This is not a flame, but havent you thought about how Mike would feel,i
mean i bet he and the band get lots of demo tapes requesting either an
opening slot or some other things..call me negative but it think your
request would be kindly denied by Mr Portnoy.. or maybe not..who

Unfortunately, the folks back home took it as an "I like cows" signal and
are now sending me all atrocities of cow mugs and wind chimes... ::retch::

Eeew. Sorry to hear about that. If it makes you feel any better while I
was watching the Noon news during my lunch hour somewhere in the US people
were celebrating National Fix Your Toilet Day (or something like that) and
people were drinking coffee out of mugs that looked like toilets. Doesn't
that make you want to yak all over?

Oh now wait a minute let's review this. I was in my hotel room when you
called and said "Babs we've lost the name tags. The whole car fell into
the water off of the ferry on our way over here..." and I knew better than
that. Then you came and knocked on my door, you and Kevin and the
entourage. You were stinking of alcohol.

Besides, I didn't get my tongue stuck in the elevator....ummm, ring any
    bells????

Wasn't me idget, it was your friend Kevin. I think that that was after we
had harrassed the wedding party. You and Mike just sat there while Kevin
was groping me to death on the dance floor. Come to think of it, I think
Mike was on the dance floor doing some goldfish in a bowl impersonation....

I was watching a craft show where you can laminate things and use them as
placemats and centerpieces. Perhaps you should try that....

    Hello fellow 'Jammers,
Yes, I am still trying to unload those tickets for the G 3 concert this
coming Saturday at the Hollywood Bowl. So, to tantalize you even more, I am
dropping the price. How does $15 sound? Give me an offer. Who would pass up
a chance to see Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, AND Eric Johnson (plus special guest
    Kenny Wayne Shepherd)?
They are still the same seats...Section D, Row 19, Seats 2-12 (6 tix).
Check out a map of the Bowl, they are pretty good seats.
Inquiries, questions, or suggestions, please e-mail me privately.
            Thank you.

    The computer geek question:

Rip asked about being able to filter Jam messages in ack mode.
There are a couple UNIX public domain stuff you can run (If, of course,
you're running UNIX. :D ) They are mailagent and procmail. Mailagent uses
perl, I believe. Anyhoo, you can write your own custom rulsets. This is
provided that you are one a UNIX system.

If you are using a PC with Win95, you can take a look at

            http://www.tucows.interlynx.net/server95.html

They might offer something that will do the filtering thing on PCs...

Richie Rivera asks why he should go to the Con:

Simple. I'm gonna be there and I'm the coolest guy I know. :) Just
kidding, if you come out, I'm sure you'll have a good time. I'm gonna be
there with bells on, well maybe without the bells. :) You never know,
maybe James will ask me for my autograph. (Ha, ha, ha! Yeah, right...) :D

Suz was talking about her "got cookies?" poster. If you go to Venice
Beach, there is this T-shirt place there that has a picture of Homer
Simpson on with munching on a pretzel with a puzzled look on his face.
The caption on the bottom says, "Got beer?" Too funny...

Well, one more day until the Con. Hope to see many of you there. Just ask
the scary, spazzy, serial killer lookin' like guy if he's Johnny Motown.

    Enough of my mindless bantering,

    The one
    The only (thank God!)
    Johnny Motown

I didn't even know there was a new Galactic Cowboys cd until someone
    mentioned it on here.

Well I picked that up today. The tracks:
    1. Feel the Rage
    2. Paradigm Shift
    3. I want You (KISS cover)=--cool!!!
    4. Junior's Farm (Wings?? cover)
    5. Idle Minds (live)
    6. 9th of June (live)

Pretty good, not as thrashy as Machine Fish

I also picked up Marty Friedman's True Obsessions.

So far on the second track it is great. The singer is not too bad. Marty
so far is a lot heveir than he is on Introduction and Scenes...

