I haven't seen any jokes towards caucasian Americans on the Jam (if you're
gonna be Politically Correct, then do it right), but if it's funny, I'll
laugh just as I would a Pollack joke or any other. I only have one
requirement, it has to be funny.

    Random Potshots:

Myung's bass tone: I don't sound much like it, but it's not bad. He cites
Billy Sheehan as a big sonic influence, which isn't so bad. My sound is
more informed by players like Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, and Jeff Berlin,
with the pronounced and aggressive lower midrange. It's a tougher sound to
play with, though, than a sound that's beefy and given definition by the top
end. Long ago, though, I used a more Jack Bruce-like sound. In fact, poor
by lazy left me playing bass out of a Gorilla guitar practice amp for a few
months. I cranked everything, including the gain, which actually yielded a
surprisingly big sound, all things considered (beat the crap out of the amp,
though). People would be surprised, walking in on our practices, to find
that I was even audible out of that thing, much less presenting a reasonable
sound. Myung's sound has some overdrive to it, periodically, but he's got a
lot of clean power in his rig. And his sound IS somewhat Sheehan-esque.

Peart's lyrics: Short, simple. He's the best.

I know you folks have been doing it, and I'm just humbly beseeching you to
continue: I haven't yet seen Rush. I'm catching two shows out here in the
Bay Area and am really trying pretty hard NOT to know what's coming. If we
can keep the spoiler warnings going here, at least for a while, I'm sure a
few of us would be appreciative.

Hi. It's me again. My boss is going to be on jury duty tomorrow so I am
happy! If I had any musical talent I'd go write a song or something. Anyway,
I'm also on the Heart "Dreamboat Annie" mailing list where I recently
decided to post about how great DT is and attempt to answer questions, get
some curious ppl. in the right direction. Well afterwards this guy posted
and I thought I'd share it with all of you. Please Excuse the guy's spelling
of DT...for that and space reasons I'm only pasting a little of the message
itself. He'll prob join the list soon tho.
Hey if I ever get the film developed and a scanner, Con photos will be on my
very outdated (but soon to be revised page). Speaking of pages, I'll sign
some guestbooks soon. Speaking of shirts (was I?) I wonder if wearing the
Pat DT shirt tomorrow is inappropriate for work. I mean it's a business
professional place and ... yeah I think it is definitely too good for them.
I did have a reason for posting.... oh yeah:

WOW!! I'm very shocked. As for "Mission"...the very first glimpse of
Erics voice blew me away. I get a tingly feeling everytime I hear him
start that tune off. And I thought that Jack Russell totally JAMMNED on

How's everyone doing? Too much good stuff for a Monday.(My boss really will
be out of the office tomorrow) Hmmm, wonder what Friday will be like!
Anyway, I just got word from my brother who works out in Boston and seems
that he's been listening to A Change of Seasons lately! :) When I first
played DT for him, he said he heard PMU before, one of his friends had it,
he didn't know who it was... whatever. Time passes. At some point I left
ACoS in the cd rom drive in my computer and he was working on something
listening to the cover songs. Time passes, but he never mentioned buying any
DT. Anyway, kind of ironic cause ACoS is prob __my__ least favorite. I'm not
a musician and I just think that I&W, Awake, WDADU (not nec. in that order,
who knows) speak to me more, even tho I can see the strenghts of ACoS and
watching/hearing it played live was intense. Umm, At work I love listening
to the city, whispering... wait. sorry. I like listening to Awake over and
over and over again. Maybe it's the job, maybe it's me. Whatever, anyway,
maybe it is me, cause one guy I work with who I let borrow ACoS really
really likes it. He wanted me to tape parts. I told him to buy it down the
street. I let him hear parts of I&W and Awake and tho he seemed to think it
was ok, he didn't seem to care. Of course he can't love anything as much as
sports. I have to give him back my ACoS cd, cause lately Sheryl Crow has
been blasting from his office. Having said all that; I always knew my
brother was cool, and am glad to share this with everyone even if it didn't
    make that much sense....:)

Hey everyone!! well, if you thought it was bad that
someone got the Lemur Voice CD for 6 bucks...just wait till
    you hear this....
I was at a used book store in Mesquite Texas on Saturday.....just
browsing around....and whattya know, they have a little section with
a few CD's in it....so I check it out...most of it was total crap..
then, out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of Lemur Voice!!
I took it out, and looked at the priced $2.99!! Woohoo!!!
of course, i snatched it up right then and there....I've only listened
to it once, and I must say...it's an awesome CD....some of it will take
a bit of getting used to, but I like it none the less...well worth whatever
most of you had to pay for it..hahahhaha...ok..I'm off to write my review of
the G3 show in Dallas!! beware of it, it's coming soon :)

It's just a matter of opinion really...To me, time changes keep the music
interesting. I've listened to songs on the radio (w/o time changes) for the
first time and could almost predict how the song was gonna go, before i
heard it. With different time changes, the music becomes unpredictable.

