oh, i guess i shouldnt bring up the fact that i have a giant upside down bloody pentagram in my room surrounded by candles in which i perform satanic rituals while wishing the plague upon the christian faith and slaughtering live animals in no reason other than do indulge upon their raw flesh and sadistically inflict pain. then i usually take a few bibles from the bathroom (i use them instead of toilet paper) and burn them habitually. the smell of those extra thin pages to house all that crap on fire is a sweet sweet aroma. yummy.

Along those lines. Any of you drummer/percussionists try to cover DT songs w/ a five piece kit,a double pedal and a plethora (a lot) of cymbals? Just wondering?
By the way anyone care to talk about the ending of Scarred? What time signatures are they using? Dont look in your guitar books?? I bet that it is 4 measures of 4/4 and a measure of 5/4 repeated into the fade.
I know I know, enough about the time signature debate, but anything to get people off of the ridiculous MM debate.

Let me tell you about this great band. They use quite a few odd meters, they tune their instruments to all sorts of weird tunings to get strange chords, they write songs about a variety of topics from emotions to politics. They are called Soundgarden. They are progressive music with a grunge sound. And, since so many people on here yell loudly when the old-school proggers say that prog-metal isn't prog because it lacks the old prog-rock sound, I expect that no one will object to Soundgarden being called prog just because they lack the prog-metal sound. After all, they have all the other damn qualities.

To anyone who might care, Defyance is currently writing new material and will be heading in to the studio this summer to record. You can check out the current material at the following:

(as Chris already mentioned...:) )
Any news on when new Stratovarius will be available in the States? Just curious. Also, one more question...feeling very interrogative(?!) today...What does My Dying Bride sound like? I know someone mentioned them awhile back, but I skipped over it. Their opening for Dio next week, and I just wanted to know what to expect.

...they play 2 riffs or 4 chords in every song, they sing out of key, they made the same album twice (however, it's decent), they encourage NOT getting guitar lessons, their guitarist's style, albeit unique, is quite bland and repetitive, etc...
Remember, uniqueness, doesn't necesarily equate to quality.

YESSS!! Finally someone besides me mentions this amazing band! You will LOVE this..I cannot possibly see how any fan of intense prog metal can't be. Some of the solos in which the guitars and keys are trading off are just so f*cking amazing. When my friend and I first heard the guitar/key solos to the first song "Incurably Ill" we simultaneously shit our pants. You will too :-)
$14 is a STEAL!! I ordered directly from LMP and had to pay $25 (EXTREMELY worth it though..just like SYMPHONY X)..Did anyone on this vast list get their new one "Headquake" yet..please..I MUST know..its vital! Denis Gulbey of SENTINEL STEEL told me he'd have in 3-4 weeks for just $12..I can't wait!!
Talk about an AMAZING day...yesterday I received my shipment of CD's from DREAM DISC and SENTINEL STEEL..needless to say..I think I'm set for a good year until I have another CD binge (just spent around $300....I'm addicted to prog..I need help!) I received a whole slew of new music and bands...I finally got my grubby hands on:
SYMPHONY X "Damnation Game" (can't go wrong w/ an intro like that..they rule..."Divine Wings..is coming in a week..these guys are inhuman)
CONCEPTION "In Your Multitude" (great follow up to "Parallel Minds"!)
MEMENTO MORI "Life, Death, Other Morbid Tales" (Soooome people say man is made outta mud......Messiah rules!!great disc) PSYCHOTIC WALTZ "A Social Grace" "Into The Everflow" (First taste of these guys and love that harmonized sound..I'm such a sucker for that..if its harmonized..i'll buy it!)
BLACK JESTER "Diary Of A Blind Angel" (really interesting arrangements..shitty singer...friggin' accent drives me nuts...kinda like EVIL WINGS only not as "watchtowerish")
ARTENSION "Into The Eye of the Storm" (keyboardist is insane!! Mike Terrana shines on drums..glad he's more aggressive now that he's in a nurturing environment rather than with Grand Dictator Malmsteen! They don't seem so bad Chris..although James Murphy did help out a lot.
CELTIC FROST "To Mega Therion" (I hate this..waste of 12 bucks...oh well..guess one dud in a shitload isn't too bad :-( I was expecting tons of melodic dual lead guitars and got the complete opposite...crapola!
ELEGY "all three albums" (both guitarists thank DiMeola and Friedman; 'nuff said...AMAZING guitar melodic shred band..only problem I have is that each album is almost perfectly balanced w/ incredible shred yer' balls off thrill rides and sappy ass ballads...still worth every penny ($12 each through SS and DD) "Windows of the World" has my jaw on the floor every time I hear it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
IMPELLITTERI "Impellitteri" "Screaming Symphony" (gotta be one of the fastest guys Ive ever heard..great solos..sorta like a SUPER Christian version of Malmsteen except a lot more going on in the music than any of yngwie's latest stuff.)
IRON FORTRESS "Iron Fortress" (Leviathan side prpject...seems kinda bland so far...maybe thats why its not on any LEVIATHAN stuff..time will tell.....)
NOCTURNAL RITES "In a Time Of Blood and Fire" (pretty interesting on first listen...nordic melodic/power metal band..needs more time)
SUPERIOR "Behind" (wasn't too thrilled on first listen but I was kinda listening while half-a-million things were going on so I'm sure I'll be blown away when I sit down with it)
POWER OF METAL (2 disc live set of the "Melodic Metal Festival" in Germany '93 w/ GAMMA RAY, RAGE, CONCEPTION, and HELICON....it rules!)
** as I said, I'm addicted and I need help...anyone wanna help me out and buy my Duff McKagan disc?.......didn't think so :-)
SYMPHONY X "Divine Wings of Tragedy" and ELDRITCH "Headquake" coming soon!!!
so many CD's, so few intact jewel cases,

