Can somebody tell me if the new Queensryche album is a concept album? It
surprisingly popped up in the WVU paper this morning, with a question as to
whether it was or not, so I thought I'd help the guy out.

    Thanks for the info,

..On inane lyrics...if you think that the non-english-as-a-first-language
bands have inane lyrics, try listening to the Ban Valen lyrics, especially
on the earlier albums. Some of later lyrics from the Sammy era begin to
    range beyond a dim lightbulb.

..On Gary Cherone...HE IS TOO GOOD for Ban Valen. To the present, they
have never matched the intelligence & morality of GC; perhaps that's why
the rumors fly that GC will NOT be the new front man for VH. Plus the fact
that GC is probably unwilling to stoop to VH's lower standards. I don't
think VH could ever match the EXTREME musical range, "More than Words" to
    "Rest in Peace".

Contemplating these facts, I can say with assurance why I find VH to really
be a mediocre band: their lyrics suck, and so does most of the music (Why
do they need to do so many covers??). EVH is a very good guitarist. He'd
just be better doing it with someone & somewhere else.

No argument. (Even though you gotta love Women in Love: "Honey if you're
needin' a woman just as bad as me, you oughta be goin'.")

OK, whoa, time out. Van Halen has never wanted to be anything but what
they have been. VH is a party band. Big fat grooves, kickin' guitar
work, songs that anyone can sing along to, music that you can't sit still
listening to. "Intelligence & morality" was never something VH aspired
    to, ever.

Is this a lower standard? No, just a different one. Extreme's lyrics
were more... personal to Extreme. Dave and Sammy's lyrics were about
having fun, getting laid, getting drunk, going to parties, etc.
Different, obviously, but not better or worse.

    (And remember who copied who.)

    > Contemplating these facts, I can say with assurance why I find VH to really

Now I have *no* idea what you're talking about. VH's music couldn't
possibly suck. Eddie has been the single most influential rock guitarist
of the past 20 years. All of the 80's guitar heroes (like Nuno) were/are
doing shit that Ed either invented or popularized. Hell, the reason I'm a
musician now is because I saw VH live once and said, "Yeah, I want to do
    that."

As for covers: huh? If you're talking about the album "Diver Down," that
was DLR's idea. If you're talking about concerts, yeah, they've done some
Zep covers, a Stevie Wonder cover, some others, as tribute to their
influences. Don't tell me you've never played a cover tune.

    > EVH is a very good guitarist. He'd
    > just be better doing it with someone & somewhere else.

That's a whole other conversation. My gut instinct says he wouldn't,
because he's been playing with Al his whole life and Mike for going on 25
    years.

Extreme vs. VH is an unfair comparison. They're different bands. That
being said, I can't wait to see what Gary adds to the band. I'm looking
forward to "Mach III" as much as I'm looking forward to the new DT and
    Fates.

are Mediums or a smaller than average Large. I could be mistaken.

Um... please explain this theory? This is not a flame. People
don't normally get bootlegs as the first item(s) from a band. You didn't
go out and see Mind Control and say "This is so great... I'll go buy
I&W!". It's usually the other way around. In that sense, all bootlegs do
is take from the bands. There are a few exceptions... some people sell the
boots for no real profit, in which case, they're doing the fans a service.
But the majority make a pretty penny stealing from bands.

This is indeed the correct title. I just saw today a review of the
Stratovarius 'The Kiss Of Judas' single posted today. I recently bought
the Japanese 'Black Diamond' single which contains the following tracks.

    Black Diamond
    The Kiss Of Judas
    The Kiss Of Judas (demo)
    We Hold The Key (live)
    Fourth Reich (live)

So 4 of the 5 tracks are the same as on the TKOJ single. Couldn't they
just put all six tracks (these five plus Uncertainty) on one single?
Black Diamond is a killer track, one of the best Stratovarius ever has
done, The Kiss Of Judas is very good too, I didn't like it at the first
listen, but it grew on me, so now I think it's a very good song. The
demo TKOJ is almost the same as the album version, the only big
    difference are some changed lyrics.

BTW: the new album 'Visions' will be released on April 21th, and the
    tracks will be titled:

    Black Diamond
    The Kiss Of Judas
    Forever Free
    Before The Winter
    Legions
    The Abyss Of Your Eyes
    Holy Light
    Paradise
    Coming Home
    Visions

However, there is a *lot* of great music out there, even right now, for those

PI airs the same day the show is taped unless it's one of the one on
one ints that Bill Maher does, those are taped for days off. So if it's
taped on the 4th it'll air on the fourth.

Also if you watch PI Bill usually announces who the next nights guests
are, so watch the 3rd and he should say if Geoff will be on or not.

Sorry for the extra post. I've been trying to limit my replies since I'm
    in
ack mode now I don't want to take up a whole digest. But I think this
is of interest to a lot of people here and I'd hate to see anyone miss
it who wants to see it.

    Let's analyze:

    This is what I wrote:

    >I also hear this Warrior Soul band some
    >one has been pumping here on the jam. This is sooooo not
    >prog. I am not saying the person was implying that they
    >were, but...if you were planning to buy it - listen first!
    >It sounds like lame LA Guns to me...

Ok. What gives me the right to complain? First of all I am
not complaining. I am merely stating my opinion with regard
to Warrior Soul. I did not complain about the music WS
play. I only said that before a reader of this mailing
should buy the product, he should listen to a sample first.
I pointed out that someone was advertising WS in his .sig
file. This led *me* to believe the band probably had some
sort of progressive leanings, although incorrectly. Since when
has the jam had a rule which stated that only positive opinions
may be presented with reference to any band?

    Then someone else bitched:

    >Okay, to the person complaining about Warrior Soul- its a part of my
    >signature for my homepage. I'm not forcing anyone to listen to it- if you
    >hate it, fine, if you love it, great!

Let's suppose I hate it. If it is "great" me to feel thusly - why did
you post? Thank you, though, for that permission to dislike a band's
    music. I needed that.

    >I don't just listen to prog. The music
    >I listen to includes stuff all over the place- Dream Theater, Carcass, Fiona
    >Apple, Flotsam And Jetsam, Garbage, Imperial Drag, Lillian Axe, Nixons,

    >Paradise Lost, Poe, Ramones, Mindfunk, Enertia, Arcade, Anthrax, etc. I try
    >to listen to as much shit as I can and keep an open-mind.

Fine. I like many of those bands, too. However, I try to avoid listening
to shit, to use your coinage. Therefore I posted the warning to others that
said product just might of the excremental variety...

    > I don't think
    >Warrior Soul sounds anything like LA Guns, personally. LA Guns lyrics were
    >mindless, Warrior Soul has something to say.

I never insulted the lyrical content of WS. Read my post, which I have
generously enclosed above. In my opinion, which by definition is subjective,
The music sounded like latter-day LA Guns. Not old LAG, but newer. If you dis-
agree - that too, is an opinion. Fine.

    >Basically, I don't feel like
    >arguing, if I wanted to do that, I'd go in a chatroom and call someone an
    >asshole.

Yet you still managed to bang out a post criticizing me for offering my
opinion. The subtext seems to imply that *I* am the above-referenced asshole.
I disagree. I never said, "NO ONE BUY WARRIOR SOUL - THEY SUCK THE ROOT!!"
I just advised the readership to exercise a little caution by listening
first. Maybe someone will listen and like.

To each his own - be it shit or gold.

    GO WINGS!

    Kevin
