What's that from, anyways? I know I've heard that in a movie or an Anthrax tune or
    something... :)

    Fuck giving something a chance!

FULL ON! Reading the lyrics in advance sux almost as badly as developing your opinion
of a band off a 10 second clip... or a low quality MP3. And I still think that the dude who
made the MP3 did you all a HUGE favor, because you can't POSSIBLY wait for the new album... I
know it's not a choice, but something that you're OBLIGATED to download (don't even try that
line of grade "A" bullshit). I'm sure he's glad to hear that you all appreciate the favor.

I hope the new album sounds like Nirvana, and you make a vow never to listen to the
    band again.

    > There's a problem. It's not about art, it's about money. Most of the band's members have

I'm so glad we have someone here who can see completely into the minds of the band.
It would be so unfortunate if we actually thought DT had integrity, and played what they
wanted to play. I thank you for letting us know that DT wrote that song, and hopefully the
whole album for the sole purpose of making a buck, as opposed to making the music that they
    want to make.
I must have misread Portnoy... he mentioned that if DT ever sold out, to shoot him.
He must have meant that if DT NEVER sold out that we should shoot him, because obviously our
psychic friend has shown us that this is their intent.

    Okay--
I have downloaded and tried WinPlay, WinAmp, and the Mediamatics
audio player, and none of them will play younotme.mp3 correctly.
All I get is "Dream Theater is back on East West Records with a new
album" and it cuts off--Can anybody offer any more suggestions? I have
a Pentium-75 with 16MB of RAM. Are there any other players available
that my lowly system can handle?

I haven't heard the new song. I'm a little lazy to have to go and deal with downloading a 25M file and find an MPEG player. Oh well only 50 days to hear the real version.

Another Day was IMO the perfect song to get radio airplay. It got some but very little. I don't think it matters what DT puts out. Nothing will get much airplay at all. A metal band that is not well known is not going to make the playlists of many radio stations. I'm sure the cool and very rare hard rock/heavy metal stations with 10,000 watts will play them but the bigger ones may play the first single a couple of times, if at all. DT will sell a lot of cds just because they have such a cult following now. Members of the band are worshipped in many of the musical instruments magazines. I'm sure the band will do well but I hope it's well enough that they can stick around and keep putting out great music.

Then again if DT tried to be pearl jam or nirvana...

    the horror...

4 days until Division with Fates and Divine Regale... :)

Maybe the truth is the following, and that no one knew how to phrase it properly......

Common Ytsejam Phrase: You Not Me sucks, yadda, yadda, I know because I am Super Music Aficionado (TM).....

Maybe what you really mean is: You Not Me is great, it's the Ytsejammers that suck nadz.....

MY $.02......Anyway, I am not going to listen to YNM, not because I don't want to, but because if I start downloading it now, it won't FINISH downloading until September 22.

No way, man. We're Ytsejammers. Whomever can state his or her opinion using more curse words than the others wins! > WHOOPS! Ok guys, I have to apologise to the band and Kevin Shirley and > say > Desmond Child sucks! *big grin* At least it's not our favorite band's > fault.

You're really not too quick, are you? Is this Kevin Shirley's new album? Is this Desmond Child's new album? DT plays only things that they think are cool. If they thought this song sucked, they would not have said "Yeah. I think we SHOULD have Desmond Child help us out!" If they thought he would make them sound like Silverchair, they wouldn't have sought Kevin Shirley as the producer. I remember about a year ago, so many of you fuckers were patting yourself on the backs saying things about how open minded you are, and how prog fans were very open minded people. I remember getting flamed for disagreeing, too. But yeah, you know... this new song (which I haven't heard) sucks, and fuck DT going in any direction but down the paths they've already cut. Let's hear more Metropolis rip offs spun over and over again into the same song with a different name each time! Let's make sure we have the flashy guitars and high vocals so they don't sound like Def Leppard. We're open minded. We give two shits. > I can hear them very well, if I block out a SNARE that's louder than the > lead vocal track.

