By my standards, Erotomania is not a "tone poem". Tone poems are works
that tell a story. Things like 1812 by Tchaikovsky are often thought of
as tone peoms. I (and I do mean myself only) dont think E, without
V and TSM, tells a story. Sorry if you think it does....

Hey, I'm from Holland and here we have a symphonic progressive rockband
called "The Gathering". I was wondering, are they as well-known in other
European countries or perhaps in the US as here in Holland? They are pretty
good, though. They have this female singer, who has a great voice, two
guitars, bass, drums and lots of keyboards (YES!). They brought out an album
called "Mandylion" about a year ago. Before that, they were more into
heavier metal (with male grunt, I believe). Their best-known songs are
Strange Machines, Leaves, Eleanor, all from ther latest album.

I just got back from New York, after doing some interviews and gathering
information and material for the next issue of the Fan Club magazine, and I have
a some of bits of info that need amending:

    1) I posted a week or so ago that the lyrics to the two latest songs completed:
Peruvian Skies and Trial Of Tears, were written by John Myung and John
Petrucci respectively. Sorry folks, I got them mixed up, it should be the
other way round. This became apparent whilst interviewing JP at his new
home. And you should see the new piece of hardware he has just acquired
(pictures in the next issue and probably also on show in December!).

    2) The Birch Hill date on the 14th is going to be moved, probably to the 7th, as
it clashes with the Rush show close by on the same date. And as both
bands would attract basically the same audience, it was decided to change
it. When things have been finalised, I will bring you the details.

That's it for now, oh and by the way, you are gonna LOVE the new material, it is
    awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool gig: Cathedral headlining, supported by Black Star (containing
some ex-members of Carcass) and Anathema.

Anathema really impressed me . . . I will buy something of theirs soon.

The lead singer of Cathedral, Lee Dorian, is very scary. He does weird
things with his eyes, and he sticks his tongue out quite often.

Okay, I barely post, and I only have Streets up for Savatage stuff, but, well,
for the argument of who is better, it depends on the song. for an emotional,
gritty song, Jon Oliva is better, in my opinion. listen to Dead Winter Dead,
the album. some of those songs, where Jon sings, it fits. now, for more
melodic songs, Zak is better, again, in my opinion. yes, I am using only one
album to compare the 2, but, then again, they both sang on the album, so you
are hearing them both from the same time span...after all, Geddy Lee has proven
how a voice can change over years, so has James Hetfield.
yes, it may sound all disorganized, it is, kind of. I was up late watching
the Yankees win again (YES!), and so I am now half asleep. but, had to express
    my feelings about this subject.

Since this seems to have popped up a few times, I thought I might post the

I found my TSO at BlockBuster. The one I went to had a special section set up
    for seasonal (aka Christmas) music.

    Fellow Jammers--

I would just like all sellers to know that, had I the cash, I would outbid
everyone in the race for every DT CD. But I haven't, so I cannot, and
therefore will not... (I have a speeding ticket to pay for, and auto
insurance, car registration, skewlbuks, *doh!*) 8)
However, if Mike Bahr would email me privately, I would like to discuss
base-price transactions with him for newer stuff.

Well I'm a little late observing/replying again, but not for long. I've
deleted all the 'jams in my mailbox up to #1966. If anyone asked me any
questions between YJs #1955-1965, e me plea.

This is another "negative" post. I hope it doesn't make anyone cry, and I

Between the band recommendations, the tips on how to clean one's guitar, hearing about cd/t-shirt projects and getting a foot in the door (and this is all just from the last two weeks, folks), not to mention the occasional tablature that pops up here and there and the recent discussion on time changes and what constitutes a "song" (that's called "interaction"), I don't see how I could stop learning from this mailing list.

Mithrandir, on the other hand, has some kind of clouded vision/mind.

    > I am glad that DT was not at the con, since it sucked.

I guess none of his "friends!" had a hand in organizing the con. Jeff Chew, this is your thanks from Mithrandir. He sounds somewhat tense. In fact, he sounds like he needs to release some tension. Someone call Mojoman.

    > I have made some friends here, and I'm sure I have made some enemies, > but I have no regrets.

No regrets? Not even the fact that the few friends you actually made on this list who didn't know you beforehand in real life now consider you a backstabber of sorts with your eloquent goodbye? Yeah, you hate this list, the con sucked, there is no "useful" information here... I believe Mr. White said it best when he said, "Blah blah fuckin' blah." You have no regrets because you've eliminated the importance from everything you could possibly care about relating to this list.

