Hello, everyone. As promised, I have updated the FAQ yet again.

    New sections include:

    * The Silent Man Explanation (Thanks to Mike Bahr for writing it, and
    Brian Kirk for finding it)

    * Mercy Fuck

    * The FAQ Maintainer's sick sense of what's funny on April Fools' Day :)

    * Little blurbs about the Webring, the petition, and the European shows

    * URL of the Australian mirror site (should be up by tomorrow, I suspect)

..and I think that's it. Again, all the links are the same. Thank you
to the mirrorers and everyone that wrote to me with suggestions and
    corrections.

I'm off now to upload the revisions to the pertinent ftp sites. If anyone
has questions, comments, or corrections, don't hesitate to let me know!

My comments on No Doubt. I can't say I really like them. I have listened to
the whole Tragic Kingdom CD and the only song that appealed to me was Don't
Speak (like someone else said, especially the guitar solo). I also like
Trapped In A Box (from their first album, I think) and the music of Just A
Girl but the lyrical content has to go. This is all just my two cents..

I don't see a smiley-face at the end of this. So, I think the tone here is
entirely unnecessary. YOU don't need to be so pushy. WE are not YOUR
service. YOU don't need to be so pissy if you think YOUR precious question
was never answered, especially when it actually was answered.

    Big Swifty replied,

Looks like an assumption is made that Kramer knows what the Fix setlist is.
I looked in the FAQ for the setlist but didn't see it (I can't see...so good
wit deez glasses.) So, if Kramer has not been on this list until after the
Fix shows, it's likely he/she has no idea what the setlist is. BUT, the
question WAS answered indirectly, thus the sour tone displayed above by
Kramer is uncalled for. Kramer might have asked,

"Oh, the setlist is the same as for the Fix shows? I'm sorry, I'm not
familiar with the Fix setlist. Anyone care to tell me what they played at
    that time?"

See, there's no reason for hostility. :)

    Kramer continued,

    >Well I don't live in fucking New Jersey or New York, and when I asked
    >very politely for someone to post a setlist of the Fix show a while
    >ago everyone ignored it.

Oh geez, more hostility. What does living in NJ or NY have anything to do
with it? The setlist appeared here, more than once. So, without further
adieu, here's the setlist as found in Digest #2080:

    Encore: Metropolis Part 1
            approx. 2hr 15min
    __________________________________________________________________________

    1) ACOS 2 went directly into The Mirror/Lie
    2) The Killing Hand had a new jazzier keyboard section just before "When I
go back again, would it be the same..."
    3) Peruvian Skies went right into Pull Me Under (dat-dat-dat, dat-dat-dat)
    4) ACOS 4 actually started with the end of Carpe Diem, without vocals. (The
part where Myung is doing the crazy bass line, and of course "PLEASE DON'T
GO had to be sung by us)
    5) ACOS 4 goes right into Ytse Jam goes right into Learning to Live goes
right into ACOS 7. Take into account that comment #4 was an instrumental,
we didn't see James for about 20 minutes...he had a nice break.
    6) Learning to Live had a new addition to the middle section...much more
rocking, but I'm not sure if I preferred it to the original. It was fun to
    hear something different.
    7) Metropolis had a new instrumental added that sounded to me like it was
borrowed from "Cupid's Dead" by Extreme and "Night Ranger" by Night Ranger.

Now, can we please stop being so nasty to one another? Pretty please? :-)

This was the first no Doubt song i ever heard and I didn't like it much.
I didn't start paying attention to them until I heard Spiderwebs. I think
J A G lyrically speaking is more about how some men look at women
then anything else; and to me it makes it lyrically a better song to me
than when I originally heard it.

I don't know if that makes any sense, but that's - OK

There seems to be a dearth of new music that really kicks

better than sex for me are the new Deep Purple and Angra's
    masterpiece: Holy Land.

I may just be missing something. I've grown to respect
the varied tastes of the Ytsejam community, so I'd like to
open this to all of you guys 'n gals for ideas:

    * What are your top 5 albums released in '96-97

    * Albums that haven't been released yet like the new Fates
or the new DT don't count.

    * Send replies only to me at petedz@interaccess.com, NOT

If I get a decent number of responses, I'll post the

Like DrX suggested, I think QR's "Get A Life" may have used the repetetive chorus to signify the repetetiveness of getting hassled. Maybe not the only way they could have gotten this point across, but it is a thought.

