Deja f**kin' vu. I can't believe everyone let this crap go
untouched for so long. Usually, opinions of this sort get butchered within
hours...not to mention followed by endless hate-mail. Yours truly has
learned his lesson well, it's time for this dolt to learn his...

If *YOU* think No Doubt's songs are so simplistic (that you can write
them in your sleep), I'd sure as s**t like to see you LIST the chords (all
28 or so- verse, pre-chorus, chorus, & bridge) to 'Don't Speak',
    consecutatively, right here...

If "you" don't respond within a week, I'll list them myself, followed
of course by a few "opinions" of my own...

I have been hearing a lot about Yanni's Live At The Acropolis album on
the jam lately. I just want to add that I recommend this album to
anybody who likes music period. Also, if you like this, you would
probably like John Tesh's Live At Red Rocks album, or the video which is
even better. Public Television also shows John Tesh's Avalon Concert
every once and awhile and it is incredible. They also show the video
footage form Live At the Acropolis which you can buy. It's got a few
more songs than the album and some backstage footage and interviews.

Dammit! Another 4/5! I've scored zillions of 3's, several 4's (this was

    Two words: Spice Boys.

Think about it... :) James can be the rich one, Mike can be the tough one,
they can start a whole story about how they lived together for years, even
though Derek only joined a couple of years ago. Who cares about details?
The teenybopping public will buy anything the publicists tell them.

Europe Shmeurope! I want DT in Oz!!

Be buggered if I knew who'd open for them though... it'd have to be an unknown Australian band... I can't think of any relatively successful Oz bands who could play with them... --- On a different note... my news of the week...

I now have a grand total of 3 Fates Warning cds...

I got my first I Mother Earth cd, Scenery and Fish. Very good...

I saw a second hand Queensryche video, Live in Tokyo, from The Warning days. Anyone know anything about it? I probably won't buy it because I don't really want old second hand grotty videos in my VCR...

I think that's about all this week.

    See yis!!

    Two questions/comments:

    1) For you wanting to order from them. I ordered 5 discs total (2 double discs, and 1 single), and they took my order. I think that counts as a 5 disk limit to them...at least as it seems to me.

    2) How long did it take for y'all of you who have ordered from them to get your stuff? Please reply to this one by email, hate to interrupt a run of those kewl rad light bulb jokes. :)

I thought you just said that it doesn't matter what DT lloks like. If they looked like a 90s grunge band, but still wrote songs with the DT trademark, it wouldn't matter what they looked like. Only when the music was compromised would I say that I respect them less.

    Hi!

Just saw this thread. No problem with DT's long hairs. Actually I love them for that, just because they don't jump on the bandwagon like everyone else.

Ok, maybe I'm biased because I also have long hair, but it's always like "hey, this is the nineties, let's cut our hair" - and then they sound like shit. Just remember how Metallica's sound changed after they shortened their hair. Or Queensryche's. Soundgarden's. Or everyone else's.

Does anybody seriously think that people would start to buy DT albums if they cut their hair? You also have to cut your brain and musical taste to become successful nowadays...

    Ok, heres a story,

My Senior year in highschool I was on a marching band trip. We stopped to eat, and I saw a CD shop nearby. Some of us went in and we started looking at what they had. One of the cool things about this place was that they would let you listen to anything there before buying. At this time I had never heard of Dream Theater. I saw the Awake CD and thought "hey, cool cover" and went on looking. A little while later, I still hadn't found anything that I liked so I decided to try the one with the "cool cover". Before I heard it I could guess by the artwork that this would probably be more like something I would like, because it didn't look like the "artwork" on a Weezer or Green Day CD. I listened to a little of each track, and decided to buy it. I only know of two people in my hometown who listened to DT before I got that CD, and they weren't real big fans, and when I got to colledge, none of my friends there were big DT fans either, so if it wasn't for the "cool" artwork on the CD cover, I would probably have never heard of Dream Theater. just something to think about :), kevin hammer

Sadly this is true, too. When are people gonna learn that in order to make good music, you have to have long hair? If you don't grow your hair long, you can't write. It's impossible. Please open your Music Theory Textbook to Chapter Four, section VII, and read up on the Thriving Follicle Postulate, Theorum 9.8 (or was it 4.4 - 5.4?) > I think if I saw James LaBrie smile I'd fall over right on the spot. > If you've seen the I & W vhs then you know these guys are closet > comedians, I just wish they'd lighten up a little in their band photos.