Hahahah! Well, I doubt you'll think it sucks when you see DT live. Would you have the ballz to say that to them? > When you release music of the quality DT has released in the past, you > have some pretty high expectations to live up to. Why do we have to sit here bitching? This isn't like a sports team that's TRYING to perform and just can't. DT is making the album the way they WANT to. It's not about failing... they're accomplishing what they set out to do when they recorded this album. If you don't like it, cool... but what makes everyone think that the rest of the jam cares AT ALL? If you have some insight into a song, that's helpful. If you want to compare this version of the tune to the live one or something, great. But if all people are going to do is voice their opinions about what isn't, but should be, then we're all a bunch or assholes! No, better, we're YTSEJAMMERS!

    > should draw some flames... :) ) fans. I recall a lot of whining when > Queensryche released HitNF... and if FII is as bad as HitNF, you better > unsubscribe for a few weeks when it comes out.

And miss all the fun? I'm loving watching so many jammers make assholes and hypocrites of themselves. I just hope I can witness some of the ass kissing that will be going on when DT comes to town, and people decide that the new material is good, again. > I'm grateful for the new music, because I'll buy the album and go to > DT's concerts and support them just like I always have, and if I'm > spending money supporting them, I think I have a right to complain that > a song sucks.

I respect what you're saying, and I think that you give a better case than most of the whiners out there as to why you're saying what you're saying. There's no way and simply no REASON to make you like YNM... but to piss on the team that made this album for it, and to piss on DT, and talk shit about the band for making one song that you don't like, is stupid, don't you agree? Some people don't. Maybe we're getting a little bit spoiled. I remember when buying a cd that had 3 songs that I liked was a big victory... there's not that many bands that are really infallible...

    >You Not Me is the best piece of songwriting DT has done yet.

I'm getting pretty sick of ppl sucking up to the band and the fans of the band and trying their absolute hardest to avoid confrontation. I personally like the song quite a bit. In fact, I'm not at work right now because I had to come home and listen to it a few more times, but that doesn't change the fact that it is not one of the better songs they have done. I like the fact that people are posting their opinions about the new song. Some of them have been pretty out of line like those that have predicted the album is a sell out and so forth, but what's wrong with opinions? I mean you gave your opinion, and I gave mine, but since they are positive does that make them better than someone else's opinion? just wondering.

I bought two copies of APSOG to support the band....I was thinking about getting my second copy autographed by them. The question is, are the guys in the band OK with giving autographs out especially after playing an entire set? Thanks for any help.

Yes - the guys in Fates are all very cool about hanging out with their fans. When they were leaving the club after soundcheck to get something to eat, they took the time to stop and sign autographs. I had some pictures from the '92 Parallels tour when they hung out by their tour bus with us for a long time after the show. So they signed the pictures for me and had a good laugh looking at them. Then after the show, they came back out and signed more autographs. I got some posters signed then. When I left, they were still all hanging around talking to people. The only one who disappeared quickly was Jim Matheos. Take your camera, too. Even if you can't take pictures during the show, Ray is really nice about posing for pictures with you. Enjoy - it's a great show!

Ahh, I see the 'jam is back at full flower. Did I insult you, Adam? If you think I'm a F*cking Idiot, that's your business, but don't insult me, or I'll put you in a TRASH CAN! :)

While the low quality sound file makes me think that the _tones_ (i.e. the production, depending on who you ask) will probably be OK - upon further reflection from the post you are referring to - I don't think the mix will be, IN MY OPINION. I _hated_ the Journey album's mix - it sounds weak IN MY OPINION - so that probably colors me a bit. But I think I can extrapolate, based on his earlier work, a "reasonable approximation" of what it _could_ sound like.

Hell, we don't even know if this is the final mix.

I had an emotional reaction, based on what I thought might happen with the choice of producer. I'm pretty sure I _won't_ like the mix of the whole album if it's along these lines - and I hope it won't be. My apologies if some people took this to be stupidity or (later) ignorance - I shoot from the hip. It's a personality trait that makes me hard to deal with at times.

