Tickets for QR at Nissan Pavillion went on sale Saturday at noon. I get to
Hechts at 5 of and there was only one person in line. This guy wanted
Tina Turner tickets though. He ended up not ordering and the lady said QR
tickets weren't up yet, but I ended up with 7th row in the orchestra pit
center. I was psyched!!!!!! I guess the fact that the Baltimore Sun had
no mention of the tickets going on sale had a part to do with it. Thank
    God for the internet!

Eric Johnson at Bohagers in Baltimore on Wednesday. I saw that there will
be an opening act. Anyone know who they are?

I got backstage at the Awake show because DT's tour manager was
the shit. Anyways, while talking to the band, I mentioned to James that I
thought Awake was the best album I'd bought so far that year, and he was
quick to say "I don't know... wait till you hear the new Queensryche."
I think he's different on the stage than he is in person. I mean,
think about it. You're working your ass off (and any of you who don't
play any instruments or bother singing, let me tell ya, it IS work... just
very rewarding work), trying to do something very very precise, and shit
happens that screws it up, you may well get upset. I'm no tjustifying
yelling at people or anything... but I understand it.

i think it's time i step in here.

i post a certain way for a certain reason: generally to
get a rection. whether it's positivly or negativly, it matters none to
me. i've seen too many posts where they just say "here's my opinion blah
blah blah" and that's it. the mark of any good newgroup (or newsletter,
as the jam is) is the thoughtfull balance between humor and worthwhile
conversation. let it be known that i have pissed off a member of dream
theater (and have since appologized for stepping across another line i
didn't mean to cross) and i have pissed a lot of you off.

the reason is simple: the more you diagree with sometning, the
more you'll try and show the others side your point of view...and
hopefully, that's done constrctivly. do i think chris went over the
line? yes. did i think that -i- may have gone over the line? perhaps.

notice the kind of issues that were brought up following the
post. some of them were moronic (lars, espically) and others really made
me stop and think. there's a reason i say "i welcome all intellegent
comments," mainly because i like to see the other side. only through
seeing the other side (not always agreeing with it) makes me not
close-minded; it makes me a better person. to quote a song from an old
    hardocre band:

"there's no purpose in saying you're sorry
when you did what you thought was right
you can always learn to accept new ideals
if you can risk your hypothetical pride
i'm not looking to change the world
pushing politics is not my concern
i just have a wish to improve myself
i've realised there's so much more to learn
             to act...to think..for myself...with no regrents
and to find what is real."

just something to think about. comment are always welcome.

Hahahah! If we told you, then we'd have to tell EVERYONE, and
then our tricks might not work by the time DT gets to US again! J/K
Actually, there's only two things you can do, I think. You either
have to know someone (i.e. a band member, a tour manager, concert
promoter, etc, whom I know none of) or you get to the venue several hours
early (if the show opens at 7PM, you are there at 2 PM.) so you are
present when the band arrives. I find it's rare that at any show the band
will use the side entrance to get in. Sometimes they use it to grab a
smoke during the opening act, and sometimes the shows are just too popular
and EVERYONE is there at 2 PM, but generally, the front dorrs are where
I do my begging and pleading.
Of course, at the Jason Becker Benefit, I was able to talk to the
mighty Greg Howe as he was waiting for a cab. No one else recognized him.
    :)
Until recently, I thought it would be a good idea to wear a
Ytsejam t-shirt... but now I'm not so sure. I will anyways, but I doubt
it will help my cause next tour. :)

    Take care!

Sorry. I don' have no info about new Crimson Glory, but let me tell ya
    something about TNT.
They'll play tomorrow at our area (Osaka JAPAN). And latest album titled
Firefly is CRAP. Yes, there're 2 nice songs ("Daizy Jayne" and "Monthes Of
Sundays"), but most songs on this album are grungy songs. Can you believe
that? I think grunge days are over and it's very nice timing to move to
more artistic music. So I wanted them to play Morning Wood (Tony's post TNT
project with Al Pitrelli) style music. But this wasn't happened.....

     Thanks.

    Hey guys!
Just got back from a long weekend, plowing through a pile of
Fate-seejams (the subject tells you what number I'm on). Can someone in
ack mode do me a favor and tell me when the love/hate APSoG flame war
ends? My retinas are begin to melt... Or is that retinae...
Oh, and by the way, I don't have to read reviews of the new Fates to
know whether or not I'll like it, so you can stop offering them. I
believe custom has been in the past:

    1) Jammer asks about band/album.
    2) Numerous Jammers reply in Jam about said band/album.
    3) Several Jammers ask for future reviews to be in private mail.

It's a valuable system, and it works well. I think we have gotten
everyone's impressions of the new Fates album. If I get to Jam 2515,
which is the last on in my box right now, and this hasn't changed be
prepared for reviews of the last three albums I got: INXS, Cheap Trick,
and QR. Yes, that's right ANOTHER HitNF review. You have been warned.
Maybe I'll go get another Chris Isaak album and review that too. I think
    there's still one I don't have...

