>to go PISS ON COBAIN'S GRAVE. but they were innovaters.
Oh, do tell me how either of those two are innovators. There have
been sloppy guitarists that play little else than type I or II barre
chords and fifths since long before those guys were born. I would
really like to know what makes players like them innovative. Could
it be that they're innovative because they played their music when
MTV saw the possibility to create a trend? Or do you honestly
believe that it's the artists that create the trend, and not the
companies with the $$$ and the people who give the exposure?
Innovative implies doing something new.
But shit... we're not talking about these bands on a progressive list
again, are we?

Subject: Willing to send people wave files of the following bands.
Message-ID: <199609212130.PAA14165@mail.usa.net>
All Jammers: I realize that there are alot of bands that people want
to get into but don't want to take the chance on buying the CD's in
case they hate them. Anyway, I'm record some wave files of the
following bands, and so if anyone is interested in certain ones,
please let me know and I'll email them to ya...I'll probably zip them
up so that I can make them a little longer, at least a minute anyway.
Don't explect super great quality since those tend to take up more
physical drive space and take alot longer to send... I think I can
limit them to under 1.5 megs. Anyway, below are a listing of some of
the bands that some may be interested in. I'll try to record wave
files that best represent the bands overall sound
****************************************
Angra - "Holy Land"- Very Good, kind of reminds me of helloween a little, but
more classical influences, Great singer!, and progy at times.
Watchtower - "Control and Resistance" - a progressive metal band with
ALOT and I do mean ALOT of time changes. I would know the perfect
wave file for this one ( : , singer can be annoying though.
Shadow Gallery - "Self Titled" - not as polished as "Carved in
Stone", but a DAMN good first album. I love it.
Gamma Ray - "Land of the Free" - These guys have always been one of
my favorites. I explain these guys as prog meets opera metal. Very
big choruses. This is there best CD!
Morgana Lefay - "The Secret Doctrine" - Although these guys aren't
progressive, they are pretty intense power metal, with a singer who
sounds like Jon from the old Savatage. There are some really powerful
crunch factor songs on here.
Savatage - "Dead Winter Dead" - great conceptual album, love the
Christmas songs on this one.
Ivanahoe - Symbols of Time - not a bad CD. A progressive band which
has another high pitched singer. Nothing REALLY original, but I it's
good stuff none-the less. Alot of people I know get annoyed with the
singer, and I can understand that.
Iced Earth - "Night of the StormRider" - Alot of people won't agree
with me here, but this is my favorite "Iced Earth". Maybe it's just
because it's the first one I've heard, but the riffing on this album
is soooo clean. I just love the power in this one, FANTASTIC!
Blind Guardian - "Somewhere Far Beyond" - These guys are never
mentioned much on the jam and I don't know why!!.. They are very
opera metal like, but their musicianship is very progressive like.
Awesome band!... If you are into bands with great music, and
fantasy oriented lyrics, you will love these guys!!!, What isn't to
love???
Blind Guardian - "Imaginations From the Other Side" - the followup to
"Somewhere Far Beyond". This album is a little bit softer and alot
better produced, and it's probably my second favorite next to
"Somewhere Far Beyond", nonetheless, there are some real ass kickers
on this one as well.
Gamma Ray - "Insanity and Genius" - This is probably my 2nd favorite
Gamma Ray album. It's good just with a diffeent singer.
Black Jester - "Diary of a Blind Angel" and "Welcome to the Midnight
Circus" - These guys are okay, not one of my faves though. They are
an Italian progressive band. Thought I'd put them up here in case
someone was interesed in hearing them.
Iced Earth - "Burnt Offerings" - this CD is much more progressive
than "Night of the Storm Rider". It's a really good CD. I just
haven't had the chance to reallyl get into it yet.
Threshhold - "Wounded Land" - and "Psychedelicatessen" - This
progressive band is pretty good. They still haven't really hooked me
yet though, but the talent is there.
StratoVarius - "II" and "Dreamspace" - I'm liking these guys more and
more with each spin. They have some real standout songs, but also
some filler songs that could have been better.
Conception - "The Last Sunset" and "Parrallel Minds" - Conception is
a band that really had to grow on me. They are the NeoClassical
variety. I'm really starting to like "Parallel Minds"
Sieges Even - "Steps" and "LifeCycle" - very, very , very
progressive! I thought WatchTower had alot of time changes, but that
was before I listened to Sieges Even!... WOW, These guys are
incredible musicians. However, I think they do go over the top on
some of their songs, especially on "LifeCycle"...
Enchant - "Blueprint of the World" - good musicians, but I never got
into these guys.
Nevermore - "In Memory" - Nevermore is a band that we need to really
look out for. They are getting ready to release another full length
album and from what I understand there are some real progressive
elements to it with incredible musicianship. People who have heard it
are caling it a masterpiece. I got the ep and I love it, even though
it's songs they wrote a while back ago. ...I'm sure I will get some
wave file requests from these guys!...
Well, that's about it for my good stuff....Remember, don't be shy on
your requests. If you don't have any of these and want 1 of each, no
problem. I have alot of time on the net. Also, if you want me to send
ya maybe 5 or 6 waves taken off of 1 CD, that is fine too. Just make
sure you can receive attachments in your email package. ALSO, make
sure you have pkunzip....I will send all requests that I get, but it
will be on a first come first serve basis....Take Care...and happy
listening.....Dusty

poster, but this isn't entirely true. Joe Elliot and Rick Savage were
orignal songwriters, weren't they?