The reason time changes are probably "regarded so highly on this list" is
because this list is a discussion of a band who uses them.

Ya probably won't find to many people who like time changes (or know what
one is) on a green day mailing list.

    IMO of course.

oK..im gonna reply in my own..um..ok..lemme explain..for me.. i like
listening to music with time changes because you dont get bored..like if you
listen to Metallica.. and lets say you put on songs from And Justice for
All....you hear a difference inside a one song...while on Load or even black
album you get bored easily listening to Verse in one time/sig chorus in
another..and verse in the other time sig.. i dont know if youll understand
    what i mean..

Um..ill have to disagree with that.. at least on the song
looser...its all in one time sig.. a friend of mine played it for a class in
school..and he did it with a drum machine../maybe i have a wrong aproach to
time sigs.. but at least the drums are always doig the same thing in their

    Howdy.

I have a copy of Hour of Restoration on CD that I'd like to sell.
This is one of the originals, not of the re-issues that are due out
soon. I don't think I actually ever played this thing. I think
I picked it up for someone else but then the deal fell through
    somehow.

I was under the assumption that this thing was new and not used since
I bought it from dealer (i've never seen him selling used stuff for).
It isn't shrink-wrapped but there are no scratches on the CD or anything.
I think there is a bit of a wrinkle in the CD book though. I don't know
how it go there if it is new.

I think I paid around $15 for this thing. I guess I'd like to at least get
all of my money back so I'll sell it for $15 or best offer.

Hey Mike Bahr - when can we start placing orders for Precious Things?

Lemur Voice - I definately have to give a nod to these guys. Pretty
good stuff!! I like them more than other DT-esque bands that I have
heard (Shadow Gallery, Angra) and only a little more than Ivanhoe.
Ivanhoe is definally cool - alot like I&W's era DT (my favorite era).
I've heard a few sound clips of Superior and they sound excellent.
Where is the cheapest place to get their CD?
Did we ever hear the proper pronounciation of Lemur Voice?

I want to apologize for starting this whole flame war thing. Had i known that that joke would piss off so many people, i never would have posted it. I would have replied earlier, but I have been gone, and my jams have piled up. I have not read many of the posts on this subject (I still have about 20 back issues unread), but both sides have good points from what I have read. Racism is a horrible thing, and nothing can excuse it. But on the other side, it was just a fucking joke. Do you people write or e-mail to HBO or Showtime every time a comic makes a joke concerning an ethnic group, be it black, white, brown, green, turquoise, magenta, or fuscia? I try to find humor in everything I can, and sometimes it's inappropriate. This was one of those times. I am truly sorry for offending any of you, and please accept my apology. I like to think of all of you jammers as friends, and I don't want to alienate anyone. I meant absolutly no harm by that joke; I just wanted to put a little humor into your days. I guess I really fucked it up. For this I am truly, truly sorry. Having said that, all I want to say now is: LET'S TALK ABOUT SOME FUCKIN' DREAM THEATER FOR A CHANGE (of seasons;)!!!

Ooooh look, the perfect candidate for the Fates Warning listeners guide. Dr. Mosh, send one out immediately! I don't see where you get off saying they're not worthy of tuning JP's guitars though. Matheos could teach JP a thing or two about inserting melodic content in solos. Frank Aresti also has a very unique style which is great. I don't think it's fair to judge a band on one completely biased concert opinion, check out some of their stuff. Even if you don't like it it's certainly music you can respect on a high level. You're right that they're not deserving of their record contract though, they should be signed to a major label.

"i sit down with my son..blah blah..many years have come and gone..lived my life but now must move on.." ..well hes saying that even if he (the dude) dies.. his spirit will live on.. it has a LOT to do with that part of the lyrics..
