* i saw in one of the digests that someone mentioned some dt cd's that i actually
never heard nothing about and i'd really like 2 get an updated list of all dt's cd's
* does anyone know about sights in the web about drums/drummers ?
* does anyone knows about FII's releasing date outside of the US, say, maybe, in
Israel???
anyway that's all

I spent most of the weekend on a big Images & Words kick, driving around
listening to a tape of the album at least a dozen times...and while I may be
preaching to the choir here (can we get an Amen brothers and sisters), don't you
find that this is one of the most incredible albums ever? The variety of song
styles on there (Pull Me Under, Wait For Sleep, Take The Time...hard to even
believe it's the same band on all of these tracks)... I guess I am just itching
for the the new album (aren't we all?)....
DTDT: For those who have last year's fan club CD...
Ever since listening to Mike P's use of the jingle bells on the fan club CD,
I can't listen to the intro to Metropolis without thinking about Christmas
tunes....

Man, imagine this was 1992 and Images and Words was coming out. The first
singles are Pull Me Under and Another Day. Had you only heard those two
songs you'd be going "Aaaaaaaaah! DT sold out! It's wimpy! It's not prog!
Aaaah!".
It would be a really similar situation if PMU had an instrumental section
that they cut out.
Don't get me wrong, I like IaW as a whole, what I'm saying is: let's wait
and listen to the CD as a whole.
Plus, it's their band, and their art, and they choose how to present it. If
they changed the song, they have the right to because they wrote it. And I
happen to like that song, just as it is now.

We all knew this was coming. It was inevitable, but the album isn't even
out yet and people are already bitching about songs they haven't even
heard. Do I sense some lameass stupidity in this. Demos and studio
products are almost always different and it's not laways the producer's
ideas to change them. Hell, the stuff I've been working on seems to change
daily. It's not that it sucks, I just get bored of playing the same thing
the same way twice. There's no sense in bitching about anything that DT
does on this album because it's their choice to do it this way. If you
don't like it, tough shit, I guess you'll have to go find a new favorite
band. Personally, I wish DT all the luck in the world even if James goes
G-funk and tries to put the smack down on the homies in the ghetto, or
something. Some people really need to open their eyes. Whining isn't
going to make any difference.

How do I even begin to describe the event that took place Saturday night
at
Caravan of Dreams? Absolutely amazing, incredible, awe-inspiring...no
adjectives seem to do the Fates show justice. They played the entire
APSoG
as well as 3 encores, and I was still so sad when it was over. I wanted
to
see the whole thing over again right from the beginning. Ray Alder can
do no
wrong! He wailed - he even took stuff up and added in additional little
vocal parts that were really cool. Joey kicked ass on bass! Him and
Mark
got off on one part, but within a matter of seconds they pulled it
together
to end the segment perfectly. Of course, Matheos was brilliant, but
honestly, I was standing directly in front of the bass amp, so I
couldn't
always hear him too well. The only disappointment was the stand-in
keyboard player. He seemed to get off a couple of times, and everyone
in the
band had to give him the "head-nod" to get him back on track. He also
didn't
play any of the difficult keyboard parts (ie - the "Flight of the
Bumblebee"
segments), they just played the recording through the speakers while he
added
chords to look like he was doing something. It kind of took away from
the
overall effect in some places, but by no means ruined the show. After
all, I
think everyone understood that he had some pretty big shoes to fill!
..if
only Kevin could have been there! Oh well, still the most excellent
show I
have seen in a VERY long time. A big thank you to all the guys in Fates
for
the excellent experience and being cool enough to hang out and talk to
us
lowly fans before and after the show.
Wade - it was good to get to meet you in person! Wouldn't you know that
two
Ytsejammers would be the 1st two people in line! 'See you at
Queensryche!
Anyone who has a chance to catch the Fates show - DO IT! You will NOT
be
disappointed!

