    DOS BEER

Requires you to use a can opener and to read the instructions before
opening the can. Originally only came in an 8-oz can, but now comes
in a 16-oz can. However, the can is divided into 8 compartments of
2 oz each which have to be accessed separately. Soon to be discountinued,
although a lot of people are going to keep drinking it after its no
    longer available.

    MAC BEER

First came only in a 16 oz can, but now in a 32 oz can. Considered
by many to be a "light beer," Mac Beer has a real kick after you get
into it. Once you've drunk a few Mac Beers, you discover that it is
very smooth and easy. All the cans look identical. When you take one
can from the fridge, it opens itself. The ingredients list is not on
the can. When you call to ask about the ingredients, you are told
you don't need to know. A notice on the side reminds you to drag
    your empties to the trashcan.

    WINDOWS 3.1 BEER

The worlds most popular. Comes in a 16 oz can that looks a lot like
Mac Beer. Requires that you already own a DOS Beer. Claims that it
allows you to drink several DOS Beers simultaneously, but in reality
you can only drink a few of them, very slowly, especially slowly if
you are drinking the Windows Beer at the same time. Sometimes, for
apparently no reason, a can of Windows Beer will explode when you
    open it.

    OS/2 BEER

Comes in a 32-oz can. Does allow you to drink several DOS Beers
simultaneously. Allows you to drink Windows 3.1 Beer simultaneously
too, but somewhat slower. Advertises that its cans won't explode when
you open them, even if you shake them up. The manufacturer
(International Beer Manufacturing) claims that 9 million six-packs
have sold, but you never really see anyone drinking OS/2 Beer.

    WINDOWS '95 BEER

Long before you could buy it a lot of people taste-tested it and
claimed its wonderful. For over a year they claimed this. The can
looks and feels a lot like Mac Beer cans, but tastes more like
Windows 3.1 Beer. It comes in 32-oz cans, but when you look inside,
the cans only have 16-oz of beer in them. Most people will probably
keep drinking Windows 3.1 Beer until their friends try Windows '95
Beer and say they like it. Even though the manufacturer (a Micro-
Brewery) claims that this is an entirely new brew, the ingredients
list shows some of the same ingredients that are in DOS Beer.

    WINDOWS NT BEER

Comes in a 32-oz cans, but you can only buy it by the truckload.
This causes most people to go out and buy bigger refrigerators.
The can looks just like Windows 3.1 Beers, but the company promises
to change the can to look just like Windows '95 Beer-after Windows
'95 Beer starts shipping. Touted as an "industrial strength" beer,
and suggested for use in bars.

    UNIX BEER

Comes in several brands ranging from 8 oz to 64 oz. Drinkers of Unix
Beer display fierce brand loyalty, even though they claim that all
the different brands taste almost identical. Sometimes the pop-tops
break off when you try to open them, so you have to have your own
can opener around for those occasions, in which you either need a
complete set of instructions or a friend who has been drinking UNIX
Beer for several years. The makers seem to love eating popcorn on the
job because every can has at least one kernel in it. Its almost
impossible to enjoy UNIX Beer until you master the VI dispenser
which is maddeningly unlike any other beer dispenser, but loyalists
insist once you get the hang of it you can drink a lot faster.

    AMIGA/DOS BEER

The company has since gone out of business but the recipe has been
picked up by some weird German company, so now this beer will be an
import. This beer never really sold very well because the original
manufacturer didn't understand marketing. Like UNIX Beer, AmigaDOS
Beer fans are an extremely loyal and loud group. It originally came
in a 16 oz can, but now comes in 32 oz cans too. When this can was
originally introduced, it appeared flashy and colourful, but the
design hasn't changed much over the years, so it appears dated now.
Critics of this beer claim that it is only meant for watching TV anyway.

    >more than IAW, and was told, basically, to shut up. I don't appreciate
    >that.