My brother recently got Morgana LeFay's Knowing Just As I (is this their first album?). It is pretty cool, having only heard Maleficium before this. Some of the guitar sound seemed to be reminiscent of early Fates only heavier. There is also some variety from song to song with vocal styles (i.e. he uses his voice to produce different sounds). Pretty cool album, but I think I like Maleficium better. It is newer and the production seems better. But I've only heard KJAI a few times so far.

    Hi friends

First of all: yes i was there, i stood a little left of the center, behind the guy with the videocam (by the way who are you? i want that tape!). I tried very hard to find to find some fellow jammers (especially Siggi from vienna and Andreas from Munich) but as i was looking, everybody started to look like the fotos on your webpages. I decided not to look like a dumbass by asking hundreds of people who they are. Next time i=B4ll somehow identify myself with a sign or something.

    My impressions of the show:

The discussion about James=B4s live singing style will be at an end now, he was showing much discipline this time. No unmotivated shouting and that stuff that was under critique some time ago. The only song in which he seemed not to be completely sure was Caught In A Web. But he definately was great.

They are in top form, and they obviously enjoyed the show. There was a lot of interaction going on between the bandmembers (with the exception of John Myung of course). Derek is much more integrated (in every aspect, sound, social ...) as he was on the awake tour. He and JP seemed to be very close.= =20

Who were the guys with the ytsejammers sign? It was very funny, first james took it and showed it to the audience. Mike who saw it from behind said "it says majesty from behind!" so james turned it around and showed it to the audience (This was the moment when i really felt stupid, i had never discovered this and i obviously have not read the faq, if it=B4s there). The= n he tried to put it somewhere on the drums, but it wouldn=B4t stay so he said something like "fuck" and threw it back.=20

    Enough for now.

    Bye Thomas

P.S.: I didn=B4t like the Enchant gig to much. It was very cold and= unemotional.

    Hi,

Someone mentioned DT releasing a double CD in Europe and Asia only.

As the members have confessed, DT is aiming for the US market with the new album, so a double release in USA can be ruled out as it would mean commercial suicide. However, this is very much feasible in Europe and Japan where DT are well established. If the single album works well in the US, then the 2nd CD (or the double pack) could be released there.

    Cheers,

    Hi all

A few words about the concert I went to on Saturday.

First up were Heavenwood from Portugal. These guys are still trying to find their own sound and direction. At the moment they are a cross between Cathedral and Paradise Lost. Live, they were solid but not brilliant. Time will improve this band. They are already being hailed as the new Moonspell, but I don't think they are that good.

Next came Lake Of Tears from Sweden. I saw this band twice last year and was impressed both times - and now I've been impressed for a third time. Their new material is more melodic than the older stuff, the singer is now really good and their live act is just fine. These guys had the crowd in the palm of their hand from the moment they got on stage. Definitely a band to be reckoned with in the gothic scene.

Then came the headliners, Theatre Of Tragedy from Norway. If any of you ever get the chance to see this band, go. As usual, the two singers were the focus of the act, with their contrasts in both appearance and vocals. The rest of the band were as tight as a duck's arse (and that's water-tight). They played some new songs off their EP "A Rose For The Dead", and it was very, very heavy to say the least. The highlight of the show for me was the first encore, when Liv came back on stage (which was now lit by just candles) alone to sing "A Distance There Is": even my goose pimples had goose pimples. This was also the third time I'd seen this band, and it was certainly the best performance I've seen.

Mininal Dream Theater content: I saw one guy with a Dream Theater shirt (from the Awake tour I think) and they played Awake during the intervals. Anyone else going to the Gross Umstadt gig on Friday? Drop me an e-mail.

    hi there,

Again lots of rumors going on here... I DID NOT here a word about a double CD at the Munich concert! I even doubt the whole "we'll be in the studio right after this mini-tour" routine. The reason? John Petrucci is doing clinics in Europe in may. The dates: may 3rd - "Art of Sound" Cologne may 4th - "Guit-Art" Bonnevoie, Luxemburg may 5th - "Music Shop" Munich <------- again!!! :-) may 6th - "Profi Shop Thomann" Burgebrach may 7th - "Musikhaus Koppold" Backnang (source: german magazine Gitarre & Bass 5/97)
