As everybody said, I know that Monsters Of Rock is not the kind of show
that DT likes to play and is not the kind of show that I like to see. The
sound probably will be terrible. And the size of the show is far away of a
REAL DT gig. But what can we do? It's a fucking dream that will come true
for me... And even if they play on hell, I'll go there. I'd rather too a
gig on Olympia or Palace (some closed places here in Sao Paulo), but what
can we do? Maybe DT come and see the number of brazilian fans and come back
again, to a real gig. Then I'll be REAL happy. and I thought that put DT
with Manowar as headliner is a kind of disrespect, cuz when I've read this
news, on the headlines was written: "Monsters Of Rock, with Manowar, Judas
Priest, Dio, Whitesnake and others...". Oh, fuck'em! Dream Theater is much
more important that anyone of this bands... Well, I expect that DT really
come to Brasil, cuz I'm very anxious...
    Take the time...

Heheh, I think it will be interesting to see who plays the fewest songs
    in
    40 minutes. Between DT and Type O, that's a toss-up :)

listened to the crappy RA versions and now I really want the good versions.

You're only going to get good versions if you go to the Mesa Boogie site.
They have .ra files that they themselves made.

When you create an .ra file, the quality of the original recording is
degraded somewhat (how much depends on what type of .ra is created).

What the kind folks that "saved" the .ra files did (at least, I assume
most of them did this) is: play the .ra file into a .wav recorder, and
then make an .ra of that .wav. Which means two things:

    1) The sound quality has been degraded twice.
    2) You can now save it on your own computer.

Unless someone is offering the .wav files they made (as opposed to the .ra
files they made), that's what you're left with. And .wav files are
typically 5 to 15 times larger than .ra's created from them. (Hence, the
    positive side of RealAudio.)

I suggest that if you just want to hear this stuff, go to the Mesa Boogie
site, and listen as it streams off. Then, if you want your own copies of
these files, take one of our fellow jammers up on his or her offer.

    Just some friendly advice,
    -d

P.S. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more - buying APSOG or
seeing the IGOD .sig again. :)

I don't know too much about this band (never bought any of their albums)
but what I heard on the radio suggested that their drummer had a lot to
contribute. Sometimes, I also got the impression that he was ready to
"bust out," but he didn't. Anyway, I'm definitely curious as to what kind
of music this guy (Matt Cameron, FYI) will get into next. He's already
shown that he's a pretty slick odd-time drummer who can rip a great fill
every now and then. I just wonder if there are other aspects to his
drumming that he didn't bother going into with Soundgarden.
Then again, who am I kidding? I wasn't exactly born to be a talent
scout. I remember my opinion of Drew Bledsoe (current New Engl. starting
QB, has a good shot at being a Hall of Famer) when he was a college senior:
"Man, this guy SUCKS! He'll be lucky to even land a spot in the NFL draft."

This is old stuff..I wrote this a week ago..
Now do I feel stupid or what..two years ago I asked Derek's
autograph on the Awake cd and actually got it !
But what I thought back then was that now that he's a member
of the band, why not get his autograph on the cd ?
I do have his autograph from the time when he played in
Alice Cooper's band, but I had to get it on DT's cd too.
And I'm proud to have Mike's autograph there too. Others
were too busy to sign..rushing in for soundcheck.

I got a copy of the new Q.ryche last weekend and I've
only listened it through once, but I'd say it ain't bad.
I think it sounds like 'ryche. Maybe they added some strange
things, but I don't think it's bad. If I get stuck with
the tape later on, I'll let you know..

AND I can't help but just PRAISE the dj at the club I went
to see finnish progbands last weekend. He played DT twice !
I know it was a prognight, but it just amazed me 'cos I
thought he'd play these old progbands. I mean like these
who've been around for like 20 years or so. Well, got my
feet going all jelly and head banging..somewhere you can
still hear GREAT music !!!!! C-ya ! Satu

Hi. I was just checking out the Qryche tour dates on the SiD home page, and the
day they come to my city, is on my birthday!!!!!!!!!!

Also, does anybody else think that the song You on HitNF might be connected to
London from RfO? London is obviously about a vampire remembering an old love.
Some lines from You remind me of this:
"Do I feed you?" vampires feed off of people

"We've seen the sun setting in their eyes" could mean theyve watched their
    victims eyes as they died

and here is the one that convinced me:

"Not another lifetime without you" In London it is expressed that the character
has had to live several lifetimes without whoever he is singing about.