I'll share my meaningless opinion on this, since no one else will. I&W is
what got me started on DT, so it has that "something special" about it. I
love every tune on that album, and it's a good thing it's on CD otherwise
I'd have picked up several (analog) copies to replace the ones that I wore
out. As for ACOS, the tune itself might be my favorite DT tune of all time,
but I'm a little bored with the covers. Sure, I still dig listening to the
covers, but lately I find myself playing the ACOS disc just for ACOS, then
putting something else on. So for that reason, I'd have to say I&W is my
prefered choice. But a comparison of the two, as was mentioned before, is
not really fair, since ACOS is an EP. And I thank the powers-that-be for
releasing ACOS, otherwise I'd have lost my mind not having a new DT fix.

But on another note, probably contrary to many Jammers' opinions, I think I
like Awake a bit more than I&W. With the exception of CiaW and IF, that
album is so amazingly 'nad rockin', as a fellow Jammer puts it, I just can't
understand why its reviews are as weak as they are. There's just something
about the style of the songwriting that is more........mature, maybe? I
don't know. Maybe I'm off. There's just +something+ that really gives me a kick.

This response was for Ed, and all the silent Jammers too scared to ask
simple questions like this, for fear that they'll find themselves swimming
    in a lake of fire.

    Now Playing: DT, "InstruMENTAL"

Me, too, It took me a longass time just trying to figure out how to
play Wait for Sleep. I have a friend with a program that can scan
midis and make Sheet music out of 'em, but I don't know how good it
is. Anyone else have any midis recorded, i.e. Eve, Surrounded,
Another Day? These are the ones that I have begun to learn, but just
can't "Take the Time" to finish them.

That's like sacralige, dude. Don't steal from DT. I'm actually the
kind of person who wishes he could buy every album he sees of theirs
and give them to deserving people like a musical Robin Hood. I was
pissed when I saw an I&W and an Awake in the used bins at a local
music store today, so I put them in front for everyone to see them.
I've still got to get them to correct their Dream Theatre divider. What pudz!

I haven't had a chance to catch up on all the Jams from right before
or after the weekend yet, so I haven't read any of the post-con
reports. Just a few quickie comments:

Had a GREAT time meeting those of you I had already met and meeting
many new and cool faces. I'll write up a longer summary later for my
page, but it was worth the journey just to see everyone. As for the
band not showing, hey.... In a way I'm relieved; I can't imagine the
con being quite as laid-back and casual with royalty present. :)

Special hi's and greets to Mike Bahr, Tim "Beer" Spear, Chris Oates,
Pat and Irene (great to meet you after months of IRC), Ryan Webb
(ditto, and I want a copy of the vid :)), Johnny Motown ( expect email
or something soon), D-Man, Ibanez and Syrinx, Wisha, and of course kudos to
the Chews for arranging the whole thing. And a special thanks to
Heath/Augie and family for a pleasant stay in Bellmore. Damn, I know
I'm forgetting some cool folks, too.

For those who were keeping track of my travel woes, I had some delays
and problems getting to Augie's on Sunday (seems the Long Island
Railroad employs misinformation specialists in its information kiosks
:)), and I made an unplanned sojourn to Mineola on the wrong
train..... I love trains, but not all day. :)

--Monday's return flights on Continental were smooth as silk, though.
Mike Bahr, I hope you got to play around with the inflight video games
and such, 'cause I didn't get a plane with those doohickies on the
    return trip. :(

To everyone who couldn't make it, we missed ya. We'll see you next
    time, though. :)

    Hello all,

Well, it was great meeting everyone in NYC :) The con was really great, I had the time of my life :D

Everyone I met and hung out with there was great! Had a blast after the con too, going to Long Island and then the laser tag, even though I got a -2400, it was still fun :D

Coming back from that was the only bad part, I didn't feel too well and by the time I got back to the hotel, I just thought I was dying. (no John, it wasn't the driving at all :) About that, I do appologise to everyone that was there at the hotel that I kind of just took off to my room without saying much. I know that was kind of rude, I just really didn't feel well. I came back down later, but most everyone was gone. Ended up hanging out with Mike Bahr and Paul Cashman for a while. That was great, even though I was still kind of out of it. Sorry guys :(

Got to hang out with Rachel (Wisha) some more Sunday morning which was cool too :D It was really fun, and again, thanks for the bagels Rachel :)

