Well, since it's DTC, I figured I'd post it to the jam. Of course
I'm way behind in my reading, but hopefully I'm not repeating info

This is a question ive had in the back of my mind for a while... about
how much actually goes to DT, for each album sold? A percent would be ok
    :) .. then we'd have to divide into 5.. hehe ...

What I don't know is how many sales constitute Platinum status in Japan.
In the US, it's 1,000,000 - but it must be lower in Japan. Anyway, Fates
has never sold above about 350,000, I believe.

It doesn't matter how many copies they sell - you're not going to hear
DT on the radio very much. If FII was to sell, god help us, 25 million
copies, maybe. But knowing the current state of the U.S. music listener,
if that happened, I'd be looking for green pods around someplace -
'cause those people would be impostors...

You know, this really bothers me - there were about 325 - 350 at the
Springfield, VA Fates show, and everybody else is returning attendance
numbers of 100 or less - and I thought this area sucked...

As for talent vs. commercial success, it's like comparing apples and
oranges. I agree it's a shame, but welcome to the music business. A good
hook and MTV, and it doesn't matter how bad the singing is or how dumb
    the lyrics are.

Personally - I remember when Iron Maiden was HUGE, and got no MTV or
radio support. That was before the brainwashing of the U.S. music
listener was complete. Now, I'm pretty sure that this kind of thing
would be impossible. Then again, it was supposed to be impossible when
    Maiden did it...

    Hey George and fellow Ytsejammers,

this is in response to DAUS' email:
I don't know where you are located but there is a clinic in ORLANDO AND
TAMPA. Since the one in Orlando is too far out of the way for me to make
after work and I am in North Tampa, I will be attending the one on
Wednesday August 20, 1997. It should be TOTALLY COOL!! I hope he'll sign
some of my Guitar magazine covers that he was on. I'm bringing them just
    in case. :)

I'd like to clear up some of the confusion. The dumbasses who print these
things in the Jam, a Tampa Bay Area Musician's Magazine, only printed the
one on Monday the 18th (today). I have called the Thoroughbred in Tampa
and they have confirmed that John Petrucci will be doing another clinic
there on Wednesday. The guy at T-bred said that there are NO tickets
required for this clinic. I believe that each of these clinics are free
to the ("Progressive" :)) Public.... just kidding, anyone can go and be
    totally ASTOUNDED!

Any Tampa Ytsejammer/DT fans that want to go and don't have a ride, just
let me know. Or if anyone still has ANY questions about this, PLEASE
don't hesitate to email me directly.

I'm hoping to get my friend and DT fan, Jim, to go. (george, you know who
I'm talking about. :)) I'd love to hear some samples from Falling into
Infinity!!!! I'll be wearing my ytsejam shirt to show support. :)

    Take care,

Actually, I think they did play Fates stuff recently (either the Fix shows,
or back on the ACOS tour). I think I remember hearing "Monument" among the
pre-show tunes (including, of course, "Rooster" :)).

In Providence in 96, they played Monument, and if I remember correctly
they played Point of View a year earlier in...um...Long Island, I think.
I would guess they play Fates pretty frequently...

The Fates show in Cleveland was quite awesome (thanks to everyone who
helped me find the place.) Someone opened a huge can of whoop-ass
in part 2 of APSOG, and the intensity level for the whole thing was
through the roof. The only problem was the keyboard didn't sound quite
right in the old songs, but I think it would've been better if it had been
mixed higher. It's hard enough for keyboards to replace guitars in
general, but when you can't *hear* the keyboards, it becomes almost
impossible. This was most apparent in the Eleventh Hour, but the song
managed to kick my ass anyway because Ray belted it out beautifully.

Sitting through the opening bands was difficult. Tempo Tantrum was pretty
good I think, but I'm not familiar with them so I couldn't really get into
it. Arena was pretty bad, IMO...the singer sounded like he'd been hired
just for his ability to scream, and they had a serious lack of dynamics
and not much melody. And their clean guitar sound was mixed so poorly that
it was really painful to listen to. Way too bright. That probably wasn't
their fault, but in general, they didn't impress me at all. And RAMM, the
most pissed off band in Cleveland...well, at least they were amusing.

    Hi everyone,

It seems the jam has gotten back normal. But I was reading some of my
WWII notes from high school. It seems in WWI people thought that if
things could go right if they wanted them to. But in WWII they had given
in to the thought that things will always be "fucked up." This reminded
me of the jam, immediately. They made up these little phrases the one in
my title is pronounced SNA FU. The phrase after that is TAr FU meaning
Things All Fucked Up. The last and only used under really bad situations
was FU BAR. I think everyone will think back to the impostor when I say
this, Fucked Up Beyond All Repair. :)

umm was it the singer? ..i remember it as being the 2 guitar players or the guitar player and the bass player.. anyways..i cant compare the 2, Shannon hoon was a drug addict who overdosed and died,..it wasnt an accident...what i mean is...he brought that to himself, with drug abuse,...unlike neil 's daughter and jims dad

I have no idea what that that means. Please elaborate on this syncopation addition yielding accentability phenomenon.

Only two beats in 6/8? But 6/8 has the same number of eighth notes as 3/4, but has only two beats, whereas 3/4 has three? I think this notion of beat evaporation needs to be elaborated upon.... :)
