Just received my promo copies of Enchant's and Magellan's new albums.
Haven't given them a detailed listen, but I've played tracks on the air
already. My advice? Run, don't walk to a store that sells good prog shit
and buy this stuff in triplicate. I say in tripplicate because you might
want to keep one of these CDs at home, one in the car, and one somewhere
else just in case. Magellan has a drummer, and he's rather good. I could
say more, but it would be uninformed. But, buy these, buy them now.
They're fucking awesome. More details when I actually listen to more than
    one track.

Not from my standpoint. Our guitarist can *only* play with stubby picks!
The worst part is, he only ever has one on hand, and always seems to lose it
somewhere. It's a good thing he's only a ska guitarist!

i have, but unfortunately, it' not what y'all were hoping for......there's
a guy out there who goes by the title "kevmo" who's released
stuff.....heard a song by the guy, for which they mentioned that a kevmo
song was coming up after the commercial.....and i was sitting in my car
thinking, "could it be?" and thinking, no way in hell, not on this
station, and come to think of it, not on any station in detroit
area.....and of course it wasn't "our" kevmo, but some other guy, but the

    On the subject of Soundgarden:

I don't consider them progressive, but up through Superunknown I did consider
them a hell of a rock band. I'm glad they broke up, because I believe they were
running out of steam on Down On the Upside. I bought that album, and "Burden in
My Hand" turned out to be the only song I liked. This was a great
disappointment, as I thought that Louder than Love, Badmotorfinger, and
Superunkown, were very good (if not great) albums. That unholy word "sellout"
never occurred to me - it just seemed that they had lost the creative edge that
had defined even their more radio-friendly songs.

For example, "Black Hole Sun" (which is my second least favorite song on that
album) is definitely an oddball song in a musical way - nowhere near the
standard grunge/alternapop. They did songs from the likes of "Mailman" and "Limo
Wreck" - atmospheric, edgy rockers - to the softer things such as "Like
Suicide," which I think is one of their best songs.

    Anyway, I'm babbling, so that's it. I'm interested in people's thoughts. I
haven't seen anything more in depth than "RIP" or "good riddance." Here's hoping
that Cornell and Thayil can refresh their horizons (the other two guys can't
    write music worth shit).

Okay, I've got a few things & thought I'd combine them.

    1. In flipping JANUARY I sent off a check to the fan club. Yeh, I know
that they aren't really up on things, but they haven't even cashed the
    fucker yet. What gives, anyone?

    2. Whoever wanted to swop me Majesty Demos for (You-Know-What), please let
me know if you're still interested in this so I can send you my snail mail
    address 'n' all that.

    3. Someone wanted to know a group that has lots of albums that has some
good stuff... I like the Alan Parsons Project (though not their latest,
sounds very lame but the CD-rom was cool).

    4. Ytsequiz! name the author and, for bonus points, the source. Forgive
    misquotes.
The year is now 182x. As always, I am absorbed with a delicate
thought... without a pleasureable idea, music is simply music. Without
music, or the pleasureable idea, color becomes pallor. Body becomes
carcass. Home becomes catacomb. And the dead are, but for a moment,
    motionless.

(proper quote upon request. I'm not near my literature book for the direct
quote, but this is close enough for recognition.)

    5. Still got bunches of vinyl for sale, name yr price on almost all of
them. Most used, most in excellent condition; lots of prog and bootlegs
among other boring crap I'm just trying to get rid of. Email for details.

Someone is hacking over there in the corner, I'm gonna go check 'em out n
    see if they want coffee.

Oops, forgot to post my DT content! Doh!

Okay, so I call up my "local" college station and request some DT. So I
say, hey if I bring it will you play it? They say SURE! NOTE:
aforementioned station is TWO HOURS AWAY.

So there I am travelling from Norman OK to Stillwater, to bring them an
extra copy of I&W (couldn't find used copy of Awake). On the way back, I
dial them up on my c-phone since it's free and request a song. The asshole
DJ who'd said he'd absolutely dig having a DT disk in the station said,
well, I listened to it and just don't really like it (this contradicted a
previous remark about how much he grooved it last time he heard it,
prompting me to offer the disk), but he'd play a song for me anyhow. Which
one? I requested UAGM, thinking that'd come over the airwaves nicely.

About an hour later he got to it. I was nearly home. He said on the air,
"a listener BEGGED us to play this and even brought us the CD from Norman,
call in and let us know what you think." And, for the first time, I heard
something besides "Pull Me Under" on the air. He cut it off short, didn't
even play the whole song, and said someone had called in and said they hated
it. One call. So, he said, why don't you just come on back here and pick
    up your disk.

    ASSHOLE!@(&*^(^%%$#@

So the point here is that they have an 800...

    1800297KSPI.

Get the idea? The other two Oklahoma jammers don't get the station.

For all who considered Soundgarden just another no-talent alternative waste,
take the time to listen to some of their "non-top 40" songs. You'll then
reallize that they did actually have some prog-type skills. For instance the
songs "Rhinosaur" and "Never the Machine Forever", neither of which are in
4/4 time. In fact about 70% of the songs they wrote were in odd times and
had good structure, unlike most alternative bands (ie. Green Day and most of
the bands on 120 Minutes) who thoughtlessly throw bar chords together. It's
f~cked up, the bands w/ no talent always sell the most records.