It is too bad that none of the band members showed up, but I did go there figuring they wouldn't show. I still think it would've been nice if they had even if just for an hour or so. After all, we had one person there that came all the way from England for the con. I really don't know of any other band that has such dedicated fans that would travel miles and spend so much hard earned cash to do so. So, I was disappointed about that. But, it was the people there that made the con what it was :) I will be at the next con, band or not, I just want to hang out with everyone again :D

Once again, I had a great time, thanks to everyone involved in setting this up, thank you to everyone who provided transportation around, etc. I'll never forget you or that weekend :) Talk to you all soon :) Bye.

    Irene

Someone asked about Ranjit. I haven't dealt with him lately, but he was always prompt with my prog orders except once, when he was out of the country or something. I've gotten several nice raritiies from him including LIVE UNDERSLUNKY from Ozric Tentacles -- yum!

No, Mike B., it wasn't me who snagged a beta (or an alpha) of PT. More's the pity.... heh

BTW, the CD sounded great and Pat's shirts are excellent. If you haven't gotten a shirt yet, get one before they're gone, kidz!

Okay, folks... I'm taking a break from my homework tonight and I find an anagram generator on the Web. I plug in a few names and words and here's what I got:

(For those of you who don't know what an anagram is, it involves taking all the letters in a word or phrase, and rearranging them into a set of different words. You'll understand...)

Dream Theater: tame red heart ream that deer red meat hater mere ad threat

Mike Portnoy: pork in my toe perky motion monkey to rip

John Petrucci: conjure pitch (I thought this was appropriate :)

    Kevin Moore: evoke minor

Derek Sherinian: naked in here, sir sneak her ride in

    James LaBrie: james be liar

Charlie Dominici: rich mice aid lion hoard mini icicle

And, just for grins & giggles, I plugged in a few YtseJammers names also. Here are the startling results:

SubtleRage: slug beater glue breast eagle burst

    Ryan Skadberg: drink, yes, brag

    Chris Merlo: rich morsel

    Paul Cashman: human pascal

Elliott Kim: toilet milk to kill time

Ben Laussade: usable sedan sensual bead bald anus, see?

and, finally, I had to plug in my own name...

Matthew Schnoor: oh, stretch woman then smooch wart

and, as Matt Schnoor: torn stomach

Okay, I've wasted enough time already. If you want to generate your own anagrams, point your web browser to http://csugrad.cs.vt.edu/~eburke/anagrams.html and have fun.

    Heeeeello.

I just wanted to add a little list of my favorite bands right at this moment. The list is NOT so reliable in the matter of bands places in it. Anyway here it is:

1: Savatage (Check their homepage at: www.winternet.com/savaweb) 2: Dream Theater (well....It was a close finnish) 3: Psychotic Waltz (You must buy their latest CD, "Bleeding") 4: Fates Warning (When4s the darned album coming out???) 5: Queensryche (How about them guys!!)

The list might be changing depending on new releases. If you want to check out how the new list are coming, you4ll have to WAIT.

All of you who are a Savatage or Psychotic Waltz fan, let me know huh!?

See ya!!!!! Ps. We got a new CD coming out before the end of the year: Ds.

If my memory serves me correctly ACOS was written (at least the original arrangement) in the late 80s-early 90s. In fact it was going to be on Images and Words but was dropped. This being the case does it mean that Dream Theater took a step back with Awake? I guess I will be hunted down.

Yeah, it may be a great track but getting to that track and the other hidden track sucks big time... That cd is so annoying!

I'd rank GC 1. GC 2. Space in your face 3. Feel the Rage 4. MF

I am glad that Merlo has found someone else to argue with :)

And to the person promoting Clinton: ARE YOU NUTS????

I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen a DT cover band or heard someone covering a DT song. I was at a wedding where they had a rock band and the guitar player said that they knew "Another Day" and "Lie"...couldn't play it though cause they had a set list from the bride and groom.

PS - At the NY Rangers game, they played a 20-second DT clip during one of the stoppages...COOL!