Hey Ytse-Duderz and Dudettes -
EXTREMELY good news on the new album front!!!! We all got our wish with a 78
minute album... WooHoo! Methinks this will be a VERY long month and a half.
:(
Regarding the chopping of "Burning My Soul", I was told at one point that the
version they played at the Fix shows was the finished product. In other
words, when they were talking about the "old middle part", they were
referring to a heretofore unheard section pre-Fix. However... now that I've
seen the track listing and the times, I am quite worried. It looks like the
cool middle part during the Fix shows may be cut. If this is true, I will be
disappointed. I thought that that part complemented the heavy parts
perfectly. Ah well. Let's hope the Fix middle part remains... I ain't
holding my breath, though.
Also, forgive me if this is a dumb or obvious question, but is there anywhere
I can download an MP3 player so I can hear "You Not Me"? I have a WAV player
and a RA player, but not an MP3 player. Or, can one of my current players
handle an MP3 file? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thaingks... Matt T.

Well, I was waiting for someone else to go...
It's okay as a song - I haven't heard the demo, and I don't think they
were playing this one at the "Fix" shows, so I have no pre - bias. The
chorus is catchy, not sure about LaBrie's "alternative" sounding vocals
at the beginning, though. I have one major question, however -
Where the hell is Derek? Petrucci is almost non - existent ('cept for
the wah parts - gotta keep that "alternative radio" sound going), but
are there keyboards on this? I can't here anything but bass (how odd!),
snare, vox, and a bit of kick drum.
Quite simply - and I know this is only a 22khz recording, but still -
the production SUCKS. Sounds just like every "hot" song right now. I've
heard his other stuff, and I didn't like the tones much on that, and I
don't like the tones much on this, either. I smell a record company
around here somewhere...
And who mixed this thing? Cripes... The band has a guitarist and
keyboardist, it'd be nice to HEAR them.
Don't get me wrong - I like the song. The sound, on the other hand,
leaves something to be desired...
"Sounds like the mix was done in a TRASH CAN" :)
I really hope this is just the recording, because if "Lines In The Sand"
sounds like this, it will be a slaughter of a great piece of music.
OK, now that I've probably p*ssed MP off, I have to wonder - how much
control over the mix do they have? Probably not much, judging by the
reactions to I&W and Awake, and I think it shows here, as well. When
will labels learn - well, OK, they won't ever, but it's nice to dream...
Flame On!

Yep - time to make out those draft lists. Somebody (Jason, I think)
mentioned putting up five bucks apiece and buy a Bahr CD or something as
the "trophy" for the season. I'm up for that...
BTW, there is some truth to the rumor that there's going to be a prog
metal festival in Maryland later this year. That's all I can say, except
for knowing that a popular band from Brazil is supposed to be playing...

hmmmm, well this has 'catastrophe' written all over it:) ..but it could
work if done right. We'd need a small group of ppl that are good at
arranging and putting songs together. Then the great majority just send
riffs to these ppl, and they just cut and snip till they come up with the
song. That'dbe the most practical and efficient way to go about it.
Creativity is irrelevant. Resistance is futile. oh, sorry:)
And to all of you complaining about Burning My Soul...look at the track
listing. Notice how Hell's Kitchen goes right after BMS. That could mean
it's a Mirror/Lie kinda deal. They just decided to give the instrumental
part a name. Yes, I could be wrong, but the point is... don't bitch about
something before you've even heard it.
Comments on YNM: very catchy song. I can't say it's the best DT song I've
heard, but still great. Definitely very straight to the point, but DT has
always had balance between simple and complex songs. Somebody said
something like "if they're prog, they should be prog all the way", well I
don't know where you've been but they've never been 'prog all the way'
whatever that means. They're not the ones who labeled themselves. Anybody
with half a brain knows they label themselves as psychadelic bluegrass. I
still get angry when they put them in the METAL section... they're
bluegrass dammit! BLUEGRASS!!!
JEEZ!
