Hmm, that's interesting. I was introduced to FW only about a year or so
ago. It was ||s. When I heard "Leave the Past Behind" for the first
time, I immediately had to play the song over. The only reason it took
that long for me to get into it was the fact that I waited for the song
to finish before rewinding it :)
I haven't heard PS yet. Is it a much different sound than ||s? I notice
their sound changes a lot from one album to the next.

Amen!
The tape I use for road tunes is so worn, it fakes out the auto-reverse
logic on the deck; but it's ok, cuz it's on parts that I don't mind
obsessing on :)

Any pools set up for the birth date of Jam #2112 ?
Oops, forget I said that. I just had visions of pocket calculators

Hey :-)
I've just finished 83 (!) 256-color Tori Amos icons, plus one very cool
animated cursor of Tori's latest performance on the Late Show :-)
If you're interested, you can download them from my homepage...
There are two icons called "LE_full.ico" and "LE_empty.ico" (the "Little
Earthquakes" cover with and without Tori) I've created for the Windows
'95 Recycle Bin.
Next week or so, I'll replace them with a bunch of *Marillion* icons...
(still have to make those). After that I'll probably do some *Dream
Theater* icons too :-)
Let me know what you think of my TorIcons :-)

hey, yeah, Anthrax used to have a different bassist. He was only on their
first album "Fistful Of Metal" back in 82 or somewhere around then. Here's
the band lineup for this album:
Scott Ian--same as now
Dan Spitz--lead
Neil Turbin--vocals (before Joey...)
Dan Lilker--BASS
Charlie Benante--hmmm...hehehe
Dan Lilker, btw, is still great friends with most of the dudes in thrax. He
was in SOD with Scott, and Danny in '85-86 or so (I think it was danny...I
don't have any SOD stuff...).
So he was auditioning for a play?? details!!! gimmee details...8)

Dear jammers,
Hey there! Here's an update for the YtseCon III! First of all, it will
take place at the La Guardia Marriot (Queens, NY), on Saturday, October
12th from 1pm to 5pm. We have spoken to Dream Theater and management, and
they say that there is a good chance that they will be there.
The cost for pre-paid tickets is $20 per person. The cost at the door
will be $25 per person. This will cover the cost of the conference room
and other miscellaneous stuff (name tags, programs, etc.). If you would
like to pay in advance, please send a check to:
YtseCon III
c/o Jeff Chew
350 Broadway, Suite 703
New York, NY 10013
When you send a check, please include a note or letter that says your
name, return address, e-mail address, and phone number. This makes things
a lot easier for us when we send the tickets back to you, plus if we ever
need to get in contact with you.
Since the Con is coming up pretty close already, and we haven't had the
chance to get our acts together to mail out the tickets/name tags, we've
decided to distribute the name tags (they will be numbered) at the door.
So, you will have to bring a form of ID so you can pick up your ticket.
Due to the lack of reservations, we have decided to return the block of 75
rooms to the Marriot. So, we have arranged it so that you can contact the
Marriot through their 800 number. If you need a room, call the La Guardia
Marriot at 1-800-882-1043. *REMEMBER TO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE GOING TO
THE "DREAM THEATER CONVENTION"*. The deadline to reserve a room is
October 4th. If you need to find someone to split a room with, the staff
is still doing that (well, Greg is), so you can contact him at
grc8@columbia.edu.
If you plan on flying to the YtseCon III, we have arranged something with
Rich Worldwide Travel so you can reserve airline tickets through them by
calling their 800 number. Please call 1-800-431-1130, and tell them that
you are going to the 'Dream Theater Convention'.
If you can provide a ride to the YtseCon III, or if you are in need of a
ride, please contact me by either e-mailing me or calling me and I will
see what I can do.
Syrinx gave me the idea of writing up a list of paid tickets. If you sent
out a check to me and you're not on the list, let me know! IT could be
either lost in the mail or it didn't get to me yet. Well, here goes:
1N - One night reserved at the Marriot (these are only the ones that were
sent to me rather than directly to the Marriot)
2N - Two nights reserved at the MArriot
R - Providing rides
L - Providing a place to stay
Paid:
001 Ryan T. Rafaloff 002 Ryan T. Rafaloff 003 David Neff
004 Sean Haider 005 Sean Haider 006 Brian Anderson + 1N
007 Brian Anderson 008 Brian Anderson 009 Pat Gravino
010 Mike Ostrich + 1N 011 Mike Ostrich 012 Dave Pack
013 Brian Levy 014 Jason Breitweg 015 Mike Bahr + 1N
016 Josh Sager 017 Josh Sager 018 Josh Sager
019 Josh Sager 020 Jeff Chew 021 Greg Chew
022 Michael Pomerleau 023 Michael Pomerleau 024 Matthew Erwich
025 Paul Cashman 026 Brian Kirk 027 Brian Kirk
028 Jeffrey Falk 029 Pat Sullivan 030 Joe Cristina
031 Irene Raceu 032 Pat Griffin 033 Craig Moran
034 Ryan Redfern 035 Scott Luttringer 036 Nathan Bradley
037 Nathan Bradley 038 Ryan Webb 039 Ryan Webb
Okay, that's it so far. It's not looking very good so far, and I really
need the money to put the deposit on the conference room, so I'd prefer if
you guys sent me the money ahead of time rather than paying more at the
door. That's it for now. If there are any mistakes, e-mail me! I'll
talk to you soon!
Yours,
Jeff =)

