            Hey there! Some stuff...

#1. Heather said something about her experiences in live concerts...

I hear ya! I never drink or smoke anything when I go to live shows
,but man do they turn out as the best high I've ever had. From the
Awake tour I remember not one of the songs they played! All I CAN
remember is jumping around like hell, singing my throat sore and
being very, very happy =) (Oh yeah, there was this one period when
all I did was watch this one dude's fretboard with my mouth open,
go figure ;). Of course it depends on the band and the location, but
atleast it applies on any band I can scrape some dough to go see...

#2. There was an interview with Stratovarius some time ago here in Fin-
land. They said they were doing their first *South-American* tour!!!
Don't quote me on this, but I think they said it was gonna be
sometime in late summer. So all you Brazilian nuts start saving! =)

#3. Thanks to Bernd for the kewl Superior T-shirt. I'll be wearing it
when you play here... umm... when IS that ? =)

          Play it nice,

            Karri
            kkiviluo@cc.hut.fi

PS. It seems there's some premature ej...err...flammage here lately.
Sheesh, think of baseball or sumtin ;)

The pedestrians are pretty damn obnoxious though. However, you forgot my favourite feature of New York...the Nat Sherman cigarette store. And there was that guy at the subway playing sax...on of the most beautiful things i ever heard.

Never been to Vermont. I could sum up Rhode Island's coolness in one sentence though: DT played there. Other than that, it kinda sucked.

Angra is a really cool band. Well, I don't know if you know but they're from Brazil (my land, and I'm proud of it! :). But you should check their first album called Angles Cry. I think it is as good as Holy Land, if it isn't more. All the guys play great (just as in DT) and any DT fan should check out! Well, I think I didn't add much, but that's it... :-)

I just want to send out some serious props to a pair of Mikes for maing my day, week, month, semester, and maybe even year.

First to Mike Bahr for your incredible CD When Dream And Today Unite. This stuff is incredible, and everyone out there who wonders "what would WDADU sound like if James had sang it?" Buy this CD!!!!

Next to segway into my next shout out of props, a quote from the previous Mike:

"Right on man!! That night 12/29/95 at the Birch Hill was a part of Dream Theater history, and anyone that was there realized it."

Serious props to Mike out in PA who just sent me this concert. MB is right this stuff has got to be DT in their top form. All I have toi say is DT covering Metallica's "Damage INC." Good thing I was in the bathroom at the time, cause I nearly shit my pants! (Send me some email and I we can figure out stuff for your tape)

    Thanks a TON guys...

    -Shane

PS: Has the band said anything about whether or not they want people taping the EuroFix shows or not? It would make sense to follow suit with the Fix for 96 "ruling."

Here are some questions for those of you in the know.. What does it take for an album to go "gold" or "platinum"? I realize it is = based on number of sales, but: 1. What are the specific numbers required? 2. Where do these numbers come from? How do they figure out how much an album has sold? 3. Who are "they"? Who determines an album's status? 4. How do the categories of "platinum worldwide" vs. "platinum in the US" v= s. "platinum in Japan, eg" compare? I know that DT's Awake went platinum in Japan. If the number of sales required to accomplish this is the same as th= e number of sales required to accomplish worldwide platinum status, then wouldn't that imply that Awake is platinum worldwide? I'm guessing that the= numbers are different.. Any takers on this one? I'm sure some of you have more knowledge than me about how the "business" works.. cheers, -Neil. I've got a 2CD boot of the whole show from San Jose, so I've got the full setlist here for whoever wants it. Just mail me privately. Note: the San Jose show is easy to find boots of since it was broadcasted. Just try to listen before you buy. Some are better than others. :)

Regardless, it was a kewl performance. I like the live version better than the album or full-band versions. I about shat my pants when Chris sat down at the piano. I dunno why. Just didn't expect it. :) I figured Goeff'd play da keyz.

    > >Three other pre-Mindcrime songs > They would be "NM 156," "Screaming In Digital" and "Neue > Regel." I > wasn't familiar with _Rage for Order_ at the time, and I've heard > that the latter two were done only in part, but I'm not sure.

Yah. They sorta combined NM and SiD at my show. Since the two songs are pretty related (well, identically related) they knit together nicely. Threw me off for days trying to figure out which songs were what. :) Since I never was into The Warning and Rage then either. I liked em OK. New Neue Regel by heart at least. :) (And Take Hold, of course)

I'd try "Machine Fish" next. The EP is not a good representation of what the band is like, IMO.

Their third album (MF) or the self-titled debut would be good.

eye dunt undarstayund theese koncept. waht iz theese scrowling fing eye heere a-bowt?

seriously tho, its not messages that dont cator to my interests that bother me, its people that whine about messages that dont cator to their interests. its stupid having someone whip out the rule book and facts every time confrontation occurs. we wouldnt even need these rules if individuals could just keep their cool, distinguish between joking around and being a dick, and respect any topic that comes up. (i'm not condoning to religion wars or anything, but styles of music are hardly religion)

example and hypothetical situation: the rules state we cant talk about nine inch nails. the reasons being that people will get in a tizzy because they cant handle the fact that someone likes this music, and they feel the need to humiliate the band and/or posters upon the list. if this is eliminated, this rule wouldn't be necessary. i'm no believer in the impossible, i know this will simply never happen, but as time goes on "controversial" topics will arise, and if at least we can get MORE people to keep their cool than before, it'll be a lot easier to deal with this stuff and let it die out.

Jeff made a great point: scroll past it! Who's going to be the more mature in the situation, the one who lets people to their own, or the one who decides to pick a fight insulting someone and their band? it doesnt matter if its a joke, if its got a hint of malice, even satirical, its gonna raise hell.

anyways, PT track highlights very quickly, i'm omitting the songs you all may be familiar with:

i've had two listens, so far i pick up:

raise the knife completely rocks. its like the reader's digest condensed version of the full 12 minute version now. i recognize all the parts, this one will come in handy for when i have the new album in my hands but i only have 4 minutes before i have to leave my house and want to hear a cool DT song. quality is superb.

Lost Without You: Some say JP probably pleases Rena a lot with those fast fingers, but if i were her this would be the song that turned me on about john. <grin> simply beautiful guitar work. i almost wish he'd play slower at some parts so i could digest it more, but i have no complaints, except that i'm not a female and i'm not married to john ;)

SOLAAAAAAH groove: john myung grooving peacefully along. i believe this was an exercise from his experimental video, but its also a very cool track for kicking back with and enjoying the psychotics of Mr Myung. one portion is VERY remeniscent of the heavy awake jam they followed up Lifting Shadows with on the Waking Up the World tour.

among the other things in the covers medely: INNOCENCE FADED. mike bahr now officially rules, because i think this completed the list of having every awake song (with the exception of SDV of course) on a live recording. and yes, this song is as cool live as you'd think it be. another track with outstanding quality, and a real treat for the collectors in the house.

anwyays, i'm totally hyped to finally get the disc, i think it's been almost a year ago i sent that check, and it rocks even more because its like getting it for free now, since that was so long ago. hahah, and i bothered mike so much through the period of wait that he probably thinks i suck, but can't say "hey, cow dork, you SUCK!" because of these compliments. <evil grin>

looks like you're bound by chains to us crazy jammers, mike! ~Rip