Anyway I'm not sayin' that Kim Thayill can compete with John Petrucci by a
long shot, but that doesn't matter because Thayill was geared towards a
different style and sound anyway. Speekin' of the mac, does anyone have the
JP Instructional Video? I heard it rocked. Just listening to the shit he
does is one thing, but I can't imagine actually WATCHING it! Too bad they
didn't have a JP clinic in the southeast.

    Hey guys,

I'm new in posting to the list (let's just say I had an interesting
    first experience...Remember "Gather Hebrews...")

Anyway as a Christian myself, I was wondering if it was Mike C. who
is pissing you guys off or if it is Christianity? It really bugs me
when other Christians such as Mike give us a bad name by sounding ridiculous
and making us look like a joke by shoving our religion down your throats.
Christianity is very important to me, but I realize that the ytsejam
is not the place to try to start a mission.

It's really a shame, Mike...think about what you are doing buddy??

Oh...and by the way...I don't think the FAQ covers "The Silent Man"
Could somebody fill me in on what this song is about??

Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

Christianity doesn't piss me off. Hell, I was a Christian for a good 19
years or so. It merely confuses me.

    > when other Christians such as Mike give us a bad name by sounding ridiculous

That's not really it, either. I mean, that bugs me, but Mike hasn't done
that on this list in quite some time (not since he got kicked off for
    doing it).

What bugs me is that Mike purports to be a strong Christian, but acts in
the most non-Christian manner I've seen for so devoted a follower. No,
that's not even it. I could care less. It's just that he does it *here*.

I'll put an answer there when I get a good one. I'm still hoping that
someone saved that post that Mike Bahr sent in comparing the song to 1001
Arabian Nights. That was killer stuff, and I'd love to include it.

    Hmm...

Is it just me or are the opinions on the new QR album just
completely polarized into two camps? Some of us love the album, others
can't stand it (or possibly have been led to believe that it is grunge and
hate it for that without even listening to anything besides Sign of the
Times). Guys, it is still Queensryche... they still have their own
distinct sound that a lot of us have embraced since the early days. They
do keep changing (progressing, regressing, whatever) but they still are
writing tunes with thought-provoking lyrics, good musicianship, and the
vocals of one of the better singers in rock.

To anyone that is bashing Ryche: people complained when Promised
Land came out... said it was too wussy and laid-back.. the guys didn't
just let it all loose and rock enough. Well, they delivered the product
that satisfies all those complainers. HitnF has some hard-hitting,
rocking tunes on it... and now they get slagged for going 'alternative'
    or 'grunge'.

Anyway, if any Ryche fans have complaints, just go catch the next
tour. The Queensryche tour for PL was by far the best concert I have been
to (including DT/FW), and I wasn't even that fond of PL at the time.

If you want to have your dissenting opinions about Ryche, that's
fine... you are entitled to do so. But to slag another individual/group
for their artistic contribution is just not cool. Sheesh... I wonder how
many of you aspiring musicians out there have written music that could be
considered 'on par' with HitnF, much less any of the older Ryche efforts.

I just got a cool cd called Niacin (which reminds me of the time I took to
much of the vitamin Niacin and my body turned red and I got all hot and
itchy (speaking of Itchy, come back, man!) but that's another story).
Anyhoo, it's Billy Sheehan on bass, John Novello on Hammond B3, and Dennis
Chambers on drums. I don't know who the second two guys are but they rock.
The cd is a good mix of jazz, blues, prog, rock and just outright jamming
by three talented guys. I found it at Tower on a listening station and it
    was on sale.
If you like bass and Hammond, I suggest it.

I had a girlfriend once who didn't like Fates, for much the same reason as
yours. But I was sort of living with her, and I wasn't about to stop
listening to my favourite band. So she was subjected to a barrage of it
for about, oh, a year and a half. You'd think someone would get annoyed at
having to hear music they don't like so much for such a long time. But
after a year and a half, she suddenly "got it." There were other things
she didn't get, but that's not important. The point is, Fates is weird
that way, and I think it's sort of why they haven't been very popular. You
just can't take that kind of time with music you don't like at first.
there's too much other music that you do like to listen to.

But it's so rewarding when you do "get it." I never disliked it, but it
took a hell of a long time before it really clicked with me, at which
point I was suddenly in ecstasy that hasn't gone away.

Musically, there's just about nothing as rewarding for me as listening to
"At Fates Hands," "Nothing Left to Say," "Guardian," or "The Ivory gate of
Dreams" really, really loud. With my eyes closed. It was well worth the
wait. So basically, my point is, don't sell those Fates CDs yet.

And as I've said before, it seems to me that the new one is more
accessible. I haven't had to wait two years for it to grow on me.
That might be partially because I'm used to Fates, or maybe once
you "get it" it becomes much easier to get into the new stuff. But
for the reasons you cited (about Ray's singing) and others (Kevin's
keys may have a lot to do with it) I think APSOG is probably much
more accessible than the other stuff. At least for DT fans.

That's No Exit. The song is the Ivory Gate of Dreams. And thank you for
    calling me God :)
