Thoughts:
1. Mike Bahr's CDs sold quicker than Rush tix did!!! (BTW: My seats
for the Fleet Center Show in Boston is Section 6 (Floor), Row 15,
Seats 3-10. (Did You did that info. D-Man?)
2. I agree with Pat about play Laser tag with Jeff Chow. When he was
in 'spy mode', he was shooting everyone on his team! He was like a
chicken with his head cut off! :)
3. Great Job to Mike Ostrich & Rob Barker on their live Performance.
4. We got to hear the new 'Precious Things' CD!!!!
5. Got the lastest tip from Mike Bahr's on why to join the DT Fan Club!
DO IT or YOU'LL BE SORRY!
6. The expensive Hotel rooms (with a shoe buffer!), $1.25 soda machines,
and computized check outs on the TV set!
7. Finally, I got to meet 'most' of the jammers even thou I lurk :)
8. I'm the Daytona USA Champion, better Luck next time at the next Con
Johnny Motown :)
* Mike, did you like the Sammy Hagar Birthday Bash Video from Cabo Wabo?

After attending the Con in NY this past weekend, and seeing all the
demand for another Con in the Midwest (hopefully one that will actually
happen), I've begun thinking about Con IV (or whatever it will be
called), and I think I'm going to head it up. :) I'll let you all know
as things progress.
One of these day's I'll get around to a Con review, and I'll try to get
out a new Tshirt update sometime Thursday.

On 15 Oct 96 at 20:24, ytsejam@ax.com spewed forth the following
words:
> I think Kevin is a Fucking Idiot! (sorry, Bafu, kicks are for Trids). He
> left one of the greatest bands of all time because he thought he could do
> better solo. Wrong! The failures far outweigh the exceptions. Even Sting
> isn't as talented as he thought he was without The Policeman.
the way i understood it, Kevin left because he simply wanted to go in
a different musical direction. i hadn't heard anything about him
having an attitude about doing better as a solo artist. after
listening to Chromakey, i think it's safe that he's not trying to do
better commercially, since it's not very marketable material imo.
(i happen to love the tape, i just don't think it would be well
recieved by the mass public).
so i'm curious what you mean by "he thought he could do better solo".
sometimes people just want to take a different musical direction, it
doesn't make them bad people. or "fucking idiots".

Well, well, well. I'm glad that Ed has decided to travel the civil route
in introducing himself to us.
Just as a point of clarification, Ed, there are a great many topics which
were once beaten to death on this list (as I'm sure there are on others)
which simply are not fair game for further discussions. The reason for
that is that those of us that were here during those discussions realize
now how silly they were, and we'd like to avoid such a waste of time in
the future. Engaging in these discussions never results in anything
constructive. No one ever agrees with the dissenting opinion. No one
ever remembers how specific people felt. It's pointless. We say so not
because we're elitists, but because we already found out the hard way.
That's why your welcome letter discusses the use of private e-mail for
opinion polls.
Now, as for personal insults against other list subscribers who disagree
with you on things, well that's just juvenile, and it has no place here.
Perhaps we are not the ones who need to grow up. Rather, maybe you
should gain a better appreciation of how this list works before trying to
contribute, to make sure that what you do contribute is valuable
information or well-conceived opinion, and not this drivel you have
subjected us to.
Welcome to the list.

Do they send out big e-mail lists on occasion? If so, I personally don't
trust them simply due to the fact that every time I requested to be
removed from the mailing list, I just continued to get more mail! (And
it was a human being reading those messages.) People who continue to
send unsolicited mail torque me. :P

Da Analog Kid (jalfaro@caribe.net) sayz:

>something..
Try the National Midnight Star homepage,
http://www.syrinx.umd.edu/rush.html. Lots of cool stuff there, including
lyrics. If you want directions to Working Man alone, try
http://syrinx.umd.edu/rush/RUSH/01.rush.html#workingman (which is just an
offshoot of the NMS page actually).
And now for something completely different -- a man with three buttocks.
Er, actually, I mean, is there a Fates Warning homepage? Everybody here
raves about FW but I have yet to pick up any of their stuff. I would look in
the issue of the Jam that the FAQ (sort of) appeared in, but I've already
deleted it mistakenly.
DT content: Does *anybody* have any idea how long it's going to be before
the band starts actually recording the new album? I check the Jeff Chew
website frequently and keep seeing new songs added, with no start date in
site. Now, while I have no problem with seeing 90+ minutes of music written,
I know they're going to have to cut something somewhere. (Unless they're
planning on releasing it as a double-CD set? Wishful thinking...) If anybody
knows, let me know! I haven't yet seen DT in concert and my desire to see
them's growing to a low-grade fever!
Cheers,
Phil

There are a couple things to keep in mind. First of all, it's been two
years since Kevin left DT. He may have evolved further back towards prog.
His chroma key demos are a lot different than the things he did
immediately after leaving. Also, it seems like (if this rumor's true, as I
hope it is) he's not really joining Fates, just playing on the album. It's
quite possible that there are only small parts of the song requiring
keyboards. And Fates is a lot different from DT. When you're in DT, you
spend all your time jamming with the band in order to write the songs,
whereas in Fates, Jim writes songs and everyone else gets a tape and
learns them, which seems much less time consuming to me. Dream Theater is
a full-time job, and I think Kevin left not so much because he wasn't in
to the music as it was keeping him from doing other stuff. And while I was
heartbroken at the time, I'm glad he left, because the music he's made
since then is, in my opinion, awesome, and I don't think he could have
done it if he were still in the band.

