Is it true that this place has a mailing list, or a e-mail list? I thought
I caught from the latest Jam. If anyone has any information, could you send
    it to me?? Thanks!!

Yeah, I've heard of them...as well as some other 'Jammers.

They have three major releases out, plus one indie self-titled release.

The three major releases are Saviour Machine, Saviour Machine II, and Live
in Deutchland (sp?). The first two are available on Intense Records, and
Mammoth Records (I think). The third one, I'm not sure what label (I don't
    have it).

They are a California band, and they have gotten a lot of support from
German tours. They are really good. I love 'em!! They're not like DT,
but they are definitely progressive. Very dark, moody, and gothic. Eric
Clayton has an excellent voice, and his lyrics are full of imagery. Many
religious views in the lyrics, but quite unorthodox. They *were*
predominantly sold within the CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) on
Intense/Frontline Records, but due to controversy over lyrical content and
theatrical events the CBA recalled the debut album.

Currently they are looking for a mainstream label, if not already on one.
They are writing and preparing a 3-disc trilogy, and the first CD is due
out in Jan/Feb '97...but deadlines are meant to be broken.

    Later,

There other stuff is great. Machine Fish is their most "laid-back,"
though. There first two were produced by Sam Taylor (of King's X and
Atomic Opera fame). Machine Fish and their newest Feel The Rage (EP) were
produced by their drummer Alan Doss.

Of all of their albums, I'd rank 'em as such (IMO):
    1. Space In Your Face
    2. Machine Fish
    3. Galactic Cowboys

All three albums and the EP are great. SIYF has the most progressive stuff
on it (especially track #32, "Still Life Of Peace"). They do a lot with
4-part harmonies, which makes me think of KX or AiC. If you like Machine
Fish, it's a safe bet to say that you'd like there others. The s/t and
SIYF are on Geffen Goldline, which means about $8 for a BRAND NEW CD!!!
The Feel The Rage EP just came out on Oct 8th, and it should be around $10.
It's got 1 new GC song, plus 2 covers, and 2 live tracks.

Also, you can check the URL in my sig for more info on GC. I'd like to
think of it as a fairly comprehensive GC site... :)

Monday, October 21st, 1996!!!! That's next Monday, folks.

The Galactic Cowboys (at least 3 of them) are going to be on a special AOL
thing called "The Nightclub." They will be there to talk and field
questions from any GC fans (or just people who are curious about GC).

It starts at 10pm EST. Go to keyword "Nightclub" to get there. I'm going
to be using a friend's account to get on there... :)

So, I guess this is a formal invitation to any GC fans. Find somebody who
has AOL, or find one of those AOL disks that you threw away last week.
Come out and join the fun!!

Yes, but you *knew* before you posted that someone would get agitated at
the rehashing of old threads. You said so yourself.

You mentioned something to the effect of (and I paraphrase)
    "long-subscribed elitists," and I speak as a long-subscribed member,
representing the majority of the group.

BTW, just to clarify, you were not told to shut up. I recommended that
you take your opinion poll to private e-mail, as your welcome letter stated.

    Oh, well, that's ok then.

    >
    > Again, "we"? I was talking to and about Carlos.

And I'm standing up for Carlos, because he's a fellow Ytsejammer, and I
really don't appreciate anyone, especially newly-certified Ytsejam
veterans, slagging people who have dissenting opinions.

    > Don't worry, I know how listservs work. I'm on a few, actually.

Oh, good, this will make everything a lot simpler.

    > And as with all lists I've ever seen, there are questions asked. That is
    > the only way someone can learn, or, in the case of the question I posted,

    > so far, that people here generally stick their noses in the air to

    > most kind welcome, I'd say.

First of all, that's not true. Secondly, the accepted and preferable way
of finding out other people's general opinions is to hold an e-mail
    opinion poll.

And, finally, I don't afford kind welcomes to newcomers (sorry,
newly-certified Ytsejam veterans) who storm upon the list with
belligerence and insults, and expect the norms and the customs of the
list to bend around their wishes.

I know that it would be easy for someone to take all this the wrong way,
so allow me to clarify my feelings, lest I be wrongly accused of
something. I relish new thoughts and ideas. I take pride in the growth
of this list. I'm happy new people keep joining, and I look forward to
everyone's input (yes, even yours). But we Ytsejammers have been at this
a while, and we know what works and what doesn't. Please have the
courtesy to accept the fruits of our trials and errors and make the list
easier for everyone to read. Share with us! But please try to do so in
a format that will benefit everyone.

BTW, if anyone thinks I'm out of line here, let me know, but I feel
reasonably sure that these thoughts represent the majority of us
    less-recently-certified Ytsejam veterans.