I guess you mean the album Crimson from Edge of Sanity. They're a Swedish Death Metal band, but their main songwriter Dan Swanoe is a huge fan of prog rock, so expect some prog influences. I have to admit though, that I don't know Crimson, but I absolutely recommend their album The Spectral Sorrows. That one offers a large amount of Death Metal-power AND an equally large amount of variety. Check it out! I hope that was helpful...

I personally get really noticably pissed off when people start making racial remarks like that OJ joke. I have no room in my life for fucking ignorance.
On a good note, Anthony from Clockwork sent me a copy of "Weaving," and while I think it's got a lot of room for improvement, it sounds to me like this was caused by being "rushed" in the studio. This is some great material, but I felt they needed to relax more and flow. Now I hear they have a new singer, and I can't wait to hear the new music. They have good taste in writing, esp. in keys and lyrics. There was a great sequenced intro opening up the demo. The guitars actually remind me of me. They have the same little alternate picking problems (that only someone that plays like us would notice) I have, and at times, a similar "Jason Becker" sounding influence. Not that I'm saying I'm as good or not as good. I don't compare myself to anyone in quality really. That's tacky. :)
I think this band is gonna knock some socks off when they come out with some well rehearsed music. More power to bands like this. Gives us a lot to look forward to.
ACK! Steve Johnson, you actually saved my ASS by saying that G3 sold out here in Chi-town. I was going to get my tix 2 days ago, and something came up. I almost shat myself when I saw that it was sold out. My buddy introduced me to his "scalper" friend, and I got his last two tickets. My procrastination is costing me $45 a ticket though! Heh. Money's not an issue though. Mike Keneally, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, and Adrian Legg... that will be a show!
The New Michael Hedges is great. Anyone into acoustic music, looking for some wild and crazy compositions should check him out. Mail me and I'll give you a list of some albums to check out, or maybe get you a .wav or two.
You may proceed.

BTW, in other Atlantic news, ALL SAVATAGE FANS LISTEN UP: Very soon there is going to be a release by a group called Trans-Siberian Orchestra called "Christmas Eve And Other Stories." This album is partly the brainchild of Savatage's JON OLIVA and features guest appearances by none other than Al Pitrelli and Zak Stevens. It is best described as a heavy metal Christmas concept album. Think of it as "Dead Winter Dead" meets "Jingle Bells" and you get the idea. There is a story line which contains both original songs and reworked versions of Christmas standards. Some of the arrangements are very Savatage-esque and will blow your mind. Speaking of which, Savatage's very own "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" turns up here and is not out of place, which gives you an idea of what kind of album this is. I've heard it an it is unbelievable. Imagine: a heavy metal release by a major label. Who would have thought. Anyway, look for it under "Symphonic Rock Christmas" sections in your record stores. You won't be disappointed.

For anyone considering getting the DREG records progressive compilation/sampler album "DREGS of the Internet - Vol. I", lemme just pass along my recommendations. This is a great album - every track is solid (that's right - no stinkers!). And its featured Clockwork? Fat city - new vocalist. This CD is a great way, like the tape swap currently going on, to be exposed to a substantial number of bands at once. Whee, auk-cellent.
My condolences to all those stuck at the Ytsecon, as, I'm sure you realize by now, the *real* party is here at my house. You're welcome to come on over, but you'll have to be real quiet-like, so as to not wake my parents. We could play Nintendo -- I've got Contra *and* Duck Hunt! Only one controller, though, so you'll have to watch me play... Up, up, down, down, left-right, left-right, B-A-B-A, select, select, start - the true key to success in life.

Hey, I just saw this old dude (I'm talking elderly here) the other night at the grocery store that was wearing this hat (one of those ball caps with the white foam front and blue mesh back) that had "Rush" on it in those sort of fuzzy-type letters you can get at sporting goods stores (for team shirts and stuff). Needless to say, my first thought was "hey, kewl, a really old dude that's into rush," but then I figured his name's probably Rush and forgot about it. I did see a kid (probably about 10 or so) wearing a Counterparts t-shirt, so that was sort of cool.. Man, it's late.
