Hey, guess what I came across at yet another used CD store today
(Slackers in O'Faloon, IL). Enchant's "A Blueprint of the World" CD
for, get this, $2. I kinda dig it. Definitely more prog rock than
DT, but I can see some influences there from first listen.
Definitely worth 2 measly bucks. I also licked up Galactic Cowboy's
EP at Best Buy. Cool stuff. BTW, Slackers also sells used PC games
at a buy 1 get 1 free thing (and at reduced prices, of course).
Don't know how good quality they are, but they have a pretty decent
selection fo stuff. I think I might have to check them out again...

Hope y'all enjoyed the con. Maybe I'll be there next year
(DEFINITELY if it's in St. Louis, right Rip, hehe... ).

Hey now... Yanni is A). NOT a name I'd like to have had my parents bestow
upon me, B). Not on the level of most classical composers (pathetic nobodies
like Mozart... maybe {That's a JOKE! Humor impaired PLEASE forgive me)),
C). Not a BAD composer at all. He has much to offer, mostly to people who
are unfamiliar/intimidated with orchestral compositions. He bridges a gap,
and plays with much emotion. I think that makes up for a lack of Mozartian
(I just wanted to make up a cool word) talent. Like him or love him... it's
up to you... but none of MY favorite bands have ever been on the Oprah show.

It's a shame the Orioles were allowed to have Alomar play in the last game

have blown somebody for that decision.

No, it _WAS_ actually pretty lame. And I don't mean to cut you down. I
think you're pretty cool, but I don't think that comment you made even made
sense in the jam... I didn't see any reason for it. That's just me.

Okay, now that I got some info on Mr. Lodge, I know I'll have to fill up my
patience tank with premium should I decide to patronize his business.

However, for the benefit of us Jammers who might be on a quest across the
internet for bootlegs, perhaps we could contribute names of people TO AVOID.
This would help people like myself from getting burned. For instance, just
last week I heard from someone somewhere (might've been a newsgroup) that CD
Cellar has a bad rap. But I am on their mailing list and not only did they
respond to a query of mine, they sent me an update of their inventory just
the other day....so I don't know what to believe. We all know there are a
lot of baaad people out in cyberspace, so you can't blame me for trying to
    be careful.

Everyone's help will be most appreciated.

Hi all! In keeping with the spirit of Columbus Day (the 504th
anniversary of the day that Columbus didn't discover America), I'm going
to share a discovery that I made today with all of you. Maybe it's not
really a discovery, but more of a realization - anyway....

The difference between prog and a lot of today's popular music:
I think that there is experimentation going on in today's popular music-
but it's a different kind of experimentation than the kind we see in
prog. In prog, the experimentation is more with the notes that are
played, whereas with popular music the experimentation is with sounds.
It makes me sound like a music snob, but I (personally) am more
interested in experiments with melodies, chord voicings, and chord
progressions than with many experimental layers of distorted guitar and
    things like that.

    Synopsis:
Prog=experiment with notes Pop=experiment with sounds

Also - I would like to thank whomever it was that posted the address of
the Extreme list. Thanks to you, a Ytsejammer has successfully
infiltrated the ranks of those who are contributing to the Extreme
tribute album. And no, that Ytsejammer will not be causing trouble - he
will do his best to honor the band who produced "More Than Words" :^

Hi all you St. Louis 'jammers. I sincerely hope you guys get the next
Ytsecon. All the friendly shit being said, I also hope the Cardinals don't
enjoy their visit to Atlanta this week. What the hell is this 14-0 crap?
No, I'm not dissing the Cards, I'm just shocked. If the Cards do win,
then I'll be pulling for them to beat the Yankees. But until then, I'm
putting my hopes on the shoulders of Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine.

On a DT note, did his highness Mike Bahr let anyone hear his prototype
copy of the new DT boot, or did he just sell it? Either way, I (and many
others like me) are curious as to what is on there. Someone post on
    this, please.

