE trying to say?
Sometimes the delivery ain't the smoothest but the pitch is still a good
one. If people were perfect all of the time, no one would get upset
about anything and the response would always be correct and not press
anyone's buttons. Learning to allow things to bounce off your shoulders
is where it starts
In all seriousness :), I think D-man was trying to be civil, but you
seemed to be in "Stomp all over Carlos mode" still. And besides, I've
already told you that ACoS is the best already :) Damnit, D-man put the
fucker in the FAQ or I will drive on up to UVM and have your admissions
records seized!!!!

Message-ID: <199610171435.HAA14078@germany.it.earthlink.net>
Hey everybody,
Yes, I did video tape Ytsecon III this past weekend...anyone
who wants one, can have a copy of it. I got probably an hours worth
of stuff, the first half is Rob and Mike playing their acoustic set..
(It was great, btw) The rest of it is just the camera being taken
around the room, filming all the jammers that were there. Some of the
films is a bit shakey, and this is not even close to a professional job.
A friend of mine actually did most of the filming, so that i could mingle.
(there's one part that I didn't even know the damn thing was on....)
Anyway, if anyone wants a copy, all I ask is that you send about 5 bucks,
so that I can cover the cost of the tape, and shipping.....Please send it to:
Ryan Webb
5301-92nd St.
Lubbock, TX 79424
Also include your return address, and please e-mail me to let me know that
you'll be sending a check. Thanks :)
Now, on to my thoughts of the con.....
I had a great time this past weekend....sure, I was a bit dissapointed that
no one from the band showed up, but thats not what it was all about. I
really enjoyed meeting the jammers there, especially the ones that I've
gotten to know really well on irc. Finally got to meet Ibanez, Wisha,
D-man, Augie, Pellaz, Syrinx, Mike Bahr, Jeff Chew, WilsonCat, and a ton of
others I can't think of now...I have never seen so many CD's sold in such a
short amount of time..hehe..by the time I moved from the back of the room,
to where Mike Bahr was selling, most everything was gone...damn, oh
well....After it was all over, Ibanez, Charone, WilsonCat and his g/f,
Zimbob, Emre, and myself all went to downtown Manhatten....that was sure an
experience...it was a nice place to visit and all, but I'm glad as hell I
don't live there..haha..Many thanks go out to Jeff Chew, and his staff for
putting this thing together. I can't even imagine all of the hard work that
went into pulling this off... Thanks again Jeff :)
I can't wait till the next con...for all you that didn't make it, I would
strongly recommend trying to make it to the next one, wether DT is gonna
show or not, it's a lot of fun...Oh, and the ytsejam T-shirts by Gabbo,
those are great!!!! If he still has any left, ya'll should order them, you
won't be dissapointed!! well shit, this is getting long....
now onto G3
I'll be going to the G3 show this Sunday (oct. 20th) in Dallas Texas..
Anyone else going to this one?? I'll be wearing my new Ytsejam T-shirt
(thanks Pat)...and I'll be most likely right up front, (since this is a
general admission show) I can't wait for this....from what everyone else
has been saying, it looks like one awesome concert.. Is Sheperd boy still
opening?? or was that just for the first few shows?? Oh, and Saturday
morning, I'll be going to a guitar showcase, and Satch and EJ are supposed
to be there...it'll be cool :)
one more thing..hehe
I'll also be going to the Mike Portnoy clinic in Dallas on Nov. 9th...any one
else going? again, I'll be wearing the same ytsejam shirt(yes, I'll wash
it), and will most likely video tape the clinic also. can't wait to hear
some of the new material :) (I'll also copy this one for anyone that wants
the tape:)
Ok...finally, I'm done
later everybody!!

Hi all
the straps on my strait jacket have been loosened for a couple of minutes to
allow me to pass on two CD tips for those of you who, like myself, like some
of the darker and more melancholy music that is around:
MY DYING BRIDE - Like Gods Of The Sun
The long-awaited follow-up to their successful album 'The Angel And The Dark
River'. The wait was well worth it. The music is heavy, dark and almost
threatening, backed up by some good drumming and symphonic keyboards, plus of
course, the mourning violin. The vocals are cleaner and clearer than in the
past, too. Look out for the tracks 'A Kiss To Remember' and 'For My Fallen
Angel'.
ELEND - Les Tenebres Du Dehors
This band continues where The 3rd And The Mortal or Theatre Of Tragedy stop.
No guitars, no drums, just keyboards, violins, 2 sopranos and screams. It's
almost impossible to pigeon-hole this music: gothic/classical/doom/new age/
simply beautiful. Very sad and almost tragic, very expressive and emotional.
This album is a must for anybody who likes to get goose pimples even when the
central heating is turned full up. Warning: if you're feeling suicidal, playing
this album could just possibly cause you to jump... Those two sopranos are
just amazing though. Also good if any of you school kids want to brush up on
your Latin.
Obligatory mininal Dream Theater content: Dream Theater is *not* an anagram
of Majesty.
Obligatory cocktail receipe with mininal Dream Theater content. The Ytsedypso
proudly presents:
LONG ISLAND ICED TEA (well, the band come from Long Island, don't they?)
1/2 measure vodka
1/2 measure gin
1/2 measure white rum
1/2 meaure tequila
1/2 measure triple sec
dash of coke (the liquid sort, certainly not the white powdery stuff)
Pour the spirits into a tall glass and add coke to fill. Enjoy carefully.
Consult your physician before drinking a second one.
Time to put the jacket back on, I think. There's a big pink elephant outside
trying to sell me a Blind Melon album.
stay safe and happy listening

