Gee. I must have an outdated copy of the subscription
information. I didn't see where it said "Talk about whatever the fuck
they want to". To be sure, I also didn't see "Talk about whatever the
fuck Chris Ptacek wants to". But gee, a little touchy aren't we?
Before you vigorously defend something, get the facts straight.
Develop a mind before you develop a mouth. Is it unclear that my message
was sarcastic? Do you need me to clarify? Okay, fine... I am NOT a Spice
Girls fan. I don't like the band at all. Is that whachewant
whachewreally really want? Regardless, no one will make the case that
these bands fit into the topic of Dream Theater or progressive music, so
    your argument is moot.
I'm not trying to limit your freedom of speech... I'm simply
certain that I didn't sign up for a No Doubt mailing list, and I had
gotten 3 jams where that was the majority of the content. IT WAS A JOKE.
    Lighten up.

    > I'd rather hear about some jammers' diverse musical tastes.

That's a personal preference. But then, this isn't the "ITCHAK
SCHWARZBARD" mailing list, So let's not talk about whatever the
fuck YOU want to either. Let's not bitch when I make a joke, and let's
not cry when someone makes fun of a band. I don't have the power or the
influence to stop someone from talking about something off topic. And
honestly, I don't care. That's not my intention. I thought some people
might agree with me, that the thread was getting out of hand, and so I
made a joke. It's not like I ran over your dog with my monster truck
    (yet).

Actually, no. Chris Ptacek doesn't exist. Chris Ptacek was a baby that
was born in Chicago, that died about an hour after its birth. James
LaBrie was experiencing immigration problems at the time of the I&W tour,
and he needed a quick passport and driver's license so he could go on the
road with the band. So, for $2500 (that's what, like, $18,000 in Canada?)
he became Chris Ptacek. So listen to him. He knows his shit. Especially
    about Napalm Death.

Yeah! Different is ok, as long as it's the same different as everyone
    else. "We fear change."

New Kids?? I thought the Spice Girls were Menudo in their past
incarnations. Or am I thinking of the cast of "Boy Meets World"? Oh,
yeah, *that's* the kid on the ACoS cover who grew up to become Marilyn
    Manson.

Since I've been on another one of my computerless treks, I've been
forced to actually experience the real world again ( gasp awe shudder to
think) and I found my mind wandering as usual to strange and exotic
opinions. The one thing that I cant get out of my head, is the way that I
    perceive live shows.
     For example.
After the Fixx shows, I saw posts about lyrics and particular comments
made between songs. I saw posts about every little fuck up or stray
change from the album. But when I think back to the show, I don't
remember ANY of that. All that I can place in my head about the actual
show, is flurries of emotion, the reaction of the crowd to certain
changes in intensity. The entire musical experience to me is like many
flashes of color and light, different levels of passion, intensities of
soul. I tend to focus more on the overall effect of the notes, rather
    then the actual notes themselves.
What does that make me? the Andy Warhol of Prog? Oh well....we all know
    Im a weirdo.

As far as the threads I've run across lately, No Doubt does suck as far
as precision, they play out of key and Gwen can't sing live. BUT, she
does have a stage appeal that I find unmatchable. She's got that David
Lee Roth fire that singers tend to be missing lately. I go to the shows,
just to watch her unleashed :)
Korg Trinity sniff sniff If only you could see how hard it is for people
to pry me away from it. Although I am tending to fall for the Kurzweil
2500 series lately. If only it had touch screens too.

Mike mentioned, last night at Melkweg, that their producer was at the gig too.
It was Kevin, indeed, and the surname I seem to recall was Ridley, but I could
be way off with my mind's way of storing names playing tricks on me (like
    sometimes it does).
Incidentally, do any of you remember the "would be producer" passing away
about a year ago? Turns out this wasn't actually the intended producer at all,
though of course anyone's death can provide a setback. Straight from the
    horse's mouth, folks.

And, for the first time in the three years I've been on the 'Jam, I got an EOJ!

