Derek did nothing but play throughout his teen years, so his parents
bought him one, instead of say, a car.

That is cool, but there's just one thing--I had proposed that everyone
do that anyway at the last Ytse-Con. I think that DT was orginally
supposed to go, so I figured everyone could just jam with the guys.

well, i got my first 200 dollar guitar in sixth grade, 400 dollar acoustic in 7th, and 800 dollar jackson in 8th.. and i'm proud to say i paid for them all myself, and its not because i have a big allowance, or rich folx, but its because every summer i work my ass off mowing lawns up the ass. and the older i get the more lawns i can handle and the more cash i rake in :) odd jobs are also a payoff, i'm like a psycho who'll do anything for a buck when i need something, and i usually end up earning enough to buy it. that might have been one of derek's tricks. ~Rip

Ive recently found out why all this happens too.. there is the radio and everything, and scalpers always have connections, but Im pretty sure employees can get whatever they want too cause I went to Ozz-Fest at Desert Sky in Phoenix last year, and my friend Lindsey's dad (who is the doctor there) got us front row tickets like the week before, after it was sold out, and we got backstage softies. Oh yeah, did I mention he me and 5 other Rush fans front row tickets and softies for the show on May 8? Maybe Ill see some of you Phoenix Rush fans there : )

I 100% agree with Rip, derek was NOT a dick. He didnt play on those CDs so why should he sign it? That would be like me walking up with a Rush CD and saying Derek can you sign this? I thought Derek was really kewl also, he just had that cool kinda presonality, just like another one of the DT fans in the store. At first he didnt look at my Fan Club CD good enough at first and he said he wouldnt sign it:-) I had to show it to him again, and he was like oh yeah :-)

Has anyone on the 'Jam ever ordered from Kiss the Stone records directly? They've got quite a few bootlegs I'm considering ordering, and I don't want to get ripped off (I can't remember if people said not to order from them during the bad CD dealers thread). Any info via personal e-mail would be more than appreciated.

I've dealt with them several times and have NEVER had a problem. I even had a return once and they agreed & shipped a different title. I *highly* recommend them.

But HURRY! at the end of the month they go out of business. Right now they're selling their cd's at $12 with a minimum of five discs. I just ordered six titles from them this week and they'll probably be here by the end of the seek or first part of next.

    Jammers:

Do any of you Meshuggah-ites out there have any news about them? Their sole web page is gone and I've been wondering what's been up. Also, and perhaps more important, I would really, really like to find the Contradictions Collapse album, and would appreciate any help thereto.

Secondly, does anyone have any information at all on John Hendricks, one of the people thanked in the I&W booklet? (<-DTC!)

Private e-mail on either of the above requests, please. :)

Lastily, in the tradition of somebody else on the 'Jam (whose name I've forgotten <g>), I have been selected to do my own radio show here at UCLA. Very exciting indeed to be able to play metal in an alternative world (nothing wrong with that world, per se, but I feel left out...). Also, as you LA jammers know, KLOS has gone lame-o-rama and so now my show has the distinction of being the only metal show in LA (KCAL not withstanding). Pretty neat, eh? Pretty gimicky, too. :)

Ok, much bandwidth wasted on babble, burble, and banter. Please don't bicker or start a brouhaha. Bye.

To the dude who bought the JPM100:

How much did you pay for this thing? As for guitars, I'm more of an ESP guy myself, but I love Ibanez basses. I just bought a SR1200, and it's damn sweet. Neck-thru, active pickups, plays like a dream.

When the hell are we going to get a clinic in Detroit? I saw Andy Timmons a few years back, but that would be nothing compared to JP and DS!

Who is playing backup guitar on unplugged in Europe tracks that appear on Acoustic Dreams? IN LSOAD, I hear Myung's bass, JP's guitar, and another guitar that is playing the keyboard parts. Is this Derek? Just curious.

Close, but it's the 88 wieghted-key version with the Prophecy board, the 543MB hard drive, playback sampler, SCSI port, etc. They are DAMN sweet. This thing's it's own recording studio. The 76 key version is just the Trinity Pro. I'm gonna look into whether it would be more cost-effective to get the cheap no-extras model and get them added on later as I can afford them. I really can't put forth $3500 at this time for one, but $2000 doesn't sound too bad. Actually, MP did a lot of harmonica work on Images and Words. In fact, that's why he had to use triggers, the harmonica kept bleeding on to the drum tracks. Then right before the final mix down, he had a bad dream about being chased around New York by a bunch of giant harmonicas, so he erased all of the harmonica tracks.