    Please share your thoughts,

To the guy asking what Necronomicon is (apart from the book of black
magic), it is a pinball game developed by Sega for the Sega Saturn. It
has apparently been released overseas already, but not in the US. I'm not
sure when/if it will be released here, but I'm sure some of us could get
ahold of it. I'm not clear on whether the title is NecronomicON or
NecronomicA; I have heard both, and when John mentioned it, I couldn't
tell for sure which he said. Also, when he played the songs, said "*the*
two songs I did for..." not "two songs I did for...", so people's ealier
claims that he was doing the entire soundtrack might be wrong.=20

On a related note, if you're looking for a good metal soundtrack, try
Destruction Derby 2 for Sony Playstation. It's a great game, and it's got
a soundtrack with balls and chunk. I'm not sure if the PC version has the
    same one or not.

Yesterday I went to the DT concert in Milan. It was a great show, and, as

it was the first time I saw DT live, I got impressed by their harmony on
the stage. They played classics like "Metropolis" and "Ytsejam" together
with new songs. Among the new ones I liked very much "Peruvian Skies" and
"Lines In The Sand". If this was the preamble, the new album will be a
    masterpiece.

I've seen quite a few jams now where people are complaining about
music today, which is fine. I have my own set of complaints as well.
People also cite specific bands that they don't like, such as Nirvana, Bush,
Grenn Day, etc.... One thing that really upsets me is that people have
been grouping No Doubt with bands such as these that have to musical
skill. I would like to know how many jammers who complain about No Doubt
have actually heard their album. I was skeptical at first, but a friend
of mine played it for me and I was actually impressed. They demonstrate
many impressive skills and experiment in a great many styles of music
(which I've always found respectable). They are not prog and they're not
very heavy, but they are talented. You don't have to like them, but
don't judge them so hastily. Don't mistake commercial success for lack
    of talent. - Jason

there will not be a double cd
i saw JP and DS at a clinic about two weeks ago
they said they do have 2 and 1/2 hours of music for it
but will only be one cd as of right now
they played some new stuff off it and it fucking rocked!
all i remembered off the new one they played was "Burning my soul" and
    "lines in the sand"
they are cool so everyone go buy the new cd when it comes out
    you will not regret it!

No Doubt has *three* cds. No Doubt, Tragic Kingdom, and
The Beacon Street Collection. I think *all* of theri albums are
great, but then again I like SKA quite a bit going back to when I
saw Madness in 1983. Although TK is more mainstrream than
their other efforts it still has some great grooves on it.

It's so weird that people are talking about them because I'm going
to go see them Tuesday at Arco Arena (Sacramento). I'm also
going to the Shoreline show on 5/30.

Also, if you like SKA then check out the Mighty Mighty Bosstones too.
They opened Lolapalooser in 1995 and were the best act of the
    whole show.

I don't know. I was turned off by their first single that I heard on the
radio. It just sounded stupid. And I hate bands that appear stupid or do
it on purpose (ie. Presidents of the US). The only thing I like about
this band is their classical guitar solo part in "don't speak" (is that
    the name of the song?).

Damn right I was there. On the barrier center stage! My review
should be coming soon. Maybe you didn't see me but did you see that
cool banner James held up for a second or two? I wonder who made
that? *evil grin* More stuff to come.

    Hi all,

Yeah I didn't hear anything about a double CD either. Maybe you and I are not hearing things right Steffen *shrug*.

Steffen> Any news about the show in Milan? Mike dislocated a Steffen> finger during Metropolis in Munich! I don't know how he Steffen> managed to do this! And this maniac continues playing Steffen> after this incident as if nothing had happened. I hope he Steffen> didn't hurt it too much.

He looked like he was in massive pain. More about it in my review *grin*.

See you all in Bonn next week.

spiffy thread, i think i'll post on it :)

    >and actually have their 2 cd's,and >>theyre at least talented, even if their music is not progressive or >>complicated,

this is not a flame to this guy in particular, because i've seen lots of other people do it too: why do some of you guys feel if something isnt "progressive" or "talented" you have to back up some reason for why its good and apologize for liking it? if its good, fuck it, its good! music doesnt revolve around progressive or fast fingers, saying you wont watch anything on mtv is just as ignorant as the dorks who say they wont watch anything not on mtv. john petrucci loves rage against the machine, mike portnoy digs public enemy, james labrie digs napalm death... the guys in dt dont let certain factors of music lacking in the presence of the bands they listen to affect them, remember, kids: neither do you! :)

    >I don't know. I was turned off by their first single that I heard on the >radio. It just sounded stupid. And I hate bands that appear stupid or do >it on purpose (ie. Presidents of the US).

i love these guys (pres of the us, that is). it depends to me, if they're joking around on a stupid riff, i think its a riot. if they come up with a really great melody and turn it into a joke song, it pisses me off :) dont waste good music! be dorks over crap songs!

    > The only thing I like about >this band is their classical guitar solo part in "don't speak" (is that >the name of the song?).

listen to some of their other songs you wont find on the radio, i'm sure you'll find a few other moments of spark in them.
