Yes, I'm sure there will be a multitude of posts from people about the
'con, and I know it may seem unfair to those who didn't go, but I don't
    care. :)

As a first-time visitor to New York City, I'd also like to share some
observations on the city itself. First of all - to whoever picked the
location, it was great if you were flying in, but HORRIBLE if you were
driving. There are apparently no regular streets on Long Island -
everything is a parkway. Driving home from the Power Windows show last
night required us to drive on 3 parkways and one expressway. In a 20
minute drive. We don't even *have* three parkways in MA. Of course, we
were driving D-Man home, so it was worth it, because now I know where he
    lives. :)

Which leads to the con, and what it was really all about - the people.
It was great to finally be able to put names with faces, and meet some
really great people, although the requirement that we all kiss Mike
Bahr's feet before we could get into the hall may have been a LITTLE out
    of line....

Seriously though, we bought everything Mike brought out for us, a lot of
us bought Gabbo's kewl Ytsejam t-shirts (if you haven't bought one yet -
    do it).
We listened to Syrinx and Ibanez doing an (apparently) unrehearsed
acoustic set for us...and we took some probably rather odd pictures that
I expect will be on someone's web page(s) within the next couple of
    days.

And no, noone from the band was there. And you know what else? I
    couldn't have cared less.

A couple of final points, and then I'm outta here

    1) Don't *ever* play lazer tag against Jeff Chew. No matter what he
tells you, he *has played before. :)

    2) New York drivers honk their horns way way way WAY too much.

    3) If anybody needs to know where a certain airline's terminal is at
LaGuardia, I think we've got you covered. It seems like every time we
tried to leave the hotel (or come back to it), we ended up taking a
    scenic route through the airport.

4)To Mike Bahr, D-Man, Wisha, Gabbo, Irene, Pellaz, and all the other
wackos I finally met: As D-Man would say - you guys nok radz! :)

And now, back to everybody else's review......

         Hey jammerz!

YT> DT FANS LISTEN UP:!!!!!!FUCKIN EXCELLENT NEW BAND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO
    YT>HAVENT LEARNT IT YET:ANGRA !!!!! ANGRA !!!!!! ANGRA !!!!!!!! ANGRA !
    YT>!!!!!!! ANGRA!!!!!!!!

         Not SO new, huh?
I've already seen two concerts of theirs around here: one ni the
first Monsters of rock, in 1994, and one last Saturday. And I missed
    the two nights in July.
Their guitar player (Kiko Loureiro) is incredible, I met him at
the Malmsteen show here. I don't like them very much, but their covers
of Maiden's Wasted Years and Juda's Painkiller kick ass!!!
There's another band around here, not prog metal, more to heavy
metal than anything else, and I consider their guitarist much better
than Angra's. The band is called Dr. Sin (I met the guitarist at
Malmsteen's concert too, he was together with Kiko :) ).

YT> Fans of the good old Helloween will especially worship this band....Best
YT>Power Progressive stuff i ve heard in Years!

There's a new album coming out now in October, "Freedom Call". I
    think it's worth checking out.

A couple of items from the World of Adam....

I, too, was at the Concord G3 show. I suppose I'll mostly be corroborating
what everyone else has said. Kenny Wayne Sheppard can really play. He IS
still a little derivitive, but he's a good one, in the Eric Gales tradition
    of great young blues players.

Steve Vai was good -- he closed with "For The Love Of God," which was, of
course, tremendous. The rest of his set was pretty wild...mostly in a good
way, but his tendencies to excess drew away a little, I'd say, from the
musical content. He's a master showman, though...clearly influenced by his
time with David Lee Roth. And very, very loud. One of the loudest I've
    heard in quite a while.

Eric Johnson was tremendous. The mix was a little low the first couple of
tunes....the remodeled Concord Pavilion really bounces around the high end,
which hurt his tone on a couple of tunes. "Zap" was awesome, "Righteous"
was very good....but it was more a workmanlike performance than the other
two times I'd seen him, when he was truly amazing. He may be tired of
playing the tune, but I missed "Cliffs Of Dover," his traditional
show-stopper. No "Soulful Terrain," "High Landrons," "Desert Rose," "Easy
Wes," or "Trademark," either. He played well, but the setlist was only
    so-so, I'd say.

