There was a small problem with Chris Merlo's WWW server, so the shirt
page was down for a while... But it's all up and running now, so those
of you that emailed me about it can head on back.
http://www.cclabs.missouri.edu/~c675311/ytsejam/
Also, I added a new link on there to all the nice things people are
saying about the shirts...
Yesterday I scanned in the actual shirts so people can see what a
production copy looks like, I'll try to get those edited and on the page
soon... I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks again to everyone who has ordered. :)

Do I get a twinkie if I answer correctly? Please?
An Epic (i.e. ACoS) consists of a song that sets a scene or an
overall theme unlike most songs. It is one song that tells a
specific story of heroism, sorrow, etc. Generally based on a
particular overall theme.
A Rock Opera tells a specific story about a specific chain of events.
Usually divided into several songs. Savatage does a lot of these.
I would throw Pink Floyd's the Wall, and QR's Operation: Mindcrime
in there. Les Miserables and other braodway musicals can go in
there, too. They aren't rock but I think that they rock!
Do I get my twinkie now? Please?

alive, was that certainly a Dew spitter! Six or seven years and yuo
still haven't found it and you're wondering if you're looking hard
enough? I'd say you're looking *too* hard. Maybe you're looking for
the song Rhyme of the Ambient Martyr, which doesn't exist. Hooooly
moooooly, was that a doozy (sp).
Ok...ehem...just had to get that out.
It's on Powerslave. You know the album that they did that HUGE
world tour for? Must have missed Venus though...

On the last jam some guy wrote this, but I was too lazy to scroll back and
catch his name:
>My drummer says that in the latest Modern Drummer mag, Mike Portnoy
>is shown or said or whatever to be playing StarClassics now. (which
>is made by Tama, his old endorsement). The FAQ still says Mapez. I
>just thought I'd bring this up. Is he shittin' me, am I right or is
>he just showing off for Tama and still playing Mapex?
Dude, your drummer is kinda right, but kinda wrong. You see, Tama makes
Mapex.... They're TAMA's top of the line, and StarClassics are the top of
the line Mapexes, so he's been a TAMA guy all along... And he uses killer
Sabian AX series cymbals... some guys have all the luck... and bucks for
that matter...
Here's the new sig... If it's too big, flame me, email me, whatever, and
I'll cut it down myself.

This is an interesting point. Originally, I didn't have a clue
what Gregoor was saying. At that point, not knowing the lyrics was of
no concern to me. However, after having read the lyrics, I became very
focused on that element of the music. As I said before, since I am a
singer and a guitarist, both of the elements have an equal weighting
for me. What can I say, I'm a crooner at heart. :)
>My friend is one who can't listen to instrumentals too much.
>Well, we all have our character flaws.
Why would that be a flaw? Lyrics give the listener a way to
interact with the music. No matter how lacking in vocal talent one
might be, there is always an intense enjoyment in singing along with
your favorite songs. I gave up air guitar in 1980 because the strings
became too expensive. :)

Hiya, kids@!
So, Dream Theater is playing Birch Hill. This is a good thing.
Syrinx will be in attendance to that show. This is a better thing.
WHO ELSE IS GONNA BE THERE?
with that question in mind, i'm gonna do an al balkowitz
(no, i'm not gonna fuck people over with trades) and do a get-together
before the birch hill show. NO, IT WILL NOT BE AT THAT STUPID DINER.
Where, then? I was thinking maybe my house. Dunno.
ANYWAY. If you're interested in a Syrinx/Birch Hill get together
beore the show, lemme know.
btw, i'm willing to let up to two people stay over the house
(given the folks' ok), so if mike bahr, bafu, d-boy, or any of you
out-of-towners needs a place to stay, lemme know, and you can stay here.
btw (part ii): if anyone needs rides from the surrouding
Philadelphia region to Birch Hill, e-mail me. I've got room for three
(cause the g/f just isn't gonna go to this).
ok. time to go to bed.

Okay, I am going to formally clarify my gripe about 'Band X Rokz Nadz'...
seems like I didn't explain myself very well and made it sound like that
anyone daring talk of any other bands and recommending them should go to
Ytse-Hell... well, no, that's not at all what I had in mind, quite the
opposite. It's just it seems that *EVERY* single person to buy a CD such
as Superior or Lemur Voice has to write in and tell everyone that they
were impressed by it... well, everyone keeps writing the same thing, and
I'm sure that Marcel and Bernd are very happy to see everyone being so
supportive of their work, but could you at least maybe be more specific as
to why you like something?
If you buy a CD and think that more people really need to know about it,
let us know by all means... tell us what you thought, tell us why you
were moved by the work, tell us why we should buy it... just don't tell
us 'It rocks!' and expect that to be very descriptive... my tastes are
not the same as your tastes...
Stuff I've picked up recently and would recommend:
Galactic Cowboys -- Feel the Rage: newest EP from these guys. Only 6
songs on it, including 2 covers, 1 old tune, 1 new tune, and 2 live tunes.
A good buy for someone who is already into GC (but then again, you
probably already have it), but not my first recommendation due to the
short length. The Cowboys sound pretty good live, and the covers are cool
even though I've never heard the originals.
Savatage -- Final Bell/Ghost in the Ruins: Tribute to Criss Oliva (RIP),
taken from around the late 80's with live tunes from their albums up to
Gutter Ballet. If you like Savatage with Jon singing, this album is a
must have. They do a fantastic job pulling everything off, and embellish
on the tunes somewhat. Tracks are taken from multiple shows and sources,
and sound quality throughout is excellent.
Lemur Voice -- Insights: Yes, Marcel and company rock... Akasha
Chronicles is probably my favorite track due to the aggressiveness it
takes on in parts. These guys remind me more of a Fates Warning or Shadow
Gallery than Dream Theater... I say Fates Warning because a lot of the
material seems kinda subtle to me, but once you get into it you are simply
amazed. Gregoor's voice is not very understandable, but this is my only
gripe... his tone and such are excellent.
So, there you have it... my latest three purchases, all of which I would
highly recommend. If I seem hypocritical in any way... well, I probably
am... just ignore it and post your reviews if you like. :)

