My sophmore P.E. teacher's name was Bill Hicks. You know, the kind
that made you do squats until you couldn't bend your legs anymore and
make you run laps till you puke. Hold down one nostril and blow snot
out the other, pick his ear with a key sort of guy. Is it me or are
    all P.E. teachers like this?

Bafu asked what the .sig at the end of Mythreindeer's post meant, and he
told me once. It is something like, "A light shines on our meeting." Or
    something close to that.

I just wanted to back up Bafu on this.one. I know that some of you on
the jam are friends with this guy, but when I met him at the con, he was
one of the most unfriendly people I met there. I won't miss this guy at
all. Actually, I'll bet both of these clowns will be back soon, once they
realize the mistake they made. Then again, maybe they really are that
    fucking stupid.....

First off, please don't put my name in the same sentence as scott's... Secondly, I get the impression you (and probably some others too) think I'm a YtseJerk waiting to flame someone's ass off... I'm not like that at all... I've been on this list for 11 months now, and it's not the same place it was when I joined... Whenever I see a post from someone who might make things even worse, I can't help 'responding'... Sorry... At least *my* intentions are to make things better on the 'Jam... Btw, I will always love this list for being part of the reason why I finally checked out Tori Amos early this year :-) Just thought I'd mention that :-)

Whats up people, This week's show (student radio at the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx) was by far my most enjoyable one because I finally got a legitimate request!!! (not some turd asking for Green Day)...What happened was I had just given an intro. to GAMMA RAY's "Land of the Free" (history and stuff, etc.) and was about 30 sec. into the song when the phone in the studio rang and the guy asked for a request. Already prepared for the worst I said "shoot", he goes , "How 'bout some more GAMMA RAY?" Now since I had given up on my brain-dead audience so far i thought this was just a joke from one of my classmates who thinks that "prog" is just a city in Europe. I said, "Yeah, ha ha...real funny!!" He was like," Umm, no I mean it, do you have GAMMA RAY?" I wanted to test him so I said what album (something only fans would know) and he said, "you have "Sigh No More"?..Kai Hansen is my favorite guitarist!" I nearly dropped the phone when I heard that...Yes!! There is hope for America after all!! I asked him how he knew them and all that good stuff! He said, "You're the only DJ I've ever heard that plays this...I don't know anyone else who is into this!" I thought that was awesome! What was funny was that he was just getting into the music and said," I wish they had more albums" and then I told him that GAMMA RAY had about 6-7 other releases and he flipped. Then I asked him if he had HELLOWEEN's "Walls of Jericho" and "Keepers 1 & 2" and he said (I'll never forget this!!) "Wait..you mean the holiday Halloween..who are they?" Ahh..the glory of discovery! He then said ,"You know STRATOVARIUS..they have a great guitarist" I was like, "Yep..I have all five" He asked about DREAM THEATER and RAGE (of all bands)..I just couldn't believe what I was hearing...At the most I expected someone to request QUEENSRYCHE or something...not friggin' GAMMA RAY or STATOVARIUS!!!! This is America after all and this music isn't exactly the most popular shit on the air waves ya know! I predict that in 5 years I WILL see GAMMA RAY and BLIND GUARDIAN on US soil. I can dream damnit!!!!

us all being dt fans someone saying wich cd is better awake are images , most people would say well there both dt cds and there both the best and who could you even say that! Well im trying to break open the music and see witch one was truly better in my opinion on awake james labrie voice is much better he not only uses his high voice but he tries out the lower and heavier side of his voice , they also use the heavy palm muting like on caught in a web , lie and the mirror wich i also like better , but when it comes right down to it i think images is a better cd i think it is put together better and the insturmentals are mush better like on take the time , in the middle they have a great instrumental , i love that part. and on learning to live all the song is put together great with the time sigs changing rapidly through the whole song making very complicating , and someting that isnt done by many groups , some of the sigs they use are 15/8 14/8 7/8 10/4 9/4 wich they are constantly switching back and forth . learning to live has that great part where the piano plays the part from wait for sleep and then the rest of the band comes in , that is the coolest part in the whole cd. in images they also put together the songs more like chopan , are bathovan would . i rate images on a scale from 1-10 a 10 and awake a 9.999999999999999999 . i hope the new cd is a mixture between the 2.any opinions on the cds?

