Hello fellow jammers. A couple quick questions that I would love if
someone could answer (for the sake of the jam, on private e-mail please)

            1. Is there any WWW sites that have Echolyn lyrics??? I've fallen
in love with As the World, and I'd love to get my hands on some lyrics!

            2. I remember someone saying the mailing list info. for Pantera in
TGSTK is wrong. If anyone knows the proper address, could you please pass
    on the info?

            Thanks.

And as for the Moore vs. Sherinan bout, I really like Sherinan.
Why? No, I did not see him live, yes, all i've heard is ACoS, but he is the
one member of the band I can relate to. Why? you ask. HE'S GOT SHORT
HAIR!! LONG LIVE PEOPLE WITH SHORT HAIR!!!!!!

:) (I'm still mad at Phil Anselmo for growing it out) :)

And for this whole debate on what kind of music sucks, which is
good, blah, blah, blah blah. I'll just say this: I can stomach and find
positives in all and every genre of music, nearly every band. I just like
music. That's it. EXCEPT FOR ONE KIND:
    Rap/r&b/hip/hop/whatever/the/fuck/you/want/to/call/it. That is the only
thing I can't stand. I can't understand how a DT fan could say Rush
"sucks". i am not a huge Rush fan at all, i don't really buy their cd's
either. But to say it sucks is pretty dumb.

            That's it.

(in the voice of the 'droid from RotJ)

Went to the CD store and what did I see? (comin' for to carry
    me home :^)>

I picked up Altura, Fire Garden (going to the show in two weeks,
I have to be familiar with *something*), La Villa Strangiato
(I don't know why everyone likes R'n'R '92 so much, this thing
is clearly better), and Lemur Voice's _Insights_. Since I've
had time to listen a little bit today while driving around (I'll
give them all a whirl when I get home), I picked LV. Holy crap!!!
these guys are awesome! The first song was great, but the instrumental,
"Akasha Chronicles" brought a smile to my face (like the guy in
_The Crow_ says). The third was a tasteful interlude, and the fourth
started out with medium hardness/tempo and a beautiful melody, and
then... ha! I smiled a long time listening to the kick-ass part come
in! This is a great CD. The best purchase since _Behind_.

    Zach on hating trendy music:

While I agree there is something to be said for people hating stuff
because it's popular, it goes the other way, too: "If <blah-blah> is
so great, then how come you don't hear them on the radio more? How
come they aren't selling out to bigger venues? How come...*BLAM*"
(Makarov 9mm hollow-point in the head).

Anyway, I hate Nirvana (pathetic all around), fell neutral about
PJ (not Harvey), Soundgarden is OK, AIC is (or was) cool, and I
love Live (where is the new album?) even though all those stupid
teeny-boppers started liking them because of one song (LC is a damn
good song though :^)> And I like No Doubt, too

What I'm learning to hate is those bands that are starting to
sound like Korn. I went to The Boardwalk in Sac. last year and the
three bands that played all sounded like they copied each other!
The only thing better or worse about each was the level of musicianship.

    Zach

(or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will
be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are
quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session.
I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be
    weekly.

To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            subscribe ytsejam Your Name

You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your
mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail
ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon
    as possible.

To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in:
There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in
digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which
contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means
you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com
and I will help you out as soon as I can.

To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:

There are many files kept by the mailing list server.
The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is
archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue
earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and
I will see what I can do. There are also other files
kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates,
The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others.
Any time I add something I usually send a post to the
jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the
    files available from the server:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            index ytsejam

This will send you a list of all the files available from
the server. To retrieve one of these files:

    Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:

            asdf

In the body of the message put:

            get ytsejam filename

In place of filename, put the name of the file you
    want.

    Basic Rules:

There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's
reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as
closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people
who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second
offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.

    1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already
a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary
posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule
you should all try to follow is to think before you post.

    2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists
are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up
everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled
up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask
for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been
done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very
    nice.

    3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic
discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past.
If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to
private email, anyone continuing the discussion will
recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind
    Melon, bands selling out, etc.

    4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it
may be more useful than posting to the jam.

    5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around,
and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot
be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way.
I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain
if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any
problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis,
so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the
time, I will get back to you eventually.

Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!

Hi jammers it's me from Chile=A1=A1=A1=A1
This is my answer to the guy from brazil......

    >Everybody knows that RUSH was a PROGRESSIVE BAND in the 70's, but RUSH=
     became a
    >COMMERCIAL BAND in the 80's. The same thing happened with YES and GENESIS
    >in the 80's. You may think I'm radical , but it's not true.
    >I listen to a lot of different music styles (Progressive, Metal,
    >Blues, Jazz, ...), but one thing I really can't stand is POP MUSIC.
    >I DON'T FORGIVE RUSH : THEY BETRAYED THE PROGRESSIVE MUSIC IDEAL.
    >They turned on a POP MUSIC STYLE, and sold out themselves. They
    >decided to make music to set RADIO STATIONS playlist and MTV.=20

Well I'm a huge prog- fan too and I think the comparison between Rush v/s
Yes and genesis is a little unfair..
In the 80's Yes and genesis they really did POP albums some are good , some
    are bad, some are terrible...
But RUSH never sold themselves.........every album of Rush has some
different, and they really take new forms of music, but they develope this
forms in a RUSH WAY.......you'll never listen from Rush something like
"owner of a lonely heart" or " Invisible touch", that's pop, that's
    mainstream=A1=A1=A1, that's top 40, MTV or whatever....
Of course the music is not the same, but I think Rush is the ONLY
PROGRESSIVE GROUP that have made decent albums in their whole career.......I
love Hemispheres and Permanent Waves, but I know that we have Dream theater
for that kind of muisc :-)............hey my brazilian friend Do you like
    "Inocence Faded"????

    >You know, they did not care about music quality, they were only interested=
     in
    >making easy money. They wanted to become milionaire.

They don't need become millionaires THEY ARE MILLIONAIRES since years=
     ago=A1=A1=A1=A1
They do music because they enjoyed do it=A1=A1=A1 (poor english, I know)

    =20
    >>I mean just LISTEN to the keyboard backings and all around=20
    >>musical composition, and any idiot can see that it was a definite=20
    >>influence on DT. =20
    >Well, I think I'm talking with a idiot in some place. It seems to me
    >you haven't read DT FAQ. DT Keyboard was inlfuenced by YES.
    >It seems to me you never listened to YES ALBUM, FRAGILLE, TALES
    >FROM TOPOGRAPHICS OCEANS, ...

Yes that's right, the first time I heard Kevin playing I thought in Rick
wakeman and Keith emerson, not in Rush...but Petrucci, Myung and Portnoy are
HEAVY influenced by Lifeson, Lee and Peart.....

    >LONG LIVE PROGRESSIVE ROCK !!!
    >PROGRESSIVE ROCK WILL NEVER DIE !!!

Yeah I said the same thing, but I like The rush albums in the 80's and 90's,
and I like some pop albums from the progressive bands,...........

By the way my brazilian friend If you are a prog - fan, you can tell me more
about the brazilian band "Sagrado Coracao da terra" (sorry for the=
     spelling)..

Bye Jammers and I'm waiting for the Echo (Here we go........)

Hey, I'm from atlanta too, and I must say that yes, 96 rock is doing an
about-face with their music in a way. They still play the same led zep,
rush, kinda stuff, but they also added in the "new rock" stuff, but they are
also playing A LOT more stuff like GNR, AIC, Metallica (even the song master
of puppets!!!)and stuff like that. They have a web site set up where you
can get a live stream of what they're doing on the air. You have to have
Realaudio to use it I *think*. their url is http://www.96rock.com check it
out sometime because I think they have some kind of feedback section on the
page--let's flood em!!! (they JUST announced they'd be playing master of
puppets, judas priest, nine inch nails! whoa!) I think I'll be calling
their request lines very frequently now! hahhahaha yeah! DIE MTV!!