No, look at Myung. He always seems to be philosophizing something, pondering Longfellow or Clint Black or something... :)

    > bands like TON and Marilyn Manson are so much better... And to top > it all off, he said this: "Dream Theater has only one gimmick going > for them, which is their 80's long hair."... I just laughed at this > fool's ignorance.

See? See? What'd I tell you? No band shots better be in the upcoming videos! I think they oughtta do a kewl clamation like Tool or a Mind's Eye trippy weird computer animated one. That'd be kewl. :) WTF, though? Doesn't Marilyn Manson have long hair? He looks like a reject from "The Crow" if you ask me. :)

Personally, I think they oughtta wear fire hydrants on their heads and sit on stuffed barnyard animals while they play. Mebbe get some organic clothing made of twigs and leaves and stuff while James makes soft warbling and chirping noises not unlike a Dove. Mike needs to play guitar, JP needs to play drums, JM the keys, and derek the bass. Then and ONLY then will they have what it takes to sell albums. Think of the novelty. People would by that in a second. Besides, people would buy the album cuz they'd think the band is just another chick band like L7 and they might score with the lead singer. :) (Sorry, guys.:)

I just know that if I found out that DT toked up before going on, I'd be very dissapointed. (Although that does explain the spacey intro to Lines In The Sand!)

    Hmmm...

Just a quick comment on the light bulb subject: it's actually rather amusing if you look at how the post is fulfilling itself, even though there was no light bulb even changed in the first place (barring the guy who _claimed_ he fixed it, of course). I think the two numbers I saw were like 1331 and 784? We've got to be up to a good 20-30 posts on light bulbs so far, and it's barely even gotten started.

Course, I just added more fuel to the fire I suppose... [insert favorite Monty Python scene involving Knights of (formerly) Ni here].

    DrX.

PS: Just so this isn't totally worthless... I got a disc from a band called Nevermore a week or two ago. 'Politics of Ecstasy' sounds quite a bit like the one Sanctuary disc I have (hmm.. wonder if it has anything to do with them having the singer and another band member _from_ Sanctuary... nah, probably not). Anyway, it's decent stuff if you like your music loud and fast with the evil death metal _vocals_ as opposed to the growling death metal style. Maybe similar to Death with vocals instead of growls? I dunno... not bad, but maybe I just haven't been in this sort of mood recently.

    Howdy there gang!

A few quick comments on some things:

About a week ago I read about some people seeing T-Ride's CD. Let me reinterate - if you see this CD, LET ME KNOW!!!! thanks.

I picked up the new Dokken CD, "ShadowLife." Having grown to really enjoy "Dysfunctional," I had decent expectations for this. Hmmmmm..... Still don't know. I really don't care for the production of this one. It's kind of a "alterna" mix I guess. I mean, I played a little of it to some friends and they said the first song sounded like TOOL! Imagine that, Dokken sounding like TOOL! Some may compare it to Queensryche's new one (which I like a lot). George Lynch has some killer solos in odd places on here too. Lyrically it's a mixed bag. I suck at reviews. Sorry. Overall, there are some good songs, a couple not good, production isn't for my tastes, and has some neat stuff too....A try before you buy. Not as good as "DYS" IMO.

Strapping Young Lad....heheheheh...neat stuff there! Just pure hate/rage/aggression/psychoticness. Pretty cool...if you are in a constant state of hate(and I like it).

I'm anxiously awaiting the new Conception and Threshold CDS. ANy thoughts on the new Conception?

Check out my webpage and see a demonic picture of me! (it's not really a music page, but it does have some DTC and other stuff relating to prog, but for the most part it is a pretty psychotic personal page. check it out!) http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/2553

later Phillip Cool CD of the day: Queensryche "Hear in the Now Frontier" which reminds me of a funny quote my friend said the other day: "It's like JFK, Jr. going out and f**king a prostitute. Hey fellow jammers! I was just watching TV the other night and I saw something ..well strange to say the least. I saw a comercial for the soundtrack for the movie "The Saint". The names of all these bands began flashing on the screen, and to my amazement SUPERIOR flashes up. I have seen this twice now, and its driving me crazy. Hey, Bernd is this you guys or just some other band with the same name? Ok, maybe it's just me. But at least I'm not talkin' about how crappy Florida is. I mean, 75% of the population here is older than 65, DAMN Q-TIPS!!!!!! Anyway, if anyone knows please let me know.

by the way just got Superior (fuckin' Rocks!!)from Knights of the Round, and it only took a week and a half to get here. Pretty fast, I thought. -- The Joser jrwee@gator.net !!Gators Rule Noles Bite!! http://members.aol.com/mindscap/