Hey jammers! I was talkin' to my 'rents back home in NY today and my dad said
that I got a package from the DT fan club deal over there in England. Anybody else get
this? What's inside? A new I&W fanzine? Yeah!
Re: Well I saw and (barely) heard Stump play sextuplets at 220 bpm.
(someone in Corey Bell's class at Berklee Guitar Week said that.)
Are you shittin' me?!?! Straight sixteenth notes at 210 is challenging. SIX notes
per beat, 220 beats per minute??? That's twently-two notes a second! Wait a
minute!!!! Did Joe PICK sextuplets at 210??? Because we all know that anyone can play
Eruption faster than a speeding bullet.... :)
To the guys looking for Lemur Voice samples: Don't bother! Buy the friggin'
CD. You will like it. You are on the internet mailing list devoted to Dream Theater.
You will like Lemur Voice. I give you my personal guarantee. :)
Later!

I hate to perpetuate this thread, but... I haven't listened to PL in a while, and I don't have the CD case with me, so I don't know what the length is listed as offhand... But if I remember correctly (which I'm not saying I do) after the 'nature walk' there is some more ambient stuff at the beginning of the next track. It could be possible that the time from the beginning of the *music* of PL and the beginning of the *music* of the next track is what is listed on the CD cover. Someone check me on this...

To whomever was polite enough to not stomp my ass on the 'Floyd thing -- thanks! I couldn't remember who the current line-up is, don't really give a shit, I liked Syd and Roger. But at least David Gilmore has someone writing decent lyrics for him now.
Actually, I saw them in Dallas in '94, was a pretty good show. They had a video running during "Shine On..." which seemed to me to be a statement that David was expressing remorse over Syd's downfall... I always thought it sad that they didn't try to get him into rehab, or to do anything about his drug problem. Sure it was the height of all that stuff, but they DID recognize problems back then!
My husband, upon being queried about the band that's not a band dilemma, came up with a good one: Renaissance, now (he sez) broken up, went through a complete line-up change between their first and second albums. So they're a band that's not a band that's NOT a band!!
Now. Unanswered questions. what IS a tape tree? is it ok to write to durnik@goodnet.com, re Chris Ptacek's reply? Sorry if I have mangled yr name (again), budddy. And where is my fellow scholar JONATHAN CASE? (If yr trying to find me through our gopher system, type email=jazzmin, my info is different.)
NASTY EVIL SYSOP FROM HELL MODE *ON*
*I* don't do drugs because they mess with my HAXOR SMARTS (inject sneer here). I don't smoke because I sing, and I've heard many a fine voice ruined from smoking. Not that mine is more special than someone else's, but I can't go around trying to sound like Annie Lennox if my voice is raw and grindy like Courtney Love's. Ewwwww! Also, because if I started, I probably would like it too much, and never stop. But I have been known to toss back a few drinks and dance on the table-tops. Fell off once & broke my knee.
However, I don't mind being around people who do drugs, it's YOUR mind, your body, your judgment... if you want to spend your time being my little mouse, thassallright. I'm for legalization (like the drinking laws, etc), can't think of why not if there are restrictions put on doing it like there are on alcohol, and I'll stand on that statement.
EVIL MODE *OFF*
As for suicide, it happens too much. (Soapbox speech #1: society's fault with pressure to produce/get ahead/own too much worthless shit/to be Better Than Everyone Else.)
All right, some DT content after all, for the suicide thread. The song "Wait for Sleep" has calmed my soul a few times. While not a particularly sensitive person (tough skin), I am prone to be depressed in the middle of the night, when everyone is asleep, and on Sunday afternoons. During the angst phase of my teen years, it was a weekly struggle to survive Sundays. Painful, sometimes. Nobody understands what I mean, though I have outgrown it mostly I still get that feeling and especially after arguing with my husband. Sometimes I creep into my children's room, and sneak one of them, sleeping, out of their bed and just hold her for a while... But the lady in the song is going through something I know all too well.
But don't get the idea that I'm like that all the time! If someone else is around, I am just fine. ...maybe that feeling is me playing mean mental games on myself.
hmmm...
well, I'm off to ponder that now! ttfn!

Well, if it's the original members, then Steve Perry won't be on it. This guy probably got into JOurney when they were big. Tell him that it's the same lineup as the Escape/Frontiers era of journey. But they are not the original members. This brings me to another point. Anybody who heard the ads for the STyx/Kansas show heard that STyx had its original members? This is wrong. false advertising. Some of you may already know this, but Tommy Shaw is not an original member.

(IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE SEEING THIS POST, PLEASE READ IT THROUGH COMPLETELY, THERE IS ALOT OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION)
Hey All ....
Here is my new weekly posting about how to get the most (or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session. I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be weekly.
To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
subscribe ytsejam Your Name
replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg). You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon as possible.
To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in: There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
set ytsejam mail ack
OR
set ytsejam mail digest
If you have any problems, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com.
To get off the Dream Theater Mailing List:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
unsubscribe ytsejam
You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours. If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon as I can.
To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:
There are many files kept by the mailing list server. The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will see what I can do. There are also other files kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates, The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others. Any time I add something I usually send a post to the jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the files available from the server:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
index ytsejam
This will send you a list of all the files available from the server. To retrieve one of these files:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
get ytsejam filename
In place of filename, put the name of the file you want.
Basic Rules:
There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.
1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule you should all try to follow is to think before you post.
2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very nice.
3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past. If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to private email, anyone continuing the discussion will recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind Melon, bands selling out, etc.
4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it may be more useful than posting to the jam.
5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around, and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way. I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis, so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the time, I will get back to you eventually.
Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!