Greetings folks...
This poor college student has fallen into impoverished times, and thus need
to sell off a couple things so I can afford to keep up with my painting
class (canvases and paints are NOT cheap!) and not run up triple digit IOUs
with my friends. So, I'm selling off a couple things for some greenage. I
have listed the *minimum* price that I will accept for each item, but the
highest offer gets the goodie.
#1: vinyl Queensryche: _The Warning_. I'm not sure what edition this is,
but it's old, not a new reprint; it was signed by the entire band when they
were at the House of Guitars in Rochester, NY around 1986. I paid a pretty
big chunk of change for it, and it's very much a collector's item, so I'm
not going to let it go cheaply. Minimum price: $60
#2: vinyl Queensryche: _Rage For Order_ Minimum price: $15
#3: vinyl Savatage: _The Dungeons Are Calling_ Minimum price: $15
#4: Dream Theater: Tragedy/Comedy (2CD set) Minimum price: $50
and...
#5: Subconscious (original CD) Minimum: well, let's just see what the
offers are for this one, but it won't be cheap either.
Email me with thy offers and/or inquiries...

Crimson Glory. I picked up "Transcendance" at that same
backwater Wherehouse in Lodi (CA) the other week. The singer's
voice gets a little too high for me only once or twice on the
disc, but this is the only complaint I have about it! There's
not a bad song on here. Very melodic metal. Sounds like
Queensryche meets Helloween meets Motley Crue. I even know what
the Kabbalistic symbol is on the inside sleeve though I've never
seen it with the Greek letters, only the Hebrew.

These two fucking hipocrits are the same idiots who had this stupid flame
fest going on where they would say these nasty things to each other on the
Jam and then get together at a bar and have a few drinks and talk about how
fucking clever they were. In the mean time we had to read this shit jam
after jam, for what seemed like an eternity. If anyone knows Frank or John
Cahill, tell them I said good fucking riddance!
More good news (for me)
I got my ticket for Rush at San Jose on Nov 20, and it's on Alex's side only
21 rows from the stage! Yay me! I know this sounds hipocritical of me
considering my feelings about Rush after the shit they pulled with the Magna
Carta tribute; but when I heard they were playing the song 2112 complete, I
had to go. There was no way in hell I was going to miss a once in a lifetime
opportunity like that!

Hey Jambros,
Just thought i'd share a piece of this article "The Cellist of Sarajevo" =
from the Nov. 96 issue of Reader's Digest:
On May 27, 1992, in Sarajevo, a mortar shell fell into the middle =
of the [bakery], killing 22 people...
Not far away lived a 35-year old musician named Vedran =
Smailovic...when he saw the carnage from the massacre outside his =
window, he was pushed past his capacity to absorb and endure any more. =
Anguished, he resolved to do the thing he did best: make music. Public =
music, daring music, music on a battlefield.
For each of the next 22 days, at 4pm, Smailovic put on his full, =
formal concert attire, took up his cello and walked out of his apartment =
into the midst of the battle raging around him. Placing a plastic chair =
beside the crater that the shell had made, he played in memory of the =
dead Albinoni's Adagio in G minor, one of the most mournful and haunting =
pieces in the classical repertoire. He played to the abandoned streets, =
smashed trucks, and burning buildings, and to the terrified people who =
hid in the cellars while the bombs dropped and bullets flew. With =
masonry exploding around him, he made his unimaginably courageous stand =
for human dignity, for those lost th war, for civilization, for =
compassion and for peace. Through the shellings went on, he was never =
hurt.
For those of you who have Savatage's Dead Winter Dead, the comparisons =
are obvious and chilling, the only differences being that he was not an =
"old" man, didn't play Mozart, and didn't die in the end. But other =
than that...for those of you who have DWD, you'll notice the =
similarities immediately. And for those who don't have it, get it. =
It's an incredible album!!!
Sorry if this is all common knowledge, but when you get your news from =
Reader's Digest, you can't quite be called "cutting edge." :-P And =
i know it's not DTC...but i just thought i'd share this piece that i =
found incredibly touching and amazing. I'm quite sure this story =
inspired Paul O'Neill's story on which DWD is based.
Thanks for reading...
