    Fellow Jammers,
I would like to go to at least one of the DT shows in Dec., preferably
Birch Hill. If someone would be so willing as to purchase a ticket for me
via their credit card, I would pay you via check. I'm assuming the
quickest and only way to order these tickets is by credit card, and I don't
have one unfortunately. So, if you are planning on purchasing tickets,
would someone buy one for me and I'll gladly pay you back? Someone please
get it touch with me; I'd like to make it to Birch Hill!

    Hi jammers !

Being the biggest Kevin Moore fan in Europe I wanted to
let you know that I recently read an interview with
Kev in the november issue of "Rock Hard" magazine. It was
the first interview since his departure from DT.

He says that his album will be out in spring '97.
I also mailed him and hope to get an answer soon.

I got my page updated so here's my URL (if anyone is interested):
    http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e8825527/

    Take care,
    Wolf.

Just in case enough people have not posted already, tickets for the
show at Toads in Hardford have already gone on sale. Tickets are
$12.50, but I ended up having to pay 18.05 with TM charges. I also
tried to purchase the tickets on-line w/ TM, but their secure server
took _forever_ to reply. (I called TM, waited on hold, and ordered
    the tickets before it responded).

Anyway, can't wait for the upcoming shows... Rush, DT...

I just called Ticketbastard and the guy told me that his computer says that the Birch Hill tix don't go on sale until this Sat, Nov 2nd. The price is $12.50 each, but I don't think that includes any of the wacky service charges.

Please let me know if someone finds a way to get the tickets any sooner.

Jammerz-- Come on guys... I've only gotten in 13 votes on the survey... In order for this to work, I have to get at least 50 more votes than the number of existing DT songs. Send in your votes!!! So far, Learning To Live is in the lead with a whole 3 votes of the 13. Remember, only songs from the commercial releases are accepted in the survey: WDADU, I&W, Awake, ACOS (no fair with bootlegs, because I won't know what you're talking about.) or Live at the Marquee.

I was watching a special on MTV and I caught the last 5 minutes of it. They were showing videos of the 80's and showed Cinderella, Twisted Sister, and Lita Ford/Ozzy Osbourne. I caught the part where Lita Ford was saying 'a lot of people don't like rap or alternative, and they just want to hear some good ol rock-n-roll.' With Kiss making a comeback and Van Halen staying hip (thanks to MTV), could this mean metal will come back. I don't know but it all depends on what MTV does, IMO.

Anyone seen the whole show and can tell me what other bands or people they interviewed?

    Thanks,

    Walter.

    >From: "LRW" <sir@micron.net> >Subject: Accoustic guitarists > >Can anybody recommend some cool accoustic stuff along the lines of Al >DiMeola. I always like to have some around in case I get in an acoustic >mood. What's up with Michael Hedges? What kind of stuff does he play? I'll just step up and say I'm one of the heaviest guitar album buyers on the jam... maybe by a long shot. There are few that I have heard of that I don't own. This is not to brag... this is just to say that I can tell you a lot about some better acoustic players. First, if you haven't gotten Live in San Fran by DiMeola, McLaughlin, and DeLucia, buy it. You can also get the studio version (sort of) which is called Passion Grace and Fire. Both shred. You ask about Michael Hedges? He is (whether you like him or not, if you've seen anything he's done... vids, boots... concerts) the most frightening player out there on a guitar with holes in it. His techniques are about as difficult as it gets. My girlfiend <Grin> once commented that it was like playing piano on guitar... this is true to a point.... but it's much more difficult. He plays two seperate parts at once, using some bizzare tapping techniques. He DOES NOT SHRED. If you're interested, buy Aerial Boundaries. That's got the widest variety of his styles. If you don't like that, don't buy anything else he's done. The depth in his compositions reminds me of the sort of sould apparent in For the Love of God by Steve Vai (which is not similar to anything Hedges does in any other way). You can also buy a video from Windham Hill called "In Concert" that has five songs he plays.... the rest of the video sort of blows. His performances are fantastic there... but if you don't like his voice you won't like two of the songs of the video. Another decent guitarist is Jesse Cook. It's sort of like... Ottmar Leibert if he were at all interesting. Jesse's on Narada, Michael is on Windham Hill, and Al is on a couple of labels. I think the Live stuff is on Sony (I have the gold master edition... got it at Best Buy for $17.99.) check it out. Mail me for any more suggestions.

