At this point, Brian, you need to do a few things:

    1: Find Charlie.
2: Get him on the jam.
3: Give me his address so he can sign my WDADU. :)
4: Follow steps #1-3 until he does it.

    Hi everyone,

Just like to say that I too picked up Test for Echo, and well, what
can I say ? I think it's better than Counterparts though, with a
couple of good songs on it. My favourites are Test for Echo, Driven &
    Time and Motion.

Also picked up the new REM (pretty good, far better than their
previous release, Monster). I also picked up Relish by Joan Osbourne
(makes a great change from all the progressive shit hehe). I also
picked up 3 Tori Amos singles. She actually made me buy female rock
(well, wouldn't call Tori rock though).

It's about a year I posted my latest message, so you can look forward
to my next message next year around the same time I guess.

I mentioned the Detroit prog band in my last message and promised a
review when I had gotten into the CD. Well, here goes. The band itself is
a basic 4 piece: vox, guitar, bass, and drums. The singer, Paul Rarick,
has a range most like Geddy's in the 2112 era, but without the grating shrill
overtones. His voice is VERY smooth and easy to get into. The guitarist,
Chris Herin, is extremely talented and like it says in one of the reviews
printed in their newsletter, he's an Eric Johnson-style tone freak. Most of
his tones are pretty clean, at times reminding me of Satriani, Johnson, and
Lifeson. He throws in a little distortion and rocks out full blast on the
last two tracks. The bass is played by a guest musician, Kevin Chown, who
also produced the CD, so you can be sure that the bass is NOT low in the mix.
He has a nice smooth tone and some spectacular bouncy rhythms, esp. in the
first track, Analysis Paralysis, and the bridge in the sixth track, Dancing
Dogs. He has since been replaced by a student of his, Jeff Whittle. The
drums are played by Mark Evans who lays down some great rhythms and fills.
Overall, the band sounds most like Enchant or some recent Rush.
Anyone interested in hearing what they sound like can call their toll-
free line at 1-800-676-2604 and catch some updated info, ordering info, and
some tracks from the CD. They have a web page which I have not seen at
http://www.rust.net/~tiles and an email address at tiles@rust.net. The CD
can be had for the low low price of $11.99 + S/H and they are clearing out
the casstte version of the same at $5 with NO S/H. You can also pick up
that limited edition French comp. CD from them with DT, FW, Shadow Gallery,
and others direct from the band for $15 + S/H. The reviews published in
their newsletter are all more eloquent than mine, and for the most part,
excellent and positive. (They threw in some negative reviews in the interest
of objectivity and very few of those strike me as intelligent.) Check
these guys out. They will be a part of a Detroit prog show hopefully
sometime in late Sept. or Nov. I will post updates for those interested as
I hear about it. Let me know what you think if you pick this CD up!

I think when someone acheives SO much sucess SOOOOOOOO fast there's always a certain amount of people that'll resent the artist for that. I think she's really good and if I could write a song like 'You oughtta Know' I would. Some bands write songs so incoherently that you can't figure out what the hell they're trying to say, but I had NO problem understanding what she was thinking there! :)

He's soooooo stubborn he says Lars Ulrich is THE best and no one's greater than him. The same goes with Kirk Hammet. To him, there's no better drummer than Metallica's or guitarrist or bassist or anything from Metallica for that matter. I've been trying to get him to listen to DT but, you know how those people are. Anyways, anyone that feel the urge to tell him something, please do. So everyone that's bored right now mail him. His address is felo@fgallery.com see if you can help me get him into dt. Oh and if you want to flame him, well go ahead too. I warned him about saying such things publicly :)

I just got a reply from Chris Herin about my review. He included a little up to date info on the band that I thought might be interesting. First, the Motor City ProgShow will probably be delayed until Feb. or March, so anyone interested in a road trip to see some brand new prog bands will have a little longer to plan ahead. The other bit of news is that Tiles has secured Terry Brown (umm...AMAZING mixer!) to mix their next album due out on Jan. 21. I just called that 1-800 number for the music samples and I must say that the phone lines just do not do the band justice. Their sound is very smooth and far, far better than what you can hear from the samples. Just a reminder, let me know what you think of the CD if you pick it up. I'll pass the word along to Chris!

(IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE SEEING THIS POST, PLEASE READ IT THROUGH COMPLETELY, THERE IS ALOT OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION)

    Hey All ....

Here is my new weekly posting about how to get the most (or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session. I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be weekly.

To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:

Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:

    asdf

In the body of the message put:

    subscribe ytsejam Your Name

replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg). You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon as possible.

To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in: There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:

Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:

    asdf

In the body of the message put:

    set ytsejam mail ack

    OR

    set ytsejam mail digest

If you have any problems, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com.

To get off the Dream Theater Mailing List:

Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:

    asdf

In the body of the message put:

    unsubscribe ytsejam

You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours. If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon as I can.

To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:

There are many files kept by the mailing list server. The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will see what I can do. There are also other files kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates, The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others. Any time I add something I usually send a post to the jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the files available from the server:

Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:

    asdf

In the body of the message put:

    index ytsejam

This will send you a list of all the files available from the server. To retrieve one of these files:

Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:

    asdf

In the body of the message put:

    get ytsejam filename

In place of filename, put the name of the file you want.

    Basic Rules:

There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.

    1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule you should all try to follow is to think before you post.

    2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very nice.

    3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past. If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to private email, anyone continuing the discussion will recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind Melon, bands selling out, etc.

    4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it may be more useful than posting to the jam.

    5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around, and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way. I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis, so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the time, I will get back to you eventually.

Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!
