You're missing the point that DT has given Mike permission to do these
CDs. The creators of this material have okayed it. So there is nothing
wrong with that. They've chosen to give the "sub-par" material to the
die-hards. Since it's their material, they can do whatever the hell they
want with it. I have read in previous jams that some of the DT members
disapprove of bootlegs. Well, if they really had a problem with Mike,
then they would have stopped it long ago.

I wasn't around when Jeremy Haynes was here, and, I've never been ripped
off by someone on the jam, let alone the internet. But, I've heard a
*lot* of stories about this. I personally wouldn't want to be ripped
off, does anyone? Most people I've traded with(money, and/or dubs) have
also been careful not to get ripped off, too. I really don't think I'm
or anyone else is lazy because they don't want to be ripped off. Hmm,
let's pull out the old Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary from 1973,

how the fuck am i stabbing anybody in the back?? all i am doing is
making it known that i had no involvement in the production of these
cd's. i didnt get a penny for it and i had no part of the creation
of it. i would *at the least* liked to have been made aware that mike
was using my recordings. after i gave mike the clones of the 4 holiday
shows i also traded some clones to mike portnoy so the band knows where
the source material came from. if they ever hear the cd they will
assume that i am taping shows and selling them.

that is exactly what i am afraid of happening and is why i posted in the
    first place.

mark, if i ever see you at a show or at a ytsecon or something,
you better be prepared to back up your "coxucker" comment.

i cant believe this. mike bahr sells cd's of the same thing i gave away
for free last year and he is a saint and i am a cocksucker...

Yes he can, he's the moderator. :)

And 'posts about DT boots' are, by definition, related to DT. Posts about the legality, morality, and finances of bootlegging are not.

But, this list belongs to the pos(t)ers, and not to Skadz, so...

..to save Skadz some time, I'll volunteer to sacrifice <Ben Stein> My Inbox </Ben Stein> to a Bahr-boot straw poll. Email me, jw@winternet.com, with the subject

And say whether or not you approve of his advertising, whether or not you approve of his bootlegging, and, if not, why not. Please keep the 'why' to one line. (I suppose you can include a 'why so' instead of a 'why not', but it's kinda irrelavant to the case at hand.)

One week from today (Tuesday, August 18) I'll mail the results to the jam and to Skadz. Your name will be kept confidential.

    Hello, Friends,

It is true that 'speaking' is an emeny to the singer. The reason for this is essentially very simple. Most of us speak from our throats. We are more glottal in our enunciation. Singing - at least good, strong, clear, bright singing - is more resonant, and emanates from the facial masque, JLB understands this well, and employs the technique when he vocalizes. I have come to appreciate, as a student of voice, certain dialects that are naturally more resonant, thus becoming increasingly song-like. More than this, listen to a singer's speaking voice, and often there is a correlation, i.e. Barbara Steisand. The technique can be learned, but some people are idiomatically predisposed to it. And indeed, though it could quickly irritate loved ones, placing the voice on the resonant vowels in a hum like fashion, even if one was not to actually sing, will preserve the voice.

Also, the voice is not an amp, even Sebastian Bach, aka Marshall Mouth, is using a vocal cord and musculature to produce sound. The cold causes muscles to constrict, just as they would standing in the snow waiting for the bus. Professional singers often call this "Vegas Throat" - moving in and out of limos from one show to the next, breathing cold night air before entering a theater or hotel. The principal is like that of exercising. Typically, limbering up the muscle groups, "warming up" will prevent strain or injury. Drinking a cold glass of water in the middle of a set is inviting a physiological response that is not conducive to maintaining a strong, even flow. I would suspect JLB knows this, too. It is requisite knowledge for anyone who has studied classical voice for four years, as he has.

    Peter