Hi Bernd and all you jammers,

OK I'm a bit late on this, but this is to clarify my position on Superior
when I saw your last post on the jam. First of all, are you a member of the
    band?

Earlier this week, I posted to the jam saying that Superior was a big
disappointment for me. This has less to do with their ability or style than
all the hailing done on the jam that created big expectations on my side. I
thought Sup would be quite near DT, but IMO sounds much more like Vanden
Plas and alikes. So I just wanted to clarify that my disappointment was
relative to high expectations. I don't question their quality, but
    originality.

I'd also like to add that

yes, Sup is HM. Judas And Manowar don't exist anymore and today's HM is
more subtle and prog, taken over by bands like VP, Sup, Sav, Angra,
    Conception, etc. etc.

yes, it is courageous to do HM in the 90s and it is amazing that prog is
such a huge underground phenomena. Yes, you heard it, prog is definitely
one of the biggest underground around. Judge for yourself, the number of
web pages for bands like DT or FW, etc. is impressive, considering the
number of fans. The trade going on, the Con, the merch, this sums up to a
    huge underground "industry".

If prog is to be the voice of HM in the 2000s, so be it. I couldn't be more
    happy about it.

    Cheers,

What does everyone think about this CD? I just got it a few days
ago, and I love it. I'll admit it, it's my first Rush CD. I absolutely
love it. I'm really happy, because not everything I've heard from Rush
really impressed me. I do like "Closer to the Heart" a lot, and my fave
Rush (before this disc) was "Subdivisions" (great, thought-provoking
lyrics and great music), but other than that they hadn't impressed me.
But this disc is just awesome. My new fave Rush song is "Driven". "But
it's my turn to drive... it's my turn to drive..."

I actually know some of the band Members. Their name used to be "Aura", but since this name was already in use, they changed it. I've seen them live two times. About a year ago, they were still covering DT (Metropolis, The Mirror, Lie, e.a.), but know they're only playing their own music. Our own bass player knows them very well personally. Their bass player plays a Stick (for those who do not know: SIX bass strings AND SIX guitar strings on ONE neck, to be played only by tapping with both hands, which sounds like a bass and a guitar played at the same time). Their recent first album is really great and sounds a lot like DT, but with a little more weird ehm... time signatures (how do I say this in English??), like 13/8 and 5/4 bars, etc.

    Check it out, it's great!

    Hi all,

I recently got the tab to "Fortune in Lies" from the LSOAD web site. now at the solo (where JP starts the tapping segment) I'm having trouble with the first two sections. Does anybody know if it is correct....I mean to me it seems there are some notes missing. But it could be me, where I'm doing wrong beat count. I think I should mention that I have the LAM virsion of the song not the original....so I don't know how much they are the same.

I think it should be worth mentioning that, I'm not a good tapper. but was really bored doing that three note tap thing that's in all magazines! I know I should learn the VH licks, but, somehow I always have trouble connecting his songs with his solos. To me he's like yngwee just that vh's songs are better. But that's just my op. I'm alowed to have my own tast in music even if it pisses somebody off, aren't I??

    thanx in advance.

I'm complaining. If he were to join a prog rock group, that would make his whole departure from DT senseless. From the limited stuff I've heard of Derek, I think Kevin was a better player. But then again, I've just heard some live shows and ACoS, which much of the original was played by Kevin anyway. We'll see on the new album.

hehe, i love debates based completely on opinions where no one comes to a conclusion but arguing back and forth. :) personally, i love em both, their sound is way different on both discs, why pic a fave, just enjoy em. Its like comparing Trey Azagthoth to Yanni :)

Just to clear a couple things up here, I barely ran over its tail. I had obviously been there for a while and was probably was don't all travelers a great service by filling one of NY's many pot holes.

But the dog did get his revenge. Sunday night after a meeting with Paul O'Niell and Bob Kinkel about Savatage and TSO, I got a flat tire. I definately wasn't the best location in Queens, but then again it wasn't the worst either since I am indeed still alive.