    > If you want to keep in touch, please by all means E-mail me.

Oh, sure, talk to you real soon. I thought you were rude when you got here and I still do. You'll always be a newbie in my book regarless of how well you know the band or it's history or how long you've been on this mailing list. Why? To this day you still don't understand that communication is not a one-way street. You have yet to learn the meaning of "interaction." This is a trait displayed by most people when they first join mailing lists, and for the first time they sudenly find themselves in a continual conversation with several hundred other people. This takes some time to get used to, heck I hated this form when I first joined, but I adapted and actually learned how to make it work. You did not. You have not. This is why you have become so dissatisfied and frustrated with the Ytsejam.

    > Thanks and take care.

Since this is probably the last time we're going to see this line (unless someone puts it in their .sig), can someone PLEASE tell me what it means? A direct translation is okay, but how is this phrase supposed to express "farewell?"

Hi, I know I'm not supposed to do this, because someone said it was Bad responding to old mails. So am I going to be flamed, for having a job? To start with Dream Theater, then you busy ones can skip the rest, I want to give my comment on the aCoS. I completely agree with the ones that are saying they like the "bootleg"-versions more. I find this new one too produced! It is better done, I can tell you that, but in some sense it has lost its soul. If we have to keep up with a group of perfectionists, don't give them too much time, in other words: Give me the new CD now! Do any of you "new" Dt-fan feel the same about aCoS? Perhaps it's just because we vets (I've been around since -92) have heard the original version and fallen in love with that one, and due to that this new is something like a cover. I agree with DrX as well, when he said that he's tired of too short comments of the CD you've just bought. If you just have heard something new, could you then specify what you're feeling about it, and refer to other groups, and not just say:"This is awasome!". A little vague to spend $20 on! Well, I'm gonna be better myself here. What do you think of my way of compressing the typing. I'm trying to save bandwidth (,not that I really understand why it's so important. Are you paying per bit or something). If you want to save bandwidth, mind the signatures! And to all of you typing without paragraphing, unfortunately they go directly into my drain. They're too dificult to read. Please, do like 5 lines, then paragraph. Finally I think Mojoman/Mithrandir and Mindcrimer really had something to say. I don't agree, but we must think of what we are typing, and if it is of any interest to ALL, and can't go private. And it is nice to find a "sober" view of DT, since we're too deep down, to even dare to criticize them. If you really ask yourself, you'll find out if you like DT, or if you just want to like DT. Ok, that'll be all for today, class. And don't forget to do your homework well, until next time, See you all -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Henrik Gustafsson henrik@thn.htu.se Quality deployer +46(0)520-47 50 49 [fax +46(0)520-47 50 99]

If there are any folks located in and around the Providence area who intend on going to BOTH the December shows at The Strand and Birch Hill, NJ, please let me know!! I'm going to school in Wisconsin now and if possible, I'd like to fly into Providence and go to that show, then drive with that special someone down to NJ the for the following night at Birch Hill, and finally scurry on back to Providence to catch a flight back to beautiful Madison. If anyone who intends on doing this wouldn't mind having a little company from a fellow Jammer, please get ahold of me ASAFP!!

    Thanks so much...

    Hey!

I was at a CD store yesterday and they had a boot CD of the second night of the Metallica Fan Club only show at Slim's in SF from June 10, 1996. Since we have many Metallica fans on the Jam I thought I'd offer it up for a possible tape tree. The set was approx. :100 long and has an extra song that they didn't play the first night. I don't have a DAT deck, but the master is an audience recording from a DAT and the quality is EXCELLENT! The store I bought it at lets you listen before you buy, or else I wouldn't have paid the $50 for it.

What I'd like to do is I would get four or five people to send me tapes with SASE and I would dub the tapes and send them back to them. Then those people would make copies for two people. If I get more requests than that then we would make the tree larger. It all depends on how many requests I get. I realize this isn't the Metallica list, but there are many Metallica fans here, and most people on the Ytsejam have been good to me over the last year and this is a small way of me to show my appreciation.

Here is the setlist: So What, Creeping Death, Sad But True, Ain't My Bitch, Whiplash, Fade To Black, King Nothing, One, Until It Sleeps, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, Last Caress (with Jim Martin, ex-FNM), Master of Puppets (first Half), Overkill, Motorbreath.

I'm not on the Jam at this time, so PLEASE email me PRIVATELY! I'll give it a few days and send an update on Monday.

    Scott
