    Any new songs? Which ones??

How much does such a thing cost? Would be a wonderful thing to my
birthday-party. Guys, I'm worth that, ey!!! Should I perhaps start a Fund
    to DT-addicts?

Eyy!!,, seriosly, please give me some inputs on what to expect.
    Go private, if possible.

    Hey gang,
I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about or bought
the new Dokken that was supposed to come out yesterday I think. I quite
liked the last one and I hope the next one is as good. Any info posted is
    appreciated.
Also, I wanted to say a quick blurb about SPOCK'S BEARD. I so
graciously received some of their stuff on tape from Walter (Thanks!) and
have been listening to it a lot. Spock's Beard is really very cool, with a
lot of long songs and unique sounds to it. This is some of the most original
sounding stuff I have heard in a while (without sounding lame), and is very
enjoyable to listen to. It is hard to actually describe their sound, because
it doesn't seem to settle down into any form, because it changes a lot from
song to song. I just wanted to give my recommendation that you give them a
listen, and you prolly won't be disappointed!
ELEGY: If there are any elegy fans here, I would appreciate any info
about what they are like, cuz I heard a few interesting things about them,
so that sparked my interest. Any info here also well appreciated. Thanks.

    see ya folks,

Ahhhh, I just happened to hear that song MMM-Bop yesterday and wanted to puke. What the hell is wrong with MTV? Like everyone else, though, I'll be waiting for Precious Things and my Queensryche boot "Operation: Promised Land" if I decide to order that one. But I already have PT and The Darkest Of Winters on wait (at close to number 250 though meaning I'll be waiting till June probably). Ah, well, worth the wait, hopefully.

Just got WDATU (sorry, I'm behind), and I am glad I did. I now see the full potential of Afterlife and I love the song more. My friends got a big laugh out of hearing JLB say, "This one kicks serious butt!" I try to ignore them. It's a great disc, though. I like how MP breaks out into a major drum solo. Also, the band pauses for 15 seconds after which I hear a little tap on the drums before they break into the rest of the song. I love that part from March of the Tyrant (I've never heard the Majesty demos before :( ). Can anyone help me out in finding a copy of these? If that little bit from MotT is a premonition of all the demos, I NEED THEM (well, maybe not need, but would very much like to get).

    Hi-

I'm a drummer living in the San Antonio area (TX) looking for people to trade tapes with. Any interested guitar/bass/keybd player(s) email me and work out an arrangement wherein you could either email me audio files or snailmail cassettes of your original licks. I'll then dub them to my 4-track and add drum tracks. Or, just let me know what you're interested in and I'll send you some bare drum tracks that you can add your parts to. I guess I just live in a musically retarded part of the country - I've had a fuck of a time finding decent musicians to jam with. I play a pretty heavy, progressive style - glad to send you a sample. Just so you know, I'm 25, and I've been playing for about 14 yrs. (in all honesty, I've only taken my playing seriously for the last 4 years) I'm not going to list my influences/favorite bands 'cause I don't want to alienate anyone - I assume that if you subscribe to this list, then we must have some common ground musically.

Anyway, as I said - email me if you're interested - I've got lots more to say but I don't want to waste everybody on the lists time.

    Thanks-

There's another QR boot of the same show called "state of art" which is better than the above mentioned CD because it has 3 acoustic tracks at the end of the CD (bridge, silent lucidity, and lady wore black).

Well, there ya go. Limited, indeed. Sounds more like a newsgroup naming errorif there's an undercurrent so biased against two particular groups :) Screw what they think. If I looked at the world like many a Mindcrime do :), I'd be missing out on a whole heck of a lot of music.

    > I think the people I'm speaking of come from a progressive ROCK background > and AREN'T really willing to describe anything METAL as progressive.

That's their shortsitedness (sp?)... To me it's not whether a band is progressive or not, but whether the MUSIC is. One can take any genre and make music in it which is progressive (does that make sense?) It's hard to put into words, butKeith Emerson comes closest for me.

ACoS is a great example of progressive <multiple genres>. They take those measures that JP lays down in the intro and make them, uh, progress :) They add more instruments to the theme, and at the same time, turn the measures/rhythms inside-out and upside-down. Then they come back to the simpler form of the theme, slighty changed with different instruments, and make it progress again. I fucking love it! :)

What direction a band goes in with the genre they play makes just about no different to me as long as I can personally tolerate the sound in the first place. Heck, DT crosses the genre lines in the span of ONE song!

    > But, in defense of Usenet, I can't see a reason why we should view the opinions > expressed here as having any more weight or validity. So there's that...

Totally agreed... I was a little toungue'in cheeck with the 'real world' comment...

I was on Usenet when the number of newsgroups could just about fit on ONE screen! Let's put it this way: I've heard it said that, as a culture, Usenet doesn't scale very well :) I've learned to take a lot of the shit on there for just what it is: shit. This is not to say there isn't some signal amongst the noise.

    > What's Brand X? Progressive FUSION?!

Sure! Why not? Again, for me, Fusion would refer to the genre(s) while progressive would refer the structure of the song.

    > What about Queensryche

Sensitive area... I think I'll leave that one alone :)

    > But punk music is very anti-classic rock, traditionally, > where metal can be seen as having grown out of that tradition. What happens > when they run into each other? And what happens when it's fusion running > into death metal, like Cynic?

It's like when an irresitible force meets an immovable object, I guess ;)

Actually, it's a stupid state law involving lowering insurance costs for gas station owners. It sucks cause you have to wait ten minutes for some guy who doesn't know English to pump your gas and "forget" to put the cap back on, then charge you $3 for a "new" one the next time you're there! I've since stopped going to that gas station.

The thought process behind selecting a name like this must be staggering. Now back to that New England vs. New Jersey thing. Methinks, Mr. Merlo, you avoid a few undeniable truths. Cons against NJ: the word "youse" as in "youse guys"; TKR Cable (you have to live here to know); Cherry Hill, home of the original rich bitches and spoiled brats; the Jersey Shore; the Giants, Jets, Devils, Nets; fans of the aforementioned teams. That's the short list. And sure, DT plays here, but for crying out loud they play at the BIRCH HILL! Oh, as for this D-Man:

    > the Mets (tonight on ESPN! Yes!)

You are pure evil. Anyone who lives in New England and is not a Red Sox fan is devoid of a soul! Hey, Vermont's got Lake Champlain, the best skiing on the East Coast, Burlington, Carbur's, The Reggae Festival, and of course, my birthplace!

Well, I dunno. I've always been one of the people who fucks up the signal-to-noise ratio here, so I'll just mention a thing or two...

My initial attraction to Jamiroquai was Stuart Zender, who's a really strong bassist (he's profiled in the latest Bass Player magazine). The band grew out of the acid jazz scene in England, but has since mutated into some cross between jazz fusion and a classic R&B sound. Sort of a Weather Report/Brand New Heavies/Steve Wonder/Beatles-in-a-blender sound with a digiridoo. They've got three records, the most recent of which is being fairly widely distributed in the US at this point (the rest of the world got the record a little earlier). If I stop here, I'm probably being concise enough to not piss too many people off....

Five Gratutitous CD's: ====================== 1. Rush: Presto 2. Stanley Clarke: If This Bass Could Only Talk 3. Animal Logic: Rose Colored Glasses 4. Jamiroquai: Traveling Without Moving 5. Tori Amos: Hey Jupiter