Hey man, there are plenty of decaffeinated brands on the market that are
just as tasty as the real thing.
Let me stick up for Carlos... he wasn't trying to cut you down, rather, he
was making a suggestion. People are getting too sensitive toward the wrong
things, and missing the important issues altogether.

Are you mad about _MY_ comment about Yanni being on Oprah? Because it was
meant as a compliment. Hell, I'd be proud as hell if DT were on Oprah. I
think Yanni's got a lot to offer. So does Oprah. Wow. They could be good

No problem with me. :) Not everybody can like everything so

Well, if you thought that we'd sound like DT... No. We don't.

Well, that Manowar doesn't exist anymore is not true! Look at
the German charts and you'll see that they are number 7(!!!!)
of the German music charts that contain all kinds of music!
I think this is weird somehow... but anyway.

Hello ye 'jamanoids of the outer cyberspace...
Some of you just might like to check out a few places for album reviews.
Here's two places I know:
Scream (a Norse metal fanzine)
http://www.gi.no/scream/cdreviews/rev__.html
Insert review # in the empty spave before the last dot. AFAIK, at
least reviews 28 - 31 exist at this time, that makes some 700 album
reviews.
Scream reviews something like 150+ albums in every issue, including
every possible area of metal, ranging from prog rock to extreme black
metal. They have a specialized reviewer for every genre, so the reviews
are pretty high class. Btw, Madsword is reviewed in there, as well as
Angra, Stratovarius and maybe a few others you might like to know a
little more about... :)
..and another good one is:
http://www.dse.nl/inferno/issue_/
Again, insert issue # in the blank space. AFAIK, issues 7-9 should be
available. There will be a review of Clockwork in the issue 10, which
will come out in late November.
Inferno concentrates a bit more to the darker sides of metal, but you
will find all sorts of cool stuff in there...
One reviewer of Inferno happens to be a pal of mine and he will gladly
review your demos in Inferno. If you're intending to have your demos
reviewed, contact him. Here's his email address:
mega@lut.fi.
He has a LOT of demos to review for issue 10 (Nov/Dec), but he will
eventually review all the stuff you send him. I hope this helps at least
someone to get some more coverage! Good luck!