This is my first day on the jam, and I want to tell all you guys that I
think that it is the coolest thing since .051 guage e strings. I've been
a DT fan since about six months before I&W came out, and I actually got
arrested for trying to five finger discount the cd when I was hard up for
the cash. But that was when I was under age. (sigh)
I've been a faithful listener, and student for that matter, ever since.
Rocktron effect users: I have patches for the Piranha& Intellifex Ltd.
that are carbon copies of his ytsejam, J. Petrucci, Esq. If you want the
settings, get ahold of me on the jam.
Southern CA musicians: I'm a 20 year old music student looking for a
progressive recording project, I play guitar or bass, so i need either a
guitarist, or a bassist, as well as a drummer, keysurfboardist and vox.

well, i'm gonna jump in on this one in D-Man's defense... you asked
a question that has in the past, and will once again, start a big
arguement over which DT album is better than that, etc. which is a
pointless arguement, because (i hope anyway) what everyone knows is
that tastes are a matter of opinion, etc etc etc.... you'd have
to be blind to see that your question wouldn't start an arguement...
but to give the benefit of the doubt, D-Man politely explained this
to you. i can't understand what you're upset about now. YOU are the
one that told someone they had their head up their ass. he was
simply trying to avoid a pointless discussion. besides, you asked
which album was better, not which one people happened to prefer.
    there's a difference.

    > Don't worry, I know how listservs work. I'm on a few, actually.

the only attitude in this case is coming from your end of the net...
perhaps a better approach would have been to avoid throwing out an
unnecessary insult at someone who was simply trying to convey a very
good point to you. i mean, if you want to have a vote to see which
DT album is the fav amoung people here, do what is asked of you in
the initial subscription email and have people mail you directly.
that kind of thing just stirs up flame wars and such, which you
should be well aware of if you're on other mailing lists.

as far as "people here generally stick their noses in the air to
questions asked by newcomers"... there are so many questions asked on this
list that are answered in the FAQ. ya know, the little thingy
explained in the subscription email. don't blame the people here if
they get tired of other people asking questions that they could've answered
themselves. sure, this list may be the 1st for someone, and they may
not know what a FAQ is, but that's not the case every time.

I hate it that he doesn't even identify himself. I'd mail bomb him. I
don't hear any grunge on it, I'd say that overall it's a heavier album than
I&W, there aren't ANY bad songs on it, and JP's solos are VERY inspired. I
don't know what this guy's talking about. Does anybody know his email
    address?

I always prounced yngwie like eeng-vee where the eeng rhymes with swing,

    Speaking of tabs and such...

Now I've seen guitar tabs around the web, and enjoyed learning to play
some of the DT stuff through those on guitar,

However, my real forte' is the keyboards... does ANYONE know of any
transcripts (either in songbook form, or just put together and on the web)
of the keyboard parts for any DT stuff (especially I&W or Awake)?

howdy, kids. just a few pointers to exercise.

i'm watching the presidental debate as we speak, and i gotta say
that clinton is clearly the better guy. have you noticed that clinton
has said a few good things about dole, and dole has been on the attack
all evening. as of now, i'm voting for clinton, and i'm doing so for one
reason: i _AM_ better off than i was four years ago. :)

just a reminder to the newer ytsejammers: if you want copies of
Kevin Moore's "Music Meant To Be Heard" demos, please e-mail me. i _DO_
ship worldwide (hell, right now i'm taping it for Mathew Kosuy, who lives
in Singapore). i _DO_ give liner notes (not lyrics, mind you, but i do
give the info about who's on the tape), so e-mail me if you want it.

i'm not gonna go into detail about the con, but i'll say a few things:

1: yes, me and gabbo/irene "kissed and made up." once they
noticed i _WAS_ kidding, it was cool. you can call off the tape tree
    now. :)

2: it was good to see alot of you, since i haven't seen many of
you since Birch Hill. To those who i know rather well: D-Man, Augie,
Mike Bahr, Wisha, Jeff Chew, Mojo, etc, etc, etc - it was great seeing
you. to those of you who i forgot, send all hate mail to
    d-man@dreamt.org. :)

3: i hope you liked Rob and i performing. We rehearsed quite a
few times for the big day, and i hope you liked it. next time we'll do
electric, and if we do, then you'll actually get to hear me sing better.
i do better when i can get my full voice out.

hmm. time to go back to the presidental debate.

being that i am probably one of the kevin mooreophiles on this jam, i just
wanted to take the time to respond to some things.

a "fucking idiot"?!?!?! you've GOT to be kidding me.

    > I think Kevin is a Fucking Idiot! (sorry, Bafu, kicks are for Trids). He
    > left one of the greatest bands of all time because he thought he could do
    > better solo. Wrong! The failures far outweigh the exceptions. Even Sting
    > isn't as talented as he thought he was without The Policeman.

let's just quickly dissect this choice piece of literature:
"fucking idiot" i won't bother with.