Jon Drenning, Crimson Glory's guitarist, writes for my magazine (Sportsform)
as our Southern region correspondent and our sister publication (College &
Pro Football Newsweekly) as an NFL draft correspondent, and he has been
keeping me up on the Crimson Glory reunion. When I heard from him last, he

on the new album, but I've been told the new vocalist is very good.

    Hello Jammers,

Just a quick line to you all. I really love the New Fates Warning, a
Pleasant Shade of Grey. Incredible melodies, complex, Zonder's drumming
is incredible. And Kevin Moore on the keys. I keep getting the feeling
that I like this album far more than the new Dream Theater when it
eventually gets released. Just a gut instinct from someone who thought
Awake was great stuff when he first heard it, but I also like the recent
Fates Warning albums as well. That's all,

    Mike

    Hello,
I'd like to begin by saying that I refuse to accept responsibility for
not knowing all of the information that was in the last twenty or so
Jams. I did not want to read all the Fates flames and thus skipped over
most of the material. That being said:

    >Okay, here's what I'd like you to understand.
    >It's lonely being a FW fan. This list is one of the very few places
    >where we can talk about stuff like APSOG and find other people who...

And here's what I'd like you to understand: a month ago, I was feeling
the same way about Saigon Kick. No one talked about them anymore and all
my friends hate them. So what did I do: got off my ass and "created" a
mailing list with the help of other fans (check my sig). I'm not
knocking Fates in ANY way, but if there are so many fans on this jam,
why don't you help the BAND out and make a list. It helps gain support
for the artist: case in point, the petition may not have ever happened
    without the Jam.

Yes, Ozzy is suing with the help of the ACLU (God, I'm actually rooting

Punk is in no way crap. Most 90's punk is crap. Most 70's and early 80's

The above is probably the single most intelligent statement I have seen
on the Jam in the last few months (not a joke). I commend Itchy for his
intelligence, and his balls in actually hitting send.
My friend Matt is a victim of pop culture and freely admits such, but
he says being so adaptable saves him money. He can listen to the radio
all the time and never worry about when the next "big thing" will come
along and he'll have to buy all new CDs. My other friend Ed hated Oasis,
until they got played every day on the radio, now he worships them. Yes,
    Ed is a fool...

Word is that it is pretty good, if you're into them. I only own "Realized Fantasies" (which I like a lot) and "Tell No Tales" (which is decent). It's quite possible that a lot of jammers will like them. They have DEFINITE prog elements, though they are mainly a melodic hard rock band. Great guitar player and a singer w/ excellent range.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, "Take Away My Pain" is my favorite of the new DT stuff I've heard and is destined to rank amoung my favorite DT songs of all time. The lyrics, like you said, are amazingly powerful: they're fairly simplistic (at least compared to other JP works like "Metropolis" or ""Voices") but the song is so personal that to dress the words up in fancy imagery or literary allusions would detract from it's intent. And as far as the music goes, I love BJ (Bon Jovi, that is:) and AOR also. It's definitely the most "commerical" song I've heard of the new stuff and it is also the most catchy. To call it "bombastic" I think is a huge exaggeration. It's not like they have german opera going for backing vocals or anything. It is an electrified ballad of the highest caliber. And as far as it not being appropriate as a song about death, I think we each deal with death in our own away. I wouldn't say that the song is "happy", per se; in fact, one of the things I love about the song is the contrast between "poppy" music and depressing. As for the Another Day comparison, I think it's fitting that both songs have a similarity, since at least it is my understanding, both songs have a connection to JP's father.

I see lots of people comment negatively about this song. I feel much different about it. That song just seems to touch a special side of me. I think it may be the way James sings it. It's full of emotion and he really gets it right. I know balls and chunck is where its at but I really think this song will be a real highlight on the new album.

Coupla nights ago I had the strangest dream.

Dream Theater was going to play a show, but their venue was the local Cloth World. (A typical place where you go to get fabric, sewing supplies, crafty things like that. Not a typical place for a concert.)

So there I was, doing my press thang and trying to get the band out of their "dressing room" (aka the manager's office). The truck was parked inside, and the sides came off -- voila! the stage!

So the band gets up to do their stuff, there are by now a whole lot of your typical metalhead fans, then some lonely stringy-looking blonde dirty guys in black, then a few women dressed in goth (like me I guess), lace and black spandex and denim or leather. Whatever. A lot of black, a lot of dyed hair. A lot of body decorations.

The guys didn't even do a soundcheck, and James got all pissed off, and then the others decided they'd just do air-guitar and instruments. They were all dressed alike in denim vests, jeans, and cowboy boots, and sat down in a row with their backs to the audience.

The crowd was really pissed and when the band went back to the dressing room the people just got up and walked out. I was so embarrassed, I felt like I hadn't done the promotions right (although I hadn't been hired to do it). I got up on stage and begged them to come out (the mics were wired into the store intercom). But by that time they'd already left.

    What a depressing dream!