Hey everyone, let's show the people at 96 Rock, Atlanta, that a whole LOT of
people want to hear heavy and more rockin music on the radio again. I'm
saying this now, because the station is starting to change formats to harder
stuff, but I want to help this along as much as possible since the time
seems to be ripe!! All you all have to do is email them at
perfect@96rock.com!!! FLOOD EM!! This email address is for what's called
"The Perfect Album Side" that they do every day around the time to drive
home from work. You pick 6 songs that you want to hear by different bands,
and the MORE of us that request stuff, the more chances we have of getting
this stuff back on the air, and if any of your local stations also have a
system like this, then tell us all so we can do the same for you!! Request
stuff like Dream Theater, old Metallica (they've been playing Master of
puppets from what I've heard), Megadeth, Corrosion of Conformity, stuff like
that...FAN THE FLAMES!!!! (MASTER OF PUPPETS CAME ON AS I'M TYPING THIS!!!
    FUCK...YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

FLOOD THE FUCKERZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL YEAH!! FUCK MTV!! Send in
requests every day so they can't IGNORE US ANYMORE!
P.S. They said that on their web site (which is at http://www.96rock.com)
you can use RealAudio to hear what they're airing live...SO....you can see
for yourselves if this is true. I haven't tested it just yet. There's also
an email request line at whistle@96rock.com

later fellow metalheads/hard rock fans.......LET THE REVOLUTION BEGIN--AGAIN!!

Reach Out and Torment Somebody? Heh, heh. Sounds like Jon's come a
long way since then. I've got all of the Sav's and can't believe the
same guy who wtote most of "Sirens" also wrote "Dead Winter Dead."
Saveatage is a great example of how bands seem to grow up. Since Jon
writes all of the material, you can't blame it on the line-up
changes. :b But I really like their older stuff, too. Never got to
listen to Dr. Butcher, tho. Have to try an' find it.

I completely agree with you! Everyone seens to categorize this in
those different groups. I prefer to call it "Urban Expression." (or
Repression?) I really don't find much (if any) musical content I
like in that stuff. Some R&B is cool. But I flat out despise rap.
Contry-western isn't my cup o' tea, either. (I perefer Lipton)

Subject: Progressive Rock is not the question
    Message-ID: <m0v7H63-0008QNC@mailto00.btx.dtag.de>

    Hi Jammers,

I've been on this list for a couple of month, reading all this stuff
about "Progressive Rock or not"; "Who is better or not" and a lot
    more comments.

First of all, I like this list, beacause some of you can give good
hints on other good rock music. If some of the descriptions are good
enough, I usually intend to buy new stuff. Many thanks to all these
guys, who gave input to me.
And I like some of the comments about my favourite bands.

I don't like this PSC's (permanent stupid comments) about progressive
rock. For me it is not the question, what is progressive or not, who
is better or not. Listen to me; I saw them 2 times in this year, even
Deep Purple is progressive, when you listen to "Purpendicular" and
watch the shows with the Mark II lineup except Steve Morse.
But I don't intend to call them progressive only due to this fact.
I like Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow as well; listen to "Stranger in us
all" and ask yourself, where this 50 years old man gets his simple,
    but very rocking ideas from.
I saw DP, AC/DC this year on stage; I will watch Metallica,
Angra and Uriah Heep in October and hopefully some more.
I love the TFE-Album as much as "LOAD" or old Led Zeppelin stuff,
Black Sabbath, Threshold or Tad Morose and a lot more stuff
     - it's too boring for you to complete this list, but see, it doesn't
    matter who it is.
Because I like since more than 25 years "good rock music" and I don't
care, from whom it comes. It doesn't matter, if it is more commercial or
not, more poppy or not, heavier or not. It is only good music and the
feelings by listening to, that makes sense for me. Even I like the older
stuff from Rush more than the newer ones, but on the other side, who
wants to listen to hundreds of 2112-clones year by year. It's boring
too. So, leave it as it is and enjoy the music. And if not, please
don't hesitate to keep your thoughts about "Who is the better one ?"
only in your mind, but not in this list. It makes no sense to discuss
the best guitar player, because the band and it's music is to
discuss and not if someone has stolen from Jimmy Page. Or did Geedy
Lee steal from John Myung or Neil Peart from Scott Rockenfield or
Mike Portnoy from Engelbert Humperndinck and James La Brie from Liza
Minelli ? Yeah, this is boring.

Enjoy, whatever you're listening to. Presently I'm listening to
Angra's Holy Land, which is much better than Rush's "Hold your Fire"
    and Queensryche's "Operation mindcrime" :-)