Satriani was the highlight, I'd have to say. He was definitely in fine
form, played extremely well....and leaned on his older stuff more than I
thought he would -- didn't play "Cryin'," "War," or "Rubina's Blue Sky
Happiness." A lot off of "Flying In A Blue Dream" and "Surfing With The
Alien," which are his two strongest albums, in my opinion. More of a
"greatest hits" set than the other two. Stu Hamm was awesome and I didn't
    miss Mover too much.

The encore/jam thing at the end was nice (and Schon played awfully well). I
have mixed feelings about this one, though....here these wonderful
guitarists are playing intense, brilliant music for a couple of hours and
then the apex of the show is a bunch of guys sitting around, playing "I'm
Going Down" and "Red House." Sure, they uncorked some impressive solos, but
it was probably the LEAST interesting thing, musically, of the night. I
know it's a tradition, but it's a little pale next to the original material
    played that night.

One other gripe -- couldn't we get 15 more minutes into each set? Steve Vai
only played a few tunes, and you could really feel that EJ was a little
roped in by the length. On his own, he's liable to really stretch a tune --
give you 10 minutes of "Desert Rose" or whatever. In this setting, he
really gives you interesting and credible renditions of each tune, but I
miss the prolonged improvisation. And maybe we coulda heard "Cliffs of
Dover." Satriani's slightly longer set was actually very good, I should add.

And (in John McLaughlin fashion) Issue Number Two:

I'm highly, HIGHLY recommending the new Galactic Cowboys EP, "Feel The
Rage." It's a GOOD one...."Feel The Rage" was already a great one -- one of
the 'Boys half-dozen best tunes. Add "Paradigm Shift" to that list of
really good ones... and the live version of "Idle Minds" is impressive, too.
It's not the place to start if you're not already a fan, but if you ARE,
this is a GOOD purchase to make...I'm behind it, anyhow.

I should have done this for Fantasy Football at ESPN, but I will next year.
ESPN offers Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Football, and now Fantasy
Basketball. They charge like 29.95 the first time you do one but after
that you can do it for $19.95. This is a one time fee and there are no
other charges. They automate everything so it makes it easy to do. You
can form leagues and play against people you know. I am not affiliated
with ESPN or starwave in anyform. I just enjoy fantasy sport games. Also
if you join you are then allowed to access all the ESPNET subscriber links...

So I formed a private league and am inviting jammers to join up and join
the league. Each league allows 12 teams so for this league there are 10
vacant spots open. So the first 10 to join are in.

The link to sign up is available from:
    http://games0-espnet.sportszone.com/cgi/fba97/Request.dll?FRONTPAGE

So sign up and pay for a team then join the league
league name: "From The Foul Line"
    password: "nbajam"

I know I should have named it "Ytsejam league" or something like that but
I wanted to name my team Ytse Jammers...

You can get all the rules and stuff from the above link.

If anyone joins, drop me a line letting me know...

Apparently Bafu *really* wants the answer to this, since it showed up twice
    in this digest. :) :)

Pablo Casals is a cellist of extraordinary talent and great wisdom (as seen
in the above quote). I have also heard that he can also play the violin,
though I have no confirmation of this. The last information I had on him
placed him with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra.

Another interesting Casals story: he was being interviewed by a journalist
and the following exchange took place:

Journalist: Why, after so many years of playing the cello, do you still
practice so much? [Casals is over seventy, if I remember correctly].
Casals: Because, after all this time, I have some notion that I am improving.

    Cheers,

They *can* know who is connected and from what server. I've connected to
a few servers that their main page says something like this:
"You have visited *this site* from *your address and server* and using
*your browser*, this is just for security measures " and blah blah. I
changed from Netscape to Internet Explocrap and instead of saying
netscape they identified the browser. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't
being ripped off or anything, but they can know what server you're on.

Hey, has anybody here tried to email Tim Lodge about his supply of
Instrumental and Majesty Demos CD's? Does he answer his email? Does he
deliver? I'm real wary of ordering from him.