Ok, everyone, I haven't really gotten much of a response to the con idea. I have a feeling that this is because not many of you are going to the Poughkeepsie show, either because it's too far away, or you don't know where it is, or you just can't make it there on a wednesday night. Let me tell you that Poughkeepsie is just a couple of hours north of New York City. If you have teh money, I would reccomend going to as many Christmas shows as you can, as they are playing new materials and have been known to change their setlist night by night. Also, The Chance is really a good club. It's small, it's intimate, and you can almost always meet the bands that play there after the show. For anyone like myself who was unable to go to the holiday shows last year because they are under 18, the age limit at The Chance is 16, but they do not ID you unless you are going to be drinking. I hope that some more people want to come to the show and possibly a little get together before it. If I don't get too many people to show, I guess myself and the few people that are interested in this idea will just meet and hang out for an hour or two before the show. ======================================================================== Andy Miller:I'm one of the Andy Millers Me: Hi. Michael Kizer, You wrote in the last jam wanting to know the best place to see DT. I went to see them at the Birch Hill last year and I felt it was an amazing show. A friend that went with me saw them the night before and said they were better in the Birch Hill. When I talked to Portnoy at Derek's party he even said he like the Birch Hill the best of all the Christmas shows. Just be ready to get squashed in the crowd wherever you go. I'm going to the Birch Hill this year again. Well, it is the closest to me too. Any questions? e-mail me.

Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!! I had my real-life guitar wet-dream last night! WE MISSED VAI!!!! God damn the fucking traffic in NY!!! SF isn't even that bad. But oh well. Eric was amazing. Joe sucked at first and then played some good stuff IE. Surfing. Not very creative endings, though. Every one of them was first one end power-chord-drum-roll-wank-off-solo and then another final chord. That gets boring after a while. When Eric busted into cliffs, I could have creamed in my jeans right there. But I have two words for anyone: Stew Ham. What the fuck?!!!!! I've never heard such an awesome bass solo! He makes McAlpine's bassist look stupid. Jesus! I don't play bass, but I know that that shit was just as impressive as Satriani's best solo of the night. That man is amazing. The end jam was pretty good, too. I loved how they all played "Red House." Eric and Joe really oughtn't sing so much though. Could someone who's heard MacAlpine, Moore, and the g3 boys please email privately and tell me what to look for in Satriani's stuff? I'm a shred phan, but I don't see why Joe is so amazing. I think Vai and Johnson play him under the table. I don't want to start a flame war, but please gently guide me. OK. Too much band width wasted. Be well and take care. Matt B

I was at Mulcahy's the other night and they didn't have any info about the Dream Theater show.

    A few observations:

1- This place has less floor space than Birch Hill. It's mainly a sports bar, so they leave a sports game on the monitors (which are all over) during the band's performance. Not really that annoying if it's an important game :) The place is pretty big, but the bar areas take up about 75% of the club.

2- They told me that ALL shows at Mulcahy's are 21 and over.

3- They have tons of security. I'm not sure if this is always the case since Marshall Tucker was playing and maybe they were expecting a rowdy crowd. I did notice that most of the place was drunk even before the opening band went on.

    4- It's only 5 minutes from my house :)

Hey all, You can always count on the important information showing when you have too much homework. I skipped the Jam for a few days and I missed all of the news on the December shows. So, I ask any of you out there who care to help...What is the info on getting tix for the shows? When do they go (or have they already gone) on sale? Are there phone numbers for ordering? I checked the "lifting Shadows" web page but it is a bit slim on real info. Thanks all. Adios, Allen K. akarger@bu.edu

As of right now, we don't know. There are reports to the 7th or the 14th. I assume we should wait a week and see what happens. I'll call Birch Hill in the middle of next week to see if they have any answers.