I know that the Petition made a big impression on the record company, but does anyone know if it had any weight in convincing the record company to consider putting out 2 albums, or maybe a double album. I remember reading most of the comments on the Petition, and many, perhaps more than half of them, were people beggin for all the material.
Perhaps someone who talks with one of the band members, or one of you guys going to oe of the European shows could find out for us.
Thanks, and heres hopin' for 2 CD's from the band this summer

*Blush* Previous post? Jeez... That's what I get. I fell like a jackass, but still, if we're gonna keep flames off the list you need to send them privately. (And no, sending a private one and then one to the jam doesn't count, dude). It's like we somehow feel tepted to reduce the other person to a sphincter in front of everyone else. Why do we do it?
I shoudn't have oughtn't have done that, but I just went and got my hypocrite tattoo today so I don't feel so bad. :)

Here's something that should piss off all you Fates Diehards out in ytseland. I'm currently listening to A Pleasant Shade of Gray, lent to me by a friend who works for our school radio station. But here's the good part... I don't even like Fates Warning! Of all the people on this list who could be listening to this CD, I got it. Oh, the irony... I haven't listened to much of it yet, but people who have been turned off to this band by Alder's vocals like I have may want to check this album out; from what I've heard so far they sound a lot better. What do I mean by better? On the three albums I have, (NE, PS, and IO) I find Alder's vocals to be completely devoid of any melody. It sounds to me like he's just, well, noodling aimlessly (I'm a guitarist, I don't know what it's called when a vocalist "noodles"). I haven't listened to enough yet to be able to say anything more, but he just sounds better to me on this one. As for the big fans, I don't know what to tell you. Except sorry, life sucks. -Clark

I have a question about those boys from Canada:
Can anybody tell me why they still tour? They definitely don't have to do it to make money...they are all very well off. Why do they do it? I remember reading recently that Neil Peart was tired of touring. Regardless, you just have to admire them for supporting every one of their records with a tour.

Huh? And you skipped Parallels? I thought that was Ray's best one personally, but then I liked the vox on Inside Out alot, too. Oh, well, they're not for everyone. My friend finds his overuse of high vocals on alot of stuff to be annoying, and I can understand that. It's not for everyone. :)

Let's see how many posts on one subject I can get into one jam. >Can't wait for the new FW. I haven't heard a new KevMo for a long
As I said in my last post, I can't really get into this band. However, after listening to some more of APSOG, I can say that I definitely think the increased keyboard presence adds alot to their sound. And as for the vocals, he definitely doesn't use his high range as much, which I like alot better. But I still kind of think he just wander's around, I'd rather he pick one melody and go with it for a while. Just IMO, though. -Clark