You're absolutely right. I was thinking more of the releasure time.
Didn't they spend time re-working parts? For me, every aspect got better
with that release, especially the sound production.

Coupla things....
Dan's the resident Galactic Cowboys expert, so I do this with some
trepidation, but I think I'd disagree with the notion that "Machine Fish" is
more "laid back" than the first two albums. I'd say it's a more aggressive,
noisier record. Not bad, but I don't relate to it in the same way.
I DO agree with the "Space In Your Face" assessment. It's their best, I'd
say, and "Still Life Of Peace" is wonderful. I'd rank the four this way:
1. Space In Your Face
2. Galactic Cowboys
3. Machine Fish
4. Feel The Rage
..they're all outstanding, though.
Damn....don't remember the other thing. I'm sure I'll remember later.

The Nickster has a few replies to make:
>I'll share my meaningless opinion on this, since no one else will. I&W is
>what got me started on DT, so it has that "something special" about it. I
>love every tune on that album, and it's a good thing it's on CD otherwise
>I'd have picked up several (analog) copies to replace the ones that I
>wore
>out. As for ACOS, the tune itself might be my favorite DT tune of all
>time,
>but I'm a little bored with the covers. Sure, I still dig listening to
>the
>covers, but lately I find myself playing the ACOS disc just for ACOS,
>then
>putting something else on.
ACoS is bitchin', and please realize that even if you're putting that disc
in just for track one, you're listening to DT for 23 minutes... And
listen to the covers with a different ear each time. You'll hear things
that you didn't hear before.
>> However, my real forte' is the keyboards... does ANYONE know of any
>> transcripts (either in songbook form, or just put together and on the

>Me, too, It took me a longass time just trying to figure out how to
>play Wait for Sleep. I have a friend with a program that can scan
>midis and make Sheet music out of 'em, but I don't know how good it
>is.
If you guys need Keyboard or guitar transcripts, I'm pretty good at
transcription... I'm not at Berklee or anything, but I am a music student
and I can use the practice... Just remember that I may take a while, cuz
homework comes first, and 32nd notes are really dense.
>Welcome to the 'jam, Nick. But I have to give
>you your first flame. That's like sacralige, dude. Don't steal from DT.
Don't flame me yet, friend-- Like I said, I got caught, and then years
later, my truck got broken into, and most of my CD collection was
stolen... About $900 worth including all of my DT CD's save Awake. So I
think karma caught up with me.
>If my memory serves me correctly ACOS was written (at least the original
>arrangement) in the late 80s-early 90s. In fact it was going to be on
>Images and Words but was dropped. This being the case does it mean that
>Dream Theater took a step back with Awake? I guess I will be hunted
>down.
>
>Richard Warren
>rwarren@memphisonline.com
Richard-- your memory serves you correctly, but (!) ACoS was given a major
rewrite, (lyrics, movements, and a lot of stuff for the SevenString)
before it was recorded again. So you won't be hunted down... It just
goes to show that a LITTLE bit of info can change a whole lot of
knowledge.

Okay, it's been awhile so I have many questions......
1. I heard a rumor that Portnoy said at a clinic that Metropolis
part 2 is done. Is it true, and if it is will it be on their next album?
2. Whoa! The track listing for their next album seems to be 90+ minutes.
what do you think, do you think we can convince them to go ahead and
make it a 2-CD set (A dream come true!!) or do you think they'll cut out
some
of the music?
3. What's up with Kevin? Is he joining Fates? I don't know how I feel
about
that. The only fates album I have is Parallels and I'm pretty well
ambivalent towards
it. Is there a better FW album some one can recommend to me?
4. Is the ChromaKey Tape still available?
5. What's the rumor about this 60 minute long FW song? And which album
has "Ivory Gates of Heaven" on it?
Thanx guys!