I believe that someone was asking about the Ozzfest tour. The bands that I've been told are playing are Type O Negative, Pantera, Machine Head, Fear Factory, and Powerman 5000 (and of course Black Sabbath, duh) Some friends and I are trying to get tickets. They go on sale this Saturday and they're about $50 for decent seats. I suppose it's worth it for 10 hours of music. And this recommendation is for Mr. Jonathan Case. I'm a huge G-boys and if you liked SiYF then I suggest you get the first, self-titled album next. It has a lot of the same characteristcs as SiYF and it's an all-round good album. The thrid album Machine Fish is pretty good too, but it has a different sound than the first two. The band has a different guitarist, who I don't like as much and there isn't as much emphasis on good vocal harmonies. It's still pretty damn heavy though. - Jason

If anyone 'round here has similar seats for the July 2nd show and would like to trade then please reply!! My friend already has a pair of tix for the June 30 show. The reason that I'm trading my tickets away is so that I can see Rush twice!

Well, yesterday was quite a day. I was supposed to go to the Dream Theater concert with a friend of mine. He would drive us there. At 4:30pm he called me from work & told me he couldn't go ! There was some major crisis at work, and his boss wouldn't let him leave :-( I was going to meet up with sum people I know from the Ytsejam and IRC. I had only one hour left to find someone else to go with, in order to make that meeting. By the time I realized I wasn't going to find anyone to go with, let alone someone with a car,it was too late to make the meeting. So I thought, screw it all. At 7pm I got a call from a friend's girlfriend, wondering if I was still looking for someone to go with. My sister's boyfriend ended up driving us all the way from Rotterdam to Amsterdam ! We got there at 20:40pm, about 10 minutes after the show started. Still, it would have been so much cooler, if I had been able to see them with the guys I was supposed to meet. Missed my last chance to meet U-dAZ face 2 face.

The support act, "Enchant", was really great. I never heard any of their music before. I would hate to support Dream Theater, unless I was ABSOLUTELY sure I could deliver. And they certainly did, IMO At 9:45pm, Dream Theater got on stage and played for until 12am.

    Rick Audet said :

    > The setlist appeared here, more than once. So, without > further adieu, here's the setlist as found in Digest #2080:

Thanks for reposting it, Rick. Last night's setlist was *exactly* the same. As usual, they were amazing ! James sounded great too !

    About Derek :

He looks like he walked straight out of a bad "Starsky and Hutch" episode (is there one?), with the unbuttoned shirt and gold chain around his neck, the too-lazy-to-shave look and the white shoes.

BUT HOLY SHIT THIS GUY IS PHUQING AMAZING !

I mean, Kevin Moore is, was and will always be brilliant, but I'm certainly not going to have any problems getting used to Derek !!

A while back, someone posted about Derek Sherinian not fitting in as well as KevMo did. Screw that ! During the entire concert, he and John P. were looking at eachother, laughing and having fun !! Same thing between him and Mike P. As usual, John M. was too much into his own playing, to look like he was having any kind of fun at all (although I'm sure he did). Didn't see much of James, tho. He wasn't on stage during half of the concert. Lotsa instrumental stuff ! The sick thing is that most of the guys in Dream Theater don't even seem to TRY to sound brilliant. They just phuqing do ! Again, I'm very impressed with Derek and have absolutely no doubt that Dream Theater made the right choice with him.

Here's the bad news (I think). James mentioned they would go back to the US and record the ALBUM right away. No mention of a double album or EP. I'm not ruling out either one, but I think the EP is the way they will go. I'm sure we'll know pretty soon, though....

Sorry for such a long post. I hope sum of you enjoyed reading it.

BTW, I just heard from a *reliable* source that James LaBrie left DT to join this hot new metal band called "Winter Rose." Anyone heard of them?? :)

Just kidding guys...just a little levity.

PS...If anyone knows the model of Derek's Korg organ, let me know. It was actually in an article I transcribed from Korg's Proview magazine, but I forgot now. My band's keyboardist wants one.

There is no such thing as a bad Starsky and Hutch episode. One day I will own a red Ford Gran Torino. And you better believe I'm going to paint that white stripe on it. How about Portnoy as Huggy Bear, the pimpin' drummer who lays the phat beats?
