A good point, Itotally agree with you. Anyway he was paid for this
right? And why would he do anything virtuosic, while he has his own
material to think of? Any thoughts?

That's a bummer... y'know, despite all that shit going on on both the UK dates I saw, they still went on to play about 5 songs with just the guitar combo things... I want one of them for my guitarists to use cos they were loud as fuck...

or better yet, don't download any crappy sounding .ra files and just wait until the album comes out. when the test for echo sound files circulated, i jumped right in and downloaded all i could. it totally ruined the experience of listening to a new album for me. i think i definitely would have enjoyed t4e alot more had i not listened to the sound clips before hand.
i've decided not to make that mistake twice and avoid listening to any of the material until i hear it the way it supposed to be heard; from the studio in a nice clear, clean polished format. maybe you guys should consider it as well.

Hi everybody! Some news about some great bands: Symphony X will start to record their 4th album soon, it is planned to be released September/October in Japan and some time later in the rest of the world. Their guitarist was a guest of my favourite metal radio show some days ago. He said he was influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen... now who would have thought of that!! ;) But seriously, Symphony X has got much more than Malmsteen. I would have preferred a tour first instead of a new album, though.
Vanden Plas just finished the recording of their new album. It's entitled "The God Thing" (if I remember correctly...) and will be out September 5th (at least that's the date for France). I heard a song of it which starts like a piano ballad and later gets more progressive than they ever were. Should be a great album!!! :)
Finally, Shadow Gallery's new album should be out in June. I missed a John Petrucci guitar clinic some days ago here in Paris because I didn't know about it. It was kind of a short-term thing so I didn't see any announcements, neither in magazines, record shops nor on the internet... I really thought things like this couldn't happen to me............ Merde!
But I shouldn't complain too much, anyway I just saw DT, Enchant, Superior and Lemur Voice. That's not too bad. :)
Bis bald,
Ties

Wow, that's some kind of coincidence....a very similar thing happened when I saw them in Boston. And, believe it or not, another very extememely similar thing happened when I saw them in Providence. And, from what I've heard, a very similar thing seems to happen at *every* *single* show.
Personally, I would have fired the lighting crew by now.
In case you didn't know, that whole sequence af events is part of the show. Very entertaining, but at no point was anyone really in danger. :)

You're not alone!!! This is fucking bullshit! I called up HMV on the US release date and asked them if they had any copies, so they told me it was delayed until the 29th. So I stop in at the HMV at the Scarborough Town Centre yesterday hoping to grab one of the two copies they've ordered... and they say "umm... no, it didn't come in, it's been delayed again".
I was going to call up a few of the bigger music stores downtown and see if any of them have it, but I guess you just saved me the trouble. Anyway, I think it's Metal Blade's fault, not HMV's, because I haven't had this problem before. Anyone have their e-mail address? We need to tell them to get off their asses here. Am I going to have to go down to Buffalo to get it? Sheesh.
>Now I know what to expect when Dream Theater's new one comes out in >the U.S.
Don't worry, I doubt that will happen. When ACOS came out, I was at the HMV near me the minute the store opened and they had several copies of it. That's why I think this is just a screwup by the record company...

All of this Metallica stuff is staged. At the concert I went to some tech guy went swinging about 20 - 30 feet above the stage on a power line or something and then looked like he fell to his death :). The paramedics came out and took him out on a stretcher. James also said "What the fuck" when this happened. Coincidence? My friend noted however that if Metallica didn't do all the hollywood shit and leave for 15 minutes near the end of the show, they could have played 2 or 3 more songs.

Congratulations, you have just heard DT do a COVER song. It's Rush's Tears, on the Mind Control bootleg. Quite a good version I must say... At least on the boot, don't know about the file. And weren't all those files supposed to be removed from the web anyway? Piece of advice to any readers: don't bother listening, the files sound like crap. Wait for the music to be how DT wants you to hear it: album and at a live show. Out of curiosity, do dex's (prmrkstx@hotmail.com) posts come out all screwy on everyone's mail, or am I alone here? I went to Irving Plaza on Monday to see Ben Folds Five, who I have mentioned once before on here. Anyway, the point of my post is this - if you can, go see them - they were incredible. They are excellent musicians, a pianist (huh-huh he said pianist), a bass (both electric and stand-up), and a drummer. There set was extremely tight, the music and vocal harmonies were great, and the show all together was fun........definitely check them out - it's only $15, but get there after the opening band, they (Komeda) were unendurable.........oh, and BenFoldsFive also played a little bit of Yes (don't know what song) and did a funny 80's metal hail Satan-type spoof song - really funny stuff.....
On another side note, I was deemed a Sweepstake winner and was told to expect my winnings check in the mail soon!!!! I checked my mailbox yesterday and there it was!!!!! The sum - a whopping $1.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeeeeee-haw! Look out, candy machine, I'm comin' atcha wit a VENGEANCE!!!!!

Several times in your post you apologize for having opinions. That strikes me as odd. > Tears: > WHAT??!?!?! DT does a 3 minute song? What happened here? Is it not > finished.....no it ended. Uh oh....It's nice, but nothing like TSM. > Hmmm....what's the deal here?
Where's the importance of song length? Are you saying a 3:00 song isn't as good as a 20 minute song? I like Wait for Sleep more than ACoS personally...

Actually these > clips sound like a bad dubbing of a demo tape because on the end of > WAYN you can hear it being stopped.
This is a prime example of why the band didn't want the music released. You're giving bad reviews (I think entirely because of the recording quality, because of the many reviews I've seen of these songs when they were being performed live in the US) of material that is not released, and shouldn't be public in the first place. I'm not going to defend the samples (partially because I won't listen to them) or the band's new music (because I haven't heard it either) but knowing their past, and the way they've been developing, as well as the intense reactions the people at the shows have been giving, I truly hesitate to believe that the band is recording trash next month. Real Audio limits frequency response. Often you can't hear ride cymbals, high hats, and double bass, when it's not cranking. If all you hear is the snare and a kick every once and again, you're probably missing most of the drumming. This is just a bad situation, I think. Don't expect these clips to be anything like the album. I'm not even going to get into saying "Don't get these clips" because by now you all know what I think of that situation.
> Well anyways I'm eager to hear what others have to say.

I'm sure it's not on sale because as recently as last week the show was scheduled for either the Blockbuster-Sony Center in Camden, NJ or the Tower Theater (a stone's throw from Philly's city limits in Upper Darby). I was misled into believing that tickets would go on sale last Saturday, but it was actually the Scranton, PA show that went on sale, not the Philadelphia-area one. I appreciate the fact that people want to defend their own or someone else' position; but if you can't do it without pissing all over each other (bluntly as well as sublty), take it to e-mail. There are plenty on here who simply just don't need to see it multicasted. We get it, OK?

Your definition of 'the average DT fan' does not coincide with mine. I'm interested in many things prog. If your perception is that the things you mentioned above are a sad aspect of the list, then maybe the Page Down key will cheer you up.
I've attempted the last couple of times to post some things related mostly to DT, only to have them politely ignored by most (Thanks for the response, Andy!). Now when I see a lot of noise amongst what I consider to be signal, I begin to wonder. If you (plural) wanna see more DT content, insert some...
Now, of course, if I've misinterpreted what you were implying, feel free to shove a hot poker up my ass :)