I totally agree with Rick in that Awake sounds more "mature" than
I&W. DT seems to have a more developed sound, in a sense more
professional sounding. I'm not knocking I&W because I love that album
(especially Metropolis), but Awake sounds more like the sound DT has
been working for. WDADU, on the other hand, is pretty crappy. The only
songs worth listening to are YTSE, Fortune in Lies, and maybe The
Killing Hand. The rest sound pretty cheesy. It's a really bad recording,
the vocals suck, and the distortion just doesn't have the same punch as
their more recent albums. Well, anyway, that's just my opinion.
P.S. - Has anybody saw the Yngwie Malmsteen concert? I'm going to see
him this Friday in Orlando.

** Well, the sales at YtseCon III went fairly well, thank you to everyone
** who bought a shirt. I've sold something like 70 shirts in all, which
** is a good start. I'm hoping that orders will pick up again soon, now
** that the Con has come and gone and things have calmed down a bit.
** I have the shirts in my possession now, they are sitting in three big
** boxes that take up too much space in my tiny dorm room. :) They all
** came out exceptionally well, better than I expected, in fact. Process
** jobs (printing color graphics one color at a time) are notorious for
** severely distorting the graphic, but in this case, it came out very
** true to the original.
** The shirts were premiered at the Con this past weekend, and everyone I
** talked to seems very happy with them. When I get the chance, I'll try
** to lift all the comments I have gotten on them and stick them on the
** Ytsejam Shirt web page.
** The first set of mail orders was shipped out yesterday. A total of 15
** orders were filled, including one airmail to Australia. Three orders
** were not filled because of sucky banking laws in Missouri (I can't cash
** a check in Columbia, because my savings account is in St. Louis!), but
** I've already taken steps to fix that situation, and those orders will
** ship out next Wednesday.
=======
Details
=======
The Ytsejam shirts are two sided prints. The front of the shirt features
a *full color* raytraced graphic from Chris Hailey in Washington. The
graphic is a beautifully done scene with the Majesty logo floating behind
a group of marble columns on a tile floor with a wide view of space
visible behind.
The back of the shirt is in a solid light blue color. The majority
of the design is a huge Majesty logo, framed by the Dream Theater title
at the top, the mailing list address on the sides and "Ytsejam" at the
bottom. Below that is "Internet Mailing List" between two more Majesty
logos.
** The current lot of shirts is 217 (they printed up more than I asked
** for, but I'm not complaining). If those run out, and demand is high
** enough, I may run another with a slightly different design.
You can check out all of the details, as well as a preview of the shirts at:
http://www.cclabs.missouri.edu/~c675311/ytsejam/
Please note: Due to some legal issues, the University will no longer allow
me to keep this commercial advertisement on their server. To sidestep this

=======
Pricing
=======
The cost of the shirts is $16 each. The shirt is damn close to concert
quality, so $16 is a steal (last Dream Theater concert I was at charged
$23 for a shirt!). If you require a size larger than XL, please let me
know ASAP so I can get those orders in. There is an additional $1 charge
for each size increase (ie. XXL = $17). If you are picking the shirt up
from me directly the $16 price stands. If you can't get the shirt in
person, you can order one through the mail for $20 to cover shipping.
I spoke with the people at the post office and I've decided to set the
shipping prices outside the USA at $9, for a total of $25. I realize
this is damn expensive for a tshirt, and I'm sorry. If individual prices
are signifigantly less expensive, I will gladly return a check for the
balance.
The rundown:
M, L or XL shirt, picked up: $16
M, L or XL shirt, mailed in the US: $20
M, L or XL shirt, mailed outside the US: $25
XXL add $1
XXXL add $2

Ordering
========
** The shirts are open to mail ordering now. Mail orders will be shipped
** out every Wednesday via Priority Mail for US orders, and airmail for
** all others. Checks and money orders will be cashed before the order goes
** out, most likely on Monday. So far, mail orders have gone well, the only
** problem I have had has been with the bank, not the post office, so don't
** worry about your orders. All US orders are insured for the amount paid
** for the shirts and shipping, and insurance on airmail depends on the
** country and other aspects.
To order, send a check or money order for the proper US dollar amount (see
pricing above) to:
Pat Griffin
573A Hudson Hall
1202 E. Rollins St.
Columbia, MO 65201
Make them payable to Pat Griffin, and remember this in US dollars.
Be sure to include:
Your name.
Email address.
Mailing address.
Phone number.
Quantity of shirts you want to order.
The size of each.
Whether this order is for pickup for mail order.
I will keep you up to date on the status of the shirts through email.