Bogie said (removing quote from me)

No, it's not - Adam's analogy was a lot closer than that one. The source recording is just a bit better, for one thing. ;) > >You've heard Kevin Shirley's other stuff? How about Aerosmith's last >album, Nine Lives? I thought that album was well produced, but you >know, that is just my opinion. Right now - I have _no_ opinion >on the production because I have nothing to back me up. There is no >logical way you can base an opinion on nothing.

Well, at least you didn't call me a dick. :) I couldn't stand Nine Lives either. I admit to coming in here with a bias against Shirley - I haven't liked his work before. Bob Rock does the same thing to me - I don't understand what the big deal is.

I've already apologized for the emotional response, but I'll do it again. > >When will labels learn? Did the label pick the producer??? No. >Were I&W and Awake poorly produced? I consider Awake (as do many >audiophiles) to be one of the best produced albums ever because of its >clean tones. But, of course, that's just another opinion. However, >that is an opinion based on a legitimate recording which makes it more >substantial than your view on YNM being poorly produced.

OK, I see your point. I blew off the steam now that I should have gotten rid of way back when the boys picked Shirley in the first place. Third apology.

I agree with Awake being a good one, with the exception of the snare being a little dry for my tastes, and the seven string guitar stuff being a bit muddy. I&W would have been even better, if it didn't have triggered drums. I was _hoping_ for a whole album that was more like a cleaner ACOS - my favorite in terms of the "blending" of the tones, if not the "cleanest". I guess I just like layering...

So here is my new, improved statement on the subject:

In view of what I have heard, and extrapolating from that small amount of source material, in comparison with hearing the other projects Shirley has worked on, I think the production on this song is too "radio friendly" for my tastes.

    >Dr. Mosh said: >>I will reserve my opinion till after the album is released... > >At least someone else besides me is going to do this. Thanks, Mosh!

We all want to be like Mosh, right? :)

    >Except I thought about the feelings I wanted to convey in you. So, next >time before you submit something to the Jam, take a couple seconds to >look over what you wrote. It'll help everyone out.

Point taken - I just lose control sometimes. That's what I get for let my opinion run away on a Monday... :)

    Hi

I have "the Fix for 96" as Japan promo bootleg on 2CD.

If you are intessted I can put some samples of the new songs on my brand new

"PROG OR DIE" page. As you know "PROG OR DIE" is a progessive music page based

on DREAM THEATER, FATES WARNING, ROYAL HUNT and SHADOW GALLERY.

All you need is to mail me. I need also a mpeg3 recorder.

I think it's better then when I put waves on the page.

    Who have a mpeg3 recorder ?

BTW the new songs on the fix 96 are :

    - Burning My soul (Complete 9 min version) - Just Let Me Breath - Peruvian Skies - Lines In The Sand - Take Away My Pain

    Let Light Sorround You

wow... there's been a lot of discussion about YNM and it's merits the last few days. that's good. i'm all for healthy discussion about what we like and dislike as a collective unit of dream theater fans.

however, i have to wonder about people who are making generalizations about the *album* based on this downloaded song clip. you gotta be kidding me! if i'd downloaded "scarred" before i bought awake, i would have had reservations about buying it. quite simply, i didn't like the song at first. but i still would have bought the album, because there are a lot of albums that have one or two sub-par tracks. by the same token, "scarred" really grew on me... i really like that song now.

the only true test of an album is not an MPEG file. it is the test of time. case in point:

how many of you still listen to the Bee Gee's? how many of you still listen to the Beatles?

    i rest my case.

I think if you put Awake's drums in the ACOS mix, it'd be perfect. I honestly can hardly listen to ACOS because of that snare drum. But, we've been down this beaten path...haven't we? If FII has that piccolo snare, somebody please tell me, so I can avoid buying the album.

They also recorded each song until it was done. So any complaints or worries about sound um well, they could change with each new song! I've heard 5 new songs and 1 Burning My Soul is the only peel and paste they have done. Remember that it's pasted back on somewhere else. Like I said people don't open your mouth or even think about complaining until the CD has come out. By then I'm going to be hearing all this ass kissing and the like. By then all you sorry ignorant people will have sounded stupid too. I hope they forgive all you cuz you know not what you say!