    >I got a disc from someone named Brendt Steidl which is pretty cool. I think >of it as Yngwie unplugged. Bernd is a good guitarist. I'd consider it more of Paul Gilbert unplugged because of all the string skipping. Yanni fans will like this album for his music, more than the playing. He shreds up a hail storm but lacks somewhat in dynamics. All of these songs are classically influenced... sometimes borrowing directly from Paganini's compositions ( I believe it's implied that you are supposed to be able to tell they are, since some of the stuff is note for note). Great bass and drums. Very Yanni Like key programming. This is a good album overall, I just with he could play with more emotion. Available on Shrapnel. I finally got to meet good ol' MP.

I went to his clinic in Denver on Sunday, and I'm telling you, it rocked. A lot of what he said made so much sense that I am still baffled. He didn't get to do a lot of good talking because it seemed like everyone had some stupid question. But what can you do.

The bad news was that I caught the flu on the same day, so as soon as the clinic let out, I ran to the bathroom and threw up. Standing in line for an autograph was more like sitting in line for an autograph. When I gave him my copy of Antiquities to sign, he asked me if I was on the jam, and my response was almost garbled by my need to pass out. So, therefore it ruled and sucked at the same time. He probably thought that I was baked out of my mind.

A lot of people from my school's drumline were also there, and our winter percussion piece is going to be Metropolis. As I was passed out on the floor, the other guys asked MP if he has any advice for us. He was really excited about this, and asked us to send him a copy once we did it. MP is really one of the coolest guys around.

I'm feeling a lot better now, and I hope to meet MP again sometime soon. Maybe I can prove that I'm not some coke fiend.

Hey, everybody. As I anxiously await getting my tickets to DT and/or Rush on DEc. 14th, I thought I'd bring this up on the jam:

My band is playing our debut this coming Saturday night (Nov. 2). We'll be at Kenny's Castaways in the Village, if anybody's interested. It's at 157 Bleeker Street (corner of Bleeker and Thompson). The phone number there is (212)979-9762. We are the first of 4 or 5 bands that night, and the cover is only $5.00. We're no DT, but if anybody's not busy on Saturday night, come on out! (I'll be the goof behind the drum kit wearing a DT shirt). If you come, please tell the people at the door that you're there to see "Culture of Dispair" Sorry for the lack of DTC. -Adam

Birchhill WILL NOT SELL OUT!! No shows at Birchhill ever sell out, that is there policy. They will always offer tickets to anyone. This does not mean wait until a week before and make the phone call, this does not mean that you can just show up an expexct to get in, plan ahead. Last year at the Birchhill (last winter) I got my tickets about a week before over the phone, and some of the guys we went up with got them at the door, they over sell the place, good stuff for a Dateline or Police investgation, but better stuff (depending how you look at it) for DT fans. Sorry Mike this time you were wrong.

Everybody, please, do yourself a favor and buy KEY'S TO ASCENSION, this is without a doubt the best YES album since DRAMA. Steve and Chris have made huge come backs. Between me and you I never thought I would like Chris over Tony Levin ever again (you know since the whole ABWH thing) but Chris once again plays like it's DRAMA or something. I thing a big factor of it is the fact that he is back to exclusive us of the Rickenbocker Bass.

One last thing, and you heard it here first, DT will NOT play ACOS this winter. Thanks and goodnight!

If you like acoustic guitar, Windham Hill has many of the best. Michael Hedges' style is somewhat different. He often plays a harp guitar (if you've never seen one, check out the cover of Steve Howe's 'Beginnings' CD/LP; it's the funky wide-body that looks partially like a harp/uses harp strings; has an interesting history-originated in the Straussian waltz era). Hedges also sometimes plays with Shadowfax. Also check out Will Ackerman (sp?). Windham Hill has many very good new-age/fusion/jazz artists. Many of them are excellent, but unheard of outside the esoteria.

If you like Al DiMeola, check out his duo/trio acoustic albums with the likes of Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin, etc.

Also, can anyone out there identify the CD called "Open Your Eyes" by a group called 'Majesty'. Anyone we know? Found it in my recently-arrived Dream Disc catalog. (219-347-8080, FAX 219-347-8895). They carry a lot of imports/hard-to-find domestics, including Shadow Gallery's first (before Carved in Stone) and a lot of the other prog-metals mentioned on the JAM, but which I can't seem to find in any store/online CD source.

I've also been on King's X GRETSCHEN for awhile, and I haven't received any postings for 3-4 weeks.

Does anyone out there know anything about 'Nickel Bag': they sound a lot-at least what I've heard-like KX-GC-AO.

Recent CD's Majesty; DT; Lemur Voice; Shadow Gallery; Extreme; King's X; Atomic Opera
