So my roommate and I headed down to Tampa, Florida for a record convention
today. Not a lot of vendors, it seemed, but then again, it was my first
time. Darn shame there was a sign at the entrance reminding vendors that
their contract to participate does not allow them to sell and bootlegs.
Damn! Well, there still were a few boots floating around, but they were Tori
boots, one of which my roomie grabbed.
Anyway, I did happen to see some DT stuff. This includes:
DT backstage pass '92 Japan (didn't see a price)
DT backstage pass '93 world tour (didn't see a price)
Another Day promo CD: $4
Silent Man promo CD: $4
Lie single (still wrapped in digipak): $7
WDADU import version: $20
WDADU original MCA pressing: $8 <------ nice
That last one grabbed my eye, but since I already have an original pressing,
I passed it by. Of course, I did wonder about some of the Jammers who might
be looking for some of the items I saw, recalling that Mr. Rip likes to
collect DT promos, but I figured he already had that stuff anyway.
I think I'll be hitting another convention on Saturday in Jacksonville.
Maybe I'll find what I need there.

Yeah...it really was a disappointing waste of time. I was going into it
thinking that he would have more to say about politics and the way things
are run, especially after him writing something like the song Empire. It
just seemed as though he had 500 other places he would rather have been.
Its was really bad.
As for the new QR album.....I think it can be best described as well
written alternative. Some of it is good, some of it is not. My major
gripe is that all the songs sound very similar. My favorite still is
Promised Land.
I just got Marillions "Seasons End" and "Afraid of Sunlight", both are
unbelievable.

In the April 1997 issue of Guitar Player Magazine, there is an article about a
guy named Daniel Lanois (who playd guitar for movie soundtracks) titled "Dream
theater". The same issue also has a page talking about the band Altura, and
mentions their Dream Theater influence. Hmm, this is about the closest this
magazine has come to talking about DT since Awake came out. I hope they hurry
up with the new album :)

I agree with you; nothing good comes out of negative stuff
like this. But, that's Itchy. That's why he makes these lists,
because the only way he knows how to raise his self-esteem
is by trying to drag people down to his level. It's pathetic I know,
but for Itchy it's cheaper than paying a therapist (or a hooker).

Very commercial, very listenable, well played pop metal. Excellent vocalist. Both of their albums have moments of brilliance...and some really cheesy stuff too.

I love Dream Theater for their abilities to be balls-out metal and cotton-soft pop. Their technical abilities go far beyond anyone else I've heard. I absolutely LOVE their prog. styles, its trans-like and very impressive. Could someone please e-mail me privately and refer me to other band that might interest me like DT. I love Yes, and Gentle Giant, and Floyd, and Zeppelin. Please someone refer me to an album that's proggy, but aggressive.

Hey Jammers. With all the bustle going on right now about RUSH coming back to town, at timed daily intervals I check TicketBastards web page to see new tour dates. Almost every other day a new one is popping up, but no signs of a Michigan show. When they came to The Palace of Auburn Hills last October, I had some pretty kick ass seats....I could actually see the guys faces =] So, of course I am in a panic to get good seats once more so that I won't have to deal with the good old nose bleed section! My question is that if there is ANYONE on this mailing list with "Foreseeing" powers to inform me when RUSH plans to come to Michigan. Hell, they have a Ohio show in June, so I was figuring that Michigan would not be overlooked. Please, me and Chris K both plan to attend this show along with a few of our other RUSh brethren.....if you can help us out, please e-mail me with the precious information you may have.

Actually, go out and look for some bands on the Magna Carta label. I highly recommend the following...
Shadow Gallery - Carved in Stone (the Q-tip of the bunch... Soft, but it generally digs all the good stuff out.) Enchant - A Blueprint of the World (Gets those hard to reach places) Lemur Voice - Insight (Comes in grape, cherry, and orange flavors)
Also, if you wanna dig up some Xtra cash get the following...
Angra - Holy Land Superior - Behind Savatage - Streets: A Rock Opera OR Savatage - Dead Winter Dead Marillion - Brave
I think that's a good start for you now. I hear Symphony X is pretty damn good, too. I'll find out next week when my CDs hopefully come in. :)

Hi Glenn, Meshuggah lead guitarist Fredrik Thordendahl just released a disc:
Fredrik Thordendahls special defects: Sol Niger Within
It's a more experimental sound with large parts sounding like Meshuggah, but with an even better drummer! It conscists of a 43 min track. Really great disc IMO. More info on http://www.itv.se/uae
Then there's a ruomour that they will release a mini-CD this month, with a full album possibly in September, can't wait til they tour! (living in Sweden I've seen them a few times and they are as tight live, just much faster!!!!!)

Hey, There's a rumor goin' around that the guy who played Paul in "The Wonder Years" is the frontman for Marilyn Manson. I was w/ some other friends tonight, and we compared pictures we found on the net. They were almost identical--same facial structure, same nose, same ears, same type of hair, same placement of the sideburns, just about everything. One wonder years web site even proclaimed that the dude was definitely not a part of MM. We also compared and shared our own MM rumors. Now, I'm not a fan of MM, not even anywhere close, in fact they annoy me, but I am kinda curious as to this little rumor. Anyone who knows any more, please e-mail me or post it. Thanks.
BTW, looking at all this MM shit (pardon me if you're a fan of them, but this IS my opinion of them) has made me think of something. Yeah, that's right, Dream Theater rules. In every aspect. You can never find a better band IMHO. If yer reading this guys, rock on! We all can't waiting for the new album! :)
