I think everyone who likes Rush would have still bought the tribute. Even
if I didn't like Rush annd DT wasn't on the album I would still buy it
because of all the others on the album...

MY GOD!! Being an Eric Johnson enthusiast, I patiently waded
through my 9:00 class yesterday before hustling down to the nearest
record dealer to pick up "Venus Isle". I am so damn impressed with
Eric's direction that it's hard to believe that Rush has a new one
in just one week!! I'm pretty taken with all the new tracks after
four or five listens, and although the only halfway near track to
"cliffs of Dover" would have to be maybe "Pavillion", the tones
created on the record are just moving! Check this one out folks, it's
    sure to be a classic!!

I don't think I've ever heard a jazz improv tune that sounds like DT.
Maybe fusion is what your thinking. Anyways, I'd just as soon call
it rock improv, if it was IMPROVISED. Bombay Vindaloo has a few
improvised sections, but it's very structured. The players aren't
feeding off each other's improvisation... they just change licks
    around here and there.

I don't believe for a second that one of those things was improvised.
What's a pre-arranged improv? Like writing the music before you
    improvise it (?)

I have heard almost every Queensryche release. Please tell me where you
hear rip offs. Not the vocals. The guitarists are too technical to
rip off QR. Same with the Drums. Must be the bass. :)

to the guy who said he disliked the cairo cd:

    i totally agree.

the thing about bands like cairo and enchant is that their sound
is very over-produced and lacks any raw edge or power.
it sounds, dare i say it, POPPY. that's what makes bands like
d.t., s.g., and other similar bands so much more appealing (at
least to me): they're not afraid to leave an edge and actually
give their music some raw feeling, instead of making it so polished
that it sounds like it came out of a factory.

just my take on cairo. their music just strikes me as very hollow.

    later,
    matt.

First off, what's the deal with certain people coughKURTcough quoting
like 20 lines of material to reply to only the last sentence? We
have the jams. We probably know what yer talking about. Not a
flame. Hey... I'd say the same thing about Digital Man if he weren't
    so god damn amusing,.

Now, Rush fans, listen. Listen good. I'm not sure if this
interview is syndicated, but tomorrow on Rock 103.5 (not a metal
station by any stretch of the imagination... nor even a good station)
in Chicago is playing the new Rush album along with about _2_ hours
of a Rush interview. They wen't to Canada to talk to RUSH. A RADIO
STATION! A BIG ONE! Anyways, this is a new interview, about the new
album, and some interesting news about Neil Peart from what I hear.
If this is syndicated, FIND it locally. If not, I will TRY to tape
it. It starts at 9:00 PM, and at that point I'm working in a
building with lots o computers, so the sound quality may suck. But I
will try to tape it, and I will pass it on to some more people.
    Thought I'd keep ya informed!

            I have a question.

Is it just me or do you often find yourself singing out loud
during boring patches the New DT songs off the next album (TNA) (like for
example, the other day I found myself singing that so far unheard song
"You or Me". I remember someone said how James sings repedetely in the
chorus "You or Me, you or me, you or me". So, I was trying to figure out
how that goes.) even though you haven't heard a note of it?

            No?

            Nevermind.

BTW, today I saw some guy witha "XANADU" license plate.
    Interesting.....

Interesting dog name of the day: Deee-Oh-Gee. Think about it :)

    >Ivanhoe,

I would suggest avoiding these guys like the plague. I can't
stand the CD. It comes across to me as an attempted rip off of DT with
very strained and annoyingly high pitched vocals and a guitarist who
just can't cut it playing progressive metal. If I hadn't bought it as
an import, I would be willing to sell it right this second

    Cheers,

I take it you did the right thing and snuffed out his "waste
    of flesh" life instantly?
Animal abusers should get the goddamn death penalty. If I ever
encounter anyone doing anything like that here, I'll kill them in the
    name of a species cleansing.

I contacted Anthem Records directly and their response was
that it was a contractual problem between Magna Carta and parties
representing the band. They then added that they could be no more
specific at this time and wished me a good day.

    >it that personally? i bet they get the new RUSH album, being fans
    >themselves.

That's hard to say. How would you like to build a monument to
a family member as a tribute, and be told to destroy it because that
    person was still alive?

    >one last question to those boycotting TfE: would you be boycotting
    >the new RUSH album, Test for Echo, if members of Dream Theater did NOT
    >participate in the tribute album??
    >
    >i submit you wouldn't.

As I've said before, I've been buying Rush for 23 years. I
will boycott the new record and DT had nothing to do with the
    decision.