I realize this is coming a bit late, but this in regards to people
liking Yanni. I like Yanni, not for taking apart the music, but it's quite
pleasing to the ear. But what I think attracts many laymen to his music is
his incessant use of 7/8. He writes song after song in 7/8. The rhythmic
patterns are unlike anything many people have heard, and it is very refreshing.
Part of what makes progressive different is that it can be listened
to at several levels. There is face value, which refers to overall sound.
This is how you listen to less complex music. Progressive, however, can
also be taken apart, much like good poetry. Every time you hear a song, you
    hear something new.

just wanted to wish you all luck at the con. the 5 strippers that
mysteriously (well, not so anymore) show up and lap dance on mike bahr's lap-
those'll be my doing. i hope they do you good, mikey.

me? i'm going to sit here after my gig tonight, and philosophize as to
whether the law should or shouldn't promote certain lifestyles, and turn that
    into my 10-15 paged midtrerm.

if dt shows, cool. if not, shit happens. nonetheless, all you people, have a
good time, discussing the fine points of this little band we dig, and watch
the planes coming down over your head, cause you never know.

    now some commentary
dr. mosh- you SUCK!!!!!! why couldn't you have written the fw listening to me
a year ago, when i was in the same predicament? i, oddly enough, ended up
selling my copy of "chasing time" to someone on this very ytsejam. oh well.

anyone into medeski, martin and wood? if so, don't forget the new album comes
out tuesday. it's supposed to be cracksmoking-like.

lastly, good luck to any/all of you taking the gre's in 24 hours. have fun
(btw, anyone here ever take the music gre's? need info).

    alright, enough shit. later, girls.

Hey jammers! Another newbie here who's been cruisin' for a couple weeks
and now ready to 'expose' himself to everyone (ha-ha)! Anyway, it seems
I've missed quite abit in the past jams so bear with me if I maybe step on
some toes or seem somewhat ignorant about what may have already been
    covered.....
Of course DT's my favorite group but, like alot of you I listen to just
about everything. Being a drummer and having a degree in Music Ed helps
out alot but if something touches me I'll like it....
I grew up in the late 70's/early 80's musical void but first got hooked on
Rush during the 'Moving Pictures' era, then discovered Queensryche's 'Rage
For Order'. In college I got into stuff like Metal Church, Lizzy Borden,
Iron Maiden, and Fates Warning. Currently I jam to DT, FW, NIN, Primus,
etc. And my guilty pleasures include The Blues Brothers, Yanni, Jon
    Anderson and some James Brown.
I'll go out on a limb and tell you I haven't seen DT live yet (Ouch, that
hurts!!). But I will definitely see them next year..I will..I will..I
will!!!! I *did* get to see Portnoy in clinic here in Ohio (Hi Maria!!) a
couple months ago and, just as I always thought, he was excellent!!! He
played along to a couple of the new demos and they will definitely be worth
    waiting for!!!
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some good bands in the DT vein.
I've read a lot of suggestions in the past jams but don't have access to
and stores that might carry those groups. Can someone send me some
addresses where I could get catalogs or order some prog CD's? Would
Camelot music stores carry anything worth buying? I got the Rush tribute
there but they don't have any other MC artists. Also, they have the Yes
tribute and the Tull tribute. Are either of these worth getting?

            Art.....

            "I never bared my emotions
             My passion always strong
             I never lost my devotion
             But somewhere fate went wrong......

hits album. It was kind of weird at first. I mean they have changed their
style alot. Then I got No Exit just for IGoD. I heard that it was on par
with ACoS which I have to agree with. Then I got PS which is one of the
    best cds I own!

How many people are taping the con besides Ryan, and Pat? Since Pat bought
up a good point about how the tape degrades after each generation. Maybe if
more people tape the con we could lessen how many total generations there
    will be.
But this is just a point I want to bring up so the people taping it can
start talking about it. Instead of one person being hassled by 700+ jammers
whining about when they're going to get their tape.

Also, I've been trying to get a hold of a CD called Crimson by a band
Crimson. I remember someone here posted about it in May or June. I
remember that it only had one song on it called, that's right you guessed
it, Crimson. It clocked in at 55:00. Well, email me or post it(they are a
    prog band, I think).
