    Greetings all,

I've been out of the loop for a bit and was just wondering how many of
the Cleveland area 'jammers are going to
the Fates Warning concert. From all of the reviews so far, it seems like
a show that should not be missed. It will
be my first concert in Cleveland, since I just moved here a week ago.
Shoot me a private e-mail if you can...caught-in-a-web@juno.com.

See ya all September 23rd :-)

    > might be, but PMU is no way a radio song.

Hmm. Funny how it got more radio play than Another Day...
Back in the age of I&W (Trends change faster than Time Sigs these days) PMU was a
fitting metal song. Metal was not completely OUT (Headbangers Ball still existed even!) and
this was the style it was headed... either more grungy or more technical.

    > Look at all the technicalparts and mood changes.

Contemporary radio hits are not all devoid of technique or mood. That applies to
today and yesterday... Most hit songs have at least as much mood and energy as PMU.

    > Look at the time signatures!

Is there any real time signature change? I guess it speeds up and slows down, but all
at the same BPM really... And I'm kind of sick of people acting like time signatures mean
anything as far as how complex or progressive a song is, or whether or not it could get on the
radio. Sting recently had a hit on a 9/8 song... you hear 12/8, 6/8, 3/4, 5/4, etc all the
    time. That doesn't mean anything.

    > It clocks in at over 8 minutes!

The radio release and MTV release are considerably shorter.

    > jam.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. If I'd heard Another Day first, I'd have bought
I&W and said "Wow! This is a great album." Instead, I heard PMU first, and I bought I&W and
said "Wow! This is a great album."

            Wow. You're a real fuckpan.

Granted, I think we were all annoyed by the Prog or Die overpostage, the guy
apologizes, and this dickhead decides to yell at him for it?
But I had to take time out of my schedule, and bandwidth out of your list because this
guy is a complete suckload. That post was as constructive as elephantitis of the left nad.

Now stop trying so hard. You're gonna pull a groin muscle.

            Infringement!

In case anyone was upset by Itchy's post, I want you to understand that he ran out of
prozac, and since the men in white suits found him and medicated him thoroughly, everything
will be much shinier and more happy, and there will be less of Itchy doing what he used to
    complain about other jammers doing.

[Phil Carter asked about venues in Atlanta for prog bands]

It would depend on the expected size of the show. For a smaller show,
the Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points holds about 4-500 and has
    good sound.

For midsize shows the Roxy would be the best bet, I think. Dream
Theater played there on their second visit during the I&W tour (or so
I'm told; either I never heard about the show or it happened just
    before I discovered DT). Capacity c. 1000-1200 I think.

As for the Fox, I'd love to see DT play there. If the new
album/single gets any decent airplay here -- and there's a chance,
with 96rock toughening its sound -- I think they could support a show
at the Fox. Capacity around 5000, a little less I believe, but a
    great venue for any show.

I'd really rather not see DT play the Masquerade (they played there
once before, too, with Early Warning opening), since the venue has
poor sound and annoying security people. Same is true of places like
the International Ballroom, which has all the warm acoustics of any
    other aircraft hangar.

    Hi all,

I just got back from seeing my second FATES WARNING show (Club Bene in NJ) in two days. They just get better and better; lost my voice AGAIN. ZONDER BE THY NAME!!!!!

Anyway, I was wearing my ANGRA shirt and was approached by a lot people shocked to see that someone actually had a shirt from them (I've never gotten so much mileage out of a concert shirt as I did this one!) and as I'm talking to a fellow ANGRA fan I see two VERY familiar looking faces walk in and its Michael Romeo and Thomas Miller of SYMPHONY effin' X!!! I was still talking to this guy but trying to watch them at the same time so I didnt lose them; I didn't wanna be rude so I kept talking to him and did lose them but found them again later on when they were talking with a bunch of people. The show was about to start and I didn't wanna lose my primo spot right in front of Ray Alder (I saw the fillings in his teeth my spot was so good :-)

Well, the show was even better than the night before (except for some drunk fuck cursing out Ray in the back or something..kinda funny) and afterwards I was looking for them but they jetted! ARRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..shitshitshit! SYMPHONY X was in my hands :-( As I was walking out I noticed someone else with the SAME ANGRA shirt and when I looked at his face it was Denis Gulbey (you know its him when you hear his voice :-) of SENTINEL STEEL!

