With this new lead singer, and Phil Collins out, does anyone think that
they might return to their prog roots? I for one would love for them to
get back into their "Lamb Lies Down..." groove again. And hey, supposedly
this new guy sounds somewhat David Gilmour-ish...

    Hiya -

Just catching up on old Jams... I read that the reason Jordan Rudess did not
remain in Dream Theater is because he'd already accepted a position for the
Dixie Dregs. Can anyone else confirm that this is true? Was he actually
offered the full-time position for DT? I can remember hearing that he was
now playing with the band back in '94, but then, I saw the Manhattan Center
video boot from 10/28/94, and Derek was there. I had never heard of J.R.
before, but when James announced Derek, I was like "Uh... I don't think that
was the same name that I heard... hmm...." I later heard a rumor that Jordan
did not "fit in" with the band. (I read that to mean "did not get along".)
So, does anyone know the real scoop? I saw Rudess/Mortgenstein open on ther
Fix tour... BOTH GUYS ARE AMAZING!!!

    Peace... Matt T.

Sorry, but AOL4FREE.COM is a real trashing Trojan horse. Check out
    <http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/bulletins/h-47a.shtml> for the lowdown.

Note the .COM at the end of AOL4FREE--it's a DOS extension, not an e-mail
top domain. It's an executable. And if one has set one's e-mail program to
automatically execute attachments, one deserves every wiped disk one gets.
    IMHO.

And everyone should bookmark <http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html> to
check whether something is a hoax before passing it on. The flameage you
    save could be your own.

    Hey Jammer Types -

A while ago, I had read that Maiden planned on releasing a video game to coincide with the release of the X-Factor (kinda like Ryche did.) I've been to their web site, and they're hyping the game... I forgot the title. It is Burn? Scream? Some one-word title like that... Anyway, it must be out if they're talking about it. Does anyone know any info about it? Available in America? Able to run on PC? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me privately, or post to the Jam since Maiden is considered legal to discuss. :-) Thanx in advance... BTW, I love new Fates, but I need a few more listens to digest it all. There's a lot going on there! Dr. Mosh referred to it as "insane", I think. I'd agree wit dat. :-) Also just picked up "The Dark Saga" by Iced Earth... AWESOME!!! Bye... Matt T.

    Hello,

This is regarding that supposed AOL Virus going around. I too read about it in the paper. Yes, it's supposedly spread thru e-mail and as Chris said, you can't activate it by just reading your mail. But it is I guess an executable file and running it could wipe out your hard drive. It is supposed to be one of those Trojan Horse viruses that seem to be very popular today. Again, I DON'T KNOW if this is actually circulating, or what it will actually do, but you never know.

It is very possible that this IS going around. Back when I had AOL, I received in e-mail this so called "Survey" from someone claiming to be working for AOL. But it just didn't sound right... For one, the return address looked nothing like the usual AOL employee address, and there were a lot of typos in the original message. The mail had a file attached to it, a .EXE file. I was instructed to download it and run it in file manager, fill it out (they said there were questions such as how I feel about the service, etc.), and mail it back to the sender which would get me something like 20 free hours. Well, I knew better than to do that. What I did do though is contact AOL thru their Tech Support Online (in the free area). I asked if this was legit and they said "No, it's a scam, don't run it!" They also gave me an address to which I was to forward it to. So I did. I guess they can trace who sent it, it was an aol.com address I got it from, and that can at least stop the spread of that one. So if this is actually coming from an AOL address, and you're on AOL, go to Tech Support Live and ask for that address and forward it. Or, go to Keyword Search on AOL and do a search for this virus and you should get information about it and what you can do if you do receive it.

Heck, you can just delete it, I know, but if it helps trace it then forward it to that AOL address. THEN delete it :) If you don't have AOL and get it, just delete it. I figure it this way... today, you don't get anything for free and if someone offers you something that seems too good to be true, it probably is. AOL being free or even good service alone is too good to be true!

Off of that subject... perhaps it is known already, but this is for the Michigan jammers. I heard today that Queensryche will be playing here at Pine Knob Music Theater on July 17. Tickets go on sale THIS Saturday morning. I personally am not going. For one, it's on a Thursday night and I will most likely be taking summer classes (at night) and second, I am not happy with their new release and am just afraid that will be the focus of the show. But, just thought I'd post this in case anyone was interested :)

That's all from me for now, take care :)

    Irene

OK, I'd like to amend my previous statement. "Just *looking* at it can't do anything to a computer that's not owned by a total dumbass who would set up idiotic options like that." To reiterate: NEVER run a program that you don't know the origins of.

Or, just do what I did and switch to linux, which can't run dos code :)

All great points. Just wanted to add:

If you're *not* on AOL, and you get something like this from an AOL address, send mail to abuse@aol.com, and they can help you out with this stuff as well.

See what I mean? Betcha like green peppers, too, Syr. :) That's kewl, tho. I know my friend doesn't like Ray's voice, but he's gonna buy this album, since Ray's not shrieking as much as he used to. Poor guy gets migraines when people shriek. :P Personally, I think Ray's a gifted singer. Oh, well... We could rule the world...

Honestly, the keyboards themselves make all the difference to me. Eddie Van Halen could have played the keys for all I care. (j/k) But there's little music I buy anymore unless it has some keybords in it. KevMo was just the choice keyboard player; though they could have asked me. :)

Yeah, I have to agree that the band is lucky to be on Atlantic Records but don't they have enough of a following that they would be successful on a shit label like Mayhem Records for example. I own one Savatage bootleg (Mentally Yours) and find it extremely difficult to find Shes In Love, Live In Offenbach, Live In Denver, etc. Wouldn't you say that if someone like Mike Bahr or anyone for that matter released a limited edition bootleg (so many copies) that they could keep this from the record company. I suppose if Savatage would just tour in the US, a lot of fans wouldn't care as much about bootlegs. Ah, damn, I would die for a copy of Made In Heaven. Whats up with the price though? Damn! Do you have a tracklisting for this?

I'll have to agree that the song is about someone dreaming, possibly drifting in and out of sleep, and the alarm clock at the end is the person's alarm going off in the morning. But I think this is definitely apparent after remembering a line from the last "movement," if you will, of the Ivory Gate of Dreams:

"As dreamers awaken In sleepers somber shade."

"Sleepers sober shade?" "A pleasant shade of gray?" You figger it out...

And has anyone else noticed that Frank Aresti wasn't thanked in the CD booklet? What, is 10 years with a band not long enough to deserve some recognition?! Just a thought... Debbie Seeger DSeeger@juno.com
