Nothin' wrong with long hair - I've got long hair myself. When I said
they were hair farmers, I was attempting to poke a little fun at the
ultra-glamorous band photos that adorn DT's albums - note the precise
flip of Portnoy's locks on the back of ACoS.

If you have RealAudio 3.0, you can tune in to WEGL, the Auburn
University radio station. Jamiroquai is in heavy rotation, and they can
be heard various times during the day.

    http://wegl.org/

Also, on Saturday nights from 9-midnight there is a progressive/metal
show. http://www.wegl.org/cafe.html is how to listen to it. Portions of
"Pleasant Shade" were played last Saturday, and the guy who runs the
show is a DT fan, so if you have nothing better to do on a Saturday
    night, check out WEGL.

    Thanks for the bandwidth :)

The "valve" in valvestate is there for a reason, it does have a single
12AX7 tube in the preamp section. I have an 8080 myself and am quite
satisfied with it. However I have no idea about your boost channel problems.

Hey, man, I was at the scoop shop (that's what the hipsters up here call the "ice cream parlor") yesterday, and a friend of mine got a double-scoop cone of Chunky Monkey. I asked her how it was, and she said...

"Man, balls of Chunk is where it's at!"

Therefore, Ben and Jerry's is prog metal ice cream. QED.

Have I mentioned Dr. Sin? (Yeah, I have. I always mention them. :) ) They're a pretty good band, really worth checking out. Besides that, I'm not much into brazilian bands...

I like'em very much. And I have a story about Edu Ardanuy (guitars).. When they opened Vai's Alien Love Secrets tour Steve told Edu, at the backstages right after the show, that he was the best guitarist (something like that).. Then Edu said no, YOU are! And Vai told him that he couldn't be as fast as Edu is. Faster than hell. :) ------------------------------

For those who are going to buy the Brazilian Edition of Angra's Holy Land: There is a print problem with the second edition. I don't know why and I have mentioned this but the 4th track starts to repeat an excerpt and never stops. It isn't like an scratch.. To reconize this edition look backcover.. It has the "Gravadora Eldorado" stamped in green/blue while the safe-copy (1st edition) has it in brown tones. The number is diferent too: bad copy is 957.194 while the good one is 9557.194.. One more "5".. :))

Well, hope this help anyone, speccialy Chung that will buy every Angra stored. :)

To me this is one of the main reasons DT hasn't made it big yet is because of the way they look. Here on the jam what's most important to us is music, but a lot of people judge a book by it's cover, so to speak. You look at the pics of the band and it screams

"Hair metal band that takes themselves *way* to seriously."

I think if I saw James LaBrie smile I'd fall over right on the spot. If you've seen the I & W vhs then you know these guys are closet comedians, I just wish they'd lighten up a little in their band photos.

That doesn't mean they have to be Jon Bon Blowme and be all teeth and phony happiness; just try to make the pics a little less intense.

I dunno dude, but the group pic inside of AWAKE makes me think of SOWN era Anthrax or current Megadeth. I see no pouffieness (sp?).

Their music is progressively getting heavier, hence they are getting more intense. (hopefully)

At the show in the Melkweg in Amsterdam, I think Derek was stoned as a monkey. He was constantly flirting with some chick in the audience and sometimes he looked to JP and MP like he was having an orgasm . I saw him outside after the show, but he ignored all the fans and walked away with his hands in his pockets and is face down. He played excellent though.

James called Amsterdam the city of smoke; later on he said this was an extremely quiet audience and asked "What did you take before you came here?" > > > about 10 minutes after the show started. Still, it would have been > > > so much cooler, if I had been able to see them with the guys I was > > > supposed to meet. Sooner or > later people will figure out what the hell is going on, and start > gathering

Some guys at the balcony yelled YTSEJAM, all the bandmembers looked a little surprised. Then James said "Fuck, what is this, a circus??" and JP played the main riff from ytsejam. I guess they thought Oh no, not again those computer nerds... I haven't spotted anyone with an ytsejam shirt. I didn't wear any myself, 'cause I don't have one yet. In case anyone noticed me, I was wearing a long sleeve Pestilence sleeve. I stood a little to the right of the audience.

The opening act Enchant had extremely little space to play, 'cause Mike's enormous drumkit and Derek's keyboards were set up already. I thought they were good musicians, but the show didn't really impress me; it could have been a little heavier to my taste. The singer wasn't to good either, but someone told me that he used to have a very strong voice on the first album. The Dream Theater show was great, just as I expected and just as other jam- mers have written already. They were all playing with a lot of enthusiasm and ease. I liked the new stuff, some of it was really heavy, like awake, it soun- ded very progressive as well. One of the songs reminded me a bit of Eve at the beginning, with Derek playing some spacy sounding stuff, it sounded very good live. John Petrucci was looking really weird when he played his solos, does he do this all the time, or may he have taken anything as well? He seemed like a nice guy; I alwasy thought that he may be a little arrogant, because of his talents, but he played very natural and cheerful. When James announced Take Away My Pain, he turned away form the audience and looked at his amps, maybe he was shy or anything?

Well, that's about all I can remember,

    Marc