This is when my jaw proceeded to dislodge from my mouth and fall to the floor in excitement. I asked him what was new in the progressive/power metal front and he said that there is a festival being set up for sometime in the fall in Baltimore, MD which will consist of mostly American bands (he mentioned a bunch of bands I can't remember now (damnit!) but whose names I definitely recognized at the time, NEW EDEN, GOTHIC KNIGHTS, SYMPHONY X!!!!, and get this (I'm praying to the gods of prog this is true!) .... ANGRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!! ANGRA on US soil!!

I may be a bit premature by announcing this but screw it..I can dream! I really hope this is pulled off cuz Baltimore is 5 hours away from NYC and thats just a short walk compared to the 12 hours it took my friends and I to drive from NYC to Chicago for the Jason Becker Benefit. Can anyone confirm even the smallest amount of truth to this!?!?!? Someone else also mentioned this at the show and this only fueled my fire to see this awesome festival!!! Please be true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, what a great night though.

    1) Garth Brooks diverted all the concert traffic away from Jersey. "Moonshine..yeehaa" 2) I've NEVER gotten so much mileage out of a concert shirt as I did w/ ANGRA. 3) FATES WARNING shifted my universe (yet again :-) 4) SYMPHONY X was there!!!!!! 5) I found out about the sickest festival that the US may ever see (ANGRA and SYMPHONY X on the same bill!......I'm not worthy) 6) and Oh Yeah...since my friend was wearing a NEVERMORE shirt some guy came up to us and said "You know they're gonna tour the US soon right. They're playing Randolph(?), NJ on Sept. 29th." My jaw was non-existant at this point. 7) To top it all off...as I'm exiting the club I hear a car stopped at a red light BLASTING (and I mean BLASTING.. SYMPHONY X "The Eyes of Medusa")!! Something I'd never even think of seeing EVER in my life.

Perfect end to a perfect night. At least in some small corners of the world metal is alive and well :-)

cheers, Carlo (aka Fates, aka YtseMatheos)

    Ahoy,

Well, the Ytsevening was really cool! A friend and I got to meet a couple of the cool folks on the jam and listen to some Lemur Voice and Superior after dinner. Hopefully we can get together in future months again, possibly in December in the weeks before Christmas when some others that weren't able to make it this time can meet other jammers in their city. I would encourage anyone on the jam to call a hangout with your fellow jammers in the area, as it turned out really cool. One extra note - wear your Rush:TFE shirts - some waitresses give out free chips and cheese dip to those weilding such attire!

I also picked up Royal Hunt in the used bin... this stuff sounds sorta neoclassical, and neo-prog... with a little hair metal in it.... heheheh

    Hello there, and Hi Rick,

Yes, that's right. But you make one mistake. The low-level signal on the right channel of disc two of "Wake Up!" is a Japanese radio or TV station broadcast.

All of the copies of the PPV broadcast, mine and my friend's, of cource 1st generation from the broadcast, has such signal on the right channel. And on the point of a prayer for the victims of the Hanshin-Awaji earthquake, the signal level goes to zero with main sounds. This tells this undersireable signal already exist at the TV station where were the people who control the sound level for broadcasting.

So, we can know the source of "Wakd Up!" bootleg is just the PPV sound track.

On the other hand, about "Mind Control" bootleg, yes, this does not have such signal. And I think the source of "MC" is direct sound board recording before the causing the contamination of the signal.

This is what I think about the soundboard recordings.

I agree. Get 'Sunsets' first, and 'Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors' after that. 'Internal Exile' is also good, but nowhere near as great as 'Sunsets' & 'Vigil'(IMO). 'Vigil' is still a bit Marillion-ish in places. 'Sunsets' is completely different... it's dark, moody, lotsa loops and samples (like Porcupine Tree)... So far, it has my vote as album of the year (at least until September 23).