"leaving one of the greatest bands, yadda-yadda-yadda"
first of all, in love dt as much as the next jammer on the list, but the
greatest band of all time? sorry, but you're pushing it. i could go on
forever about why they aren't the greatest band of all time, or what it
takes, but that would be silly now.

and because he thought he could do better solo?
this part was actually the one that made me laugh the most. of course, you
(whoever you are) have reason to think as such- i mean, some of the bands out
there, as we all know, have us scratching our heads as to why they're so
popular. but somehow, i doubt that was kev's reason for leaving. i actually
had a rather fascinating theory about why i thought he left, but that's silly
now. whatever the reason was for him leaving one of the "greatest bands of
all time", it wasn't fame or money or whatever. i'm sure dave matthews would
have asked him to sit in with his band if that were the case. jeez!

"even sting wasn't as talented when he...."
as i'm kinda disappointed in the latest material i've heard from him, i'm
almost inclined to agree that, but although the police were huge (one of the
greatest bands of all time? just kidding), and talented, i think mr. sting's
done an admirable job of keeping an adequate level of success. wouldn't you
    think so?

and i mean, he ain't that bad a bassist. his songs aren't THAT bad (i
actually LOVE soul cages), and i mean the people he's played with as a
    soloist. a sampling:

omar hakim, manu katche (monster boy), vinnie colaiuta, branford, david
sancious, kenny kirkland......i mean, they're TALENTED. playing with beasts
like that (and they ARE beasts- kinda like having that fantasy bball team on
espnet comprised of patrick ewing, dennis rodman, anthony mason, shawn kemp,
and barkley, or the entire new york rangers lineup) would have to keep you
talented (i'd sure as hell be practicing my chops off if i had a playing date
with one of them, and i'd see to it that i wrote some good music).

ok, enough, i'm sick of even looking at that post. arrgh.

anton max, your response was a lot better than mine. thank you.

    rambling on and on.....

interesting snippet- i was watching the rangers on espn, and during a
timeout, i know this has been discussed before- the organist playing some
cool things like "roundabout" and "karn evil 9". well, add another one-
tonight's offering was "peaches en regalia". how 'bout that??

    alright. later boys and girls.

ps- plotkin- email me- lost your address.

    > Oh apparently you didn't see my other two or three or so posts.
    >That wasn't my introduction note. Glad to see The Digital Man is paying
    >attention.

    You're being a dick.

    >at the subject header, or scanning the message. If it doesn't have
    >content of interest to you, SKIP IT.

You're not listening AND being a dick. He said NOTHING WAS GAINED by these
posts and only arguements erupted. He's looking out for the jam's best
    interests. You're being a dick.

    > "We say so"? Do you have multiple-personality disorder? I wasn't
    >looking for an argument, I was looking to see how many people liked ACOS
    >more than IAW, and was told, basically, to shut up. I don't appreciate
    >that.

You're being a dick, not listening, and putting words in people's mouths.
Further, WE refers to Carlos, and D-Man. That's a plural... a legitimate
"We". You may add me to that group. You're being a dick.

    >>Now, as for personal insults against other list subscribers who
    >>disagree
    >>with you on things, well that's just juvenile, and it has no place
    >>here.
    > Actually, he never said he disagreed with me, he just told me to
    >>take my question elsewhere.

You're being a dick, not listening, putting words into people's mouths, and
missing the point that NO ONE was INSULTING YOU! We're DT Fans. We're a
creative bunch. We do not fail to create insulting posts when required...
and we do not beat around the bush. He made a suggestion. You're being a dick.

    >>Perhaps we are not the ones who need to grow up. Rather, maybe you
    >Again, "we"? I was talking to and about Carlos.

Do I really need to say it? You're being a dick. You posted to the whole
FUCKING JAM. Not to Carlos. You're no longer talking just to Carlos.
    You're being a dick.

    >>should gain a better appreciation of how this list works before trying

    > Don't worry, I know how listservs work. I'm on a few, actually.
    >And as with all lists I've ever seen, there are questions asked. That is
    >the only way someone can learn, or, in the case of the question I posted,
    >find out what the general opinions of the people are. I have found out,
    >so far, that people here generally stick their noses in the air to
    >questions asked by newcomers to the list and those who ask them. Not the
    >most kind welcome, I'd say.

The question you asked is in the form of a poll. The rules of the list say
polls should be done in private email. It's legitimate to post your
question. But you should have asked for the response in private e mail. You
know how "Listservs" work (we're impressed). We actually like newcomers.
We DON'T like people coming out of nowhere and insulting our friends.
You're cutting yourself off from a lot of cool people because: You're being
    a dick.
