Nope, I haven't, but I think the music in CastleVania II rocks hard,
especially the end. Any sharp-eared guitarists want to tab any of it? I
figured out the "Morning Sun Has Vanquished The Horrible Night Part" but
can't get any more of it. There is a Japanese band that covers the tune

    >SHEEHAN clinic? How was that? Elaborate please. Tell me more. Yeah, Billy Sheehan did a bass clinic the evening after the JP/DS clinic. Being a bass player myself, I went to this more in hopes of learning something (which I did), as opposed to being primarily entertained by JP/DS (though I did learn some stuff there, too). The main thing that I really got out of Sheehan was building up a good practice regimen, and the difference between practicing and playing (practicing being grueling, nasty hard work, and playing being playing songs). Also, he stressed that what works for one person, might not necessarily work for another (except to maybe show what not to do). He didn't play along to any tracks, but did play a lot of keen fast bass riffs and such (more than one person asked him to "play that again, only slower" :). He talked a lot about playing from the heart and being genuine. Talked about his gear some, too (had some really keen lights on his neck, too :). He really struck me as someone who just could not stop playing. Whenever he was talking to someone, he was constantly doodling around on his bass. He gave away a couple CDs (one was a Mr. Big best of thing, Japanese release). More talking than playing, but a good amount of playing, too.

here's an idea - how 'bout neither of you reply to anything one says about the other!!!!!!!!!! sheesh............

    Anyway - some random comments:

1.) Got a tape of Symphony X (thanks, Voges). I like them a lot. They're very chunky (no not fat - I love those staccato "chunk-chunk-chunk" rhythm licks..... Whoever it was that said they sounded like Yngwie was pretty right....if Malmsteen is considered "Neo-classical metal", then these guys should be considered "Neo-classical prog". Good stuff, good vocals, good harmonies, great guitar and drum work, and the keys are great too. Not as good as Superior (I still hate you, Bernd! :P), but definitely worth getting. If you like the intro to the Mirror, then you'll really dig these guys... And whoever caught that "Mars" thing - DAMMIT! you beat me to it - that popped right into my head when it first came on. What a great classical piece....

2.) Was at the ol' Cheapo Bin at Tunes in Hoboken, when what do I find....... EINSTEIN....the band that opened for DT at the Birch....pretty good stuff - nothing spectacular, kinda repetitive, but I like it.

By the way, the drummer is Jonathan Mover. Didn't mean that much to me, but apparently, according to my friend, this guy is a primo drummer, who has played with Marillion, Satraini, and Zappa (Frank).......interesting, but don't bitch at me if I'm wrong - my friend *IS* a drummer, so cut him some slack... :P

    that's it for now......

This is some phreaquey post a coworker got in a chain letter the other day. I thought this was rather interesting. I don't know how much is true, but it's still rather phreaquey...

This is sort of freaky, but interesting.

    ****************************************************************************

    Think about this....................

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both were shot in the head. Here is an interesting one...

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners.

    Both successors were named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names compromise fifteen letters. Booth ran from the theater and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theater.

To cap it all off, Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

Well I dont know about MM being on a TV show...but I do know that Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumkins was in Small Wonder, he was that little anoying kid. Its nice to know he is as bad of in actor as he is a singer (no offence to anyone who may like the wailing moose).

Also the deal with Guitar world, yeah!! It does suck, I never seem to have gotten much good out of those mags. The only thing that I really had enjoyed from them where the JP guitar colums and A John Myung bass clinic type interview. I even remember when they put down that chick from White Zombie, Jason Newstead and get this THE GUY FROM GREENDAY! as the top five bassists (and I like Metallica but Jason is no way one of the top five bassits). I know the Guitar World is sort of forced to put this crap in it to sell them, but... its really getting outta hand.

WAH! I'm gonna be down there around the 19th. :( I'll even go jam on the Trinity at said store. Too bad it's on a Twosday, I'll never get there. I must admit, that guy kicks ass. I just got my first Symphony X CD today and must admit, it rokz nadz verily. Quite Yngwie-like and remeniscent of old 80s hair metal at times, yet very symphonic and enthralling. I must get the rest of these!

The only thing I have to say about Marilyn Manson is that they should start their own online thing and call it the shitjam. MM is the farthest thing from progressive that there is out there besides rap music (some of which is ok) but MM is just trash. (only stating my opinion) and it doesn't belong on the jam. If you wish to flame me do it in personal e mail, but beware... I have an alliance against MM. They may write back.

your opinion is cool with me, but i'm a heavy jammer as well, and lets get a rundown of me:

I like marilyn manson, i wont go into my reasons because its not relevant I'm currently listening to Public Enemy's Apocalypse 91 cd (Rap music, for those who dont know) This list is to be about Dream Theater fans to discuss music they enjoy. this doesnt just constitute progressive music. if you want that, there's i'm sure a prog music list out there. I personally dont care for some of those prog bands out there, in fact the only prog i listen to is the basics like FW, Ryche, Rush, and a few others. i dont find it a problem if people want to discuss other prog bands i dont care for on this list. if they're a DT fan, they like the music, and others on this list also like it and want to discuss it in the forum, then go for it. I'm sure theres some marilyn manson fans on this list, or ones interested in this thread, the simple thing to do is page down past it, and dont let it get to you. 100% of the content obviously wont interest everyone, definately not that way for me, but provoking things may end up sustaining a thread to really boring potential that would have died out quickly otherwise.

and no one better start rippin on rap music now, or i'll get mike portnoy to come beat you up too :) ~Rip

Brazil has become one of the most important places in the world for those who like rock and progressive bands. Sepultura (of course), Slayer, Faith no More, Deep Purple, Page & Plant, Jethro Tull, Rick Wakeman, Santana, Supertramp, Satriani, Vai, Iron, Metallica, Helloween, Black Sabbath, and much more already played here in Brazil... How can Dream Theater be out of this list? Sao Paulo is the third major city in the world, and we've got many DT fans over here. This is a formal invitation !!!!!! :) Please spread it out !!