Well, I was gonna write some clear, concise commentary on the con,
but I just can't... it's still a whirlwind of imagery and memory.
I sold the Precious Things alpha to Johnny Motown, and the three
betas went to Chris Oates, Paul Cashman (I think) and one other person I
cannot seem to remember just now. I really can't. This is really starting
to bother me. :) They all went for like 80 quid apiece, so they were
definitely the collector's gems of the show, and they hold pace with Ed
Polzin's Subconscious #000 pre-alpha #1 for relative value. The Inside The
Storm discs went for 60 each, a big surprise for me. Ironically, the copy
of Acoustic Dreams I brought was bought for $35. :)
So, uh, guys? Does it suck, or is your silence in awe at the
majestic splendour of Precious Things? Or are you just still tired from
the plane trip like I am? :)
For those who are wondering, Charone and Rachel are every bit as
sweet in person as they are here on the Jam. Ah, to be single again.
It was mega-cool meeting with all of you... having a decent time
and all, I am still trying to remember just who all was there. Tim Spear,
hope you enjoyed the little holiday this side of the pond. Joe Cristina,
that video tape KICKS ASS!!! Pat Griffin put together some
fan-fuckin'-tastic T-shirts for the Jam. If you didn't get one before they
were gone, tough shit: they were good. E-mail him and you might get lucky,
if he had extras left over. Brian Kirk was on hand to hand out the "real"
cover to WDATU, and even sign it here and there... coolness! Q-Zar has
nothing on Laser Quest or Tracer for game balance and equipment
consistency. (grin) You'd think they'd have built more malls by now, in
that area, given what we witnessed there.
AWARDS TIME!! ! (fanfare here...)
The Screaming Eagle Of The Air Award goes to...TIM SPEAR! Having crossed
an ocean to come to the con, he was miles ahead of even Charone, Chris,
and the other Californians for endurance in travel.
The Golden Steering Wheel Award goes to...JOHNNY MOTOWN!! When all the
cars in the groups suddenly departed from Q-Zar leaving eight of us
standing at the walk, John Mastin not only stuck me with a map, list of
directions, and keen eyesight into the navigator's chair, but made two
separate trips from the Long Island mall to LaGuardia... then back
home!!!...just to make sure nobody would be stuck out in nowhereland. And
we only got lost in Queens once, saw one drug deal, almost had less than a
dozen bad drivers hit us (counting one ambulance), and dinged the exit
barrier at the airport BOTH times coming on it. I'm rather proud of him!!
The Damsel In Distress Award goes to...RACHEL GOLDENBERG! Not only does
she live in a place strangely devoid of on-ramps, but she forgot how to
get there when we were trying to take her home. (grin) Time to go back to
them maps, dearest Wisha!
The Tuba Has Priority Over Me Award goes to.... ME! Yup, for the second
half of my flight to NYC, I had to sit in the kitchen because all the
seats were taken, and I had been on a standby reduced-rate ticket, even
though one seat was taken up by a TUBA that could have sat perfectly well
in the cargo hold down below if you ask me. :) And sport jackets DO make a
difference.. Delta stuck me in FIRST CLASS the entire way home! Both
connecting flights!! Talk about being pampered! !! :)
The Thanks a Lot For Finishing My Mario 64 Game While I Was Gone award
goes to... LOUIS IZQUIERDO! This lurker will probably never post, and good
thing, because I ought to deck him one. While I was traipsing around all
of greater New York, he took my Mario 64 cart to his place and decided to
go ahead and finish the game.. so now I gotta start over. Argh.
The Tailor Of The Year Award goes to...PAT GRIFFIN! Yes, it's true, the
rumours you hear are confirmed: there now exists a Ytsejam shirt that
features... I'm so excited I can hardly type it... COLOR!!! Yes, color.
These shirts are top of the rock, and were even available in XXXL for some
of my fatter friends back home.
The Destination-Actually-Exists-For-A-Change Award goes to D-MAN this time
around!! Yes, though we worried for a moment when the LI Mall was having
construction done, and figured that instead of taking us to a restaurant
that no longer existed, D-Man had led us to one that hadn't even been
built yet, D-Man's plans didn't go awry at all this time around. Way to
go, Head Count Coordinator!!! One... two... three... :)
The Enter Sandman Award goes to... CHRIS OATES! I actually managed to
sleep a little on the plane, and Paul and Pat actually got some shut-eye,
thanks to Chris being tired enough to begin our return-to-hotel saga late
that Saturday night so he could sleep. Where logic fails, anatomy takes
over.
The Acoustic Dreams Award goes to... IBANEZ and SYRINX!! What a cool
acoustic set that was! I could tell Mike didn't want to shred his vocal
cords, and was taking a few things an octave down, but it was in tune and
sung emotionally, which is what matters. I hope I didn't ruin Silent Man
too badly. :) I almost expected Take It Easy and/or Hotel Cali, but the
set that was played was quite good.
The Locals Rule Award goes to... NATE BRADLEY! Because locals rule,
especially when forced to be non-local simultaneously and solve dilemmae.
Finally, thanks to everyone I've not yet specifically mentioned, you're
still part of the Great Jumble Of Events that took place, in my mind, and
believe me, you DID matter. That was one hell of a Con. For all those who
missed it... well, you shouldn't have missed it, fools! :)
Waiting for Ytsecon IV with enough CDs to go around next time, I
swear....

hello my dear thespians,
i must say that i am one lucky s.o.b. a few posts ago mikeb let us know
how he somehow managed to try tomonopolize the supply of lie singles in
arizona by buying out best buy's copies of it. now i figured,"ah what the
hell he just bought the ones from the store closest to him (i think that's
the mesa store?) i then called every frigging best buy in the phoenix area
and guess what? mike is too damn good. now i know that someone else
could have bought them or the store just didn't have em, but iiiii know
it's mike! (jk). anyways after reading his post i conned by girlfriend
into driving me to a best buy _in the opposite direction_ (the
pavillions) of mike's house to see if i had a chance in hell at beating
mike to his pillage of the best buy phoenix metropolitan chain. i ran as
fast as i could to the cd section, dashed down the a-f isle
and.....nothing. it was not pretty. i don't think i've cried like that
in a long time (maybe d.o.b. when doctor smack my bum). now this is the
ironic part. in the midst of my tears my girlfriend said "is this what
you were looking for?" IT WAS TSM! i then alliterated "Oh shit" all the
way up to the counter. when i got to the parking lot i thought *ok, i
beat mikeb to the punch neener neener :)* but then it dawned on me i
didn't find _exactly_ what i needed.
Well my quest was finally ended the next day (today... or yesterday for
that matter, WHEN THE FUCK AM I?) i called all over phoenix until i found
it. LIE. i orgasmed. this time i got my girlfriend again and conned
her, again, into driving me to a tower records about 30 miles away. she
agreed. this time i alliterated "Oh shit" on the way there. It changed
to "Oh fuck" when i got to store, and when i bought it i was speechless.
as a disclaimer i did not write this to say that i indirectly had a
pissing contest with mikeb. i happen to think that mike is the best
person to do business with and a cool guy (no ass kissing, just the raw
truth). i just thought it was funny how his post sparked me to act like i
did. i am such an ass.
i guess sugar DOES affect me.
