I saw this too, but I remember them saying that the average artist/band
receives $1.25 for every disc sold. That would be a quarter for each DT
member if they are the "average" band.

About $8 per disc goes straight to the record label to pay for the various
costs of producing an album (and to put a nice wad in the executives
pockets, I might add). Stores buy new release, full-length CDs for around
    $9-$10 each.

Again, I heard this on Dateline or some derivative show. I have no idea how
    accurate this is.

Let me start off with a few comments (not flames). Tears by Rush, Wait For
Sleep by none other than the masters themselves... what do these two and some
of the other songs on the list have in common? They are NOT prog songs, but
they are played by prog. bands. Hmm... SDV may be prog. but then again that
depends on one's definition of prog. Whatever list you submit, hope it works
for you. Speaking of a song for girlfriends, what about Voices? My fav. from
DT and it has its share of prog.
    Next topic...
To the guy who saw the Ibanez Universe for $1500. Don't get it!!! Get the
Ibanez RG 7-String. I saw it in a store by me for $899 AND it looks nicer
    too.

Fuck counting days, I know we all can't wait till 9/23,

This is true (I taped it last night, along with 'Deth's "Anarchy in the UK" -
can't believe that was played!). I also saw "Prison Sex" quite a bit a few years

Um..for you guys who own ibanez universes or rg's 7 string...
how do you buy strings for it???? ...like..I need to know all of
this..im planning on buying a Universe

Is this a trick question or a wind up ?
Where do you reckon ? How about a music store, you walk in ask for a set of
     strings
and over the money, get your change, walk out of the store,
then when you get home you can put the new strings on you guitar.
Really it's that simple my friend.

    YES !!!
I finally got to hear YNM on CD !
I visited my local record store, they had an Elektra promo CD with YNM on
it, my mate in the shop put the disc on for me and cranked it up.
What can I say, great tune, it rocks, with a bit of airplay could be the
song that breaks DT in the US.
Great tune, but 'Lines In The Sand' is the song that I can't get out of my
head at the moment, 'Peruvian Skies' is great too.
When I asked about the Japanese release of 'FII', my mate said it has been
'delayed' and that they will get the US import first on September 23rd.

They're already out. Sounds decent, but the only feature I really like is
that Lo-Pro trem :) Other than that and the seventh string, it's just a
standard guitar. Nothin' fancy. Seymour Duncan needs to make 7-string
    trembuckers :)

    Hi all

Here's my contribution to the how-can-I-turn-my-girlfriend-onto-
metal-and-get-into-her-panties thread: try the cover version of the
Marillion song 'Kayleigh' on the Vanden Plas album Accult.

If anybody is interested, I've done two compilations for my car
stereo that I've called 'Metal Guitar Goes Acoustic' and 'Metal Piano'
that are sort of along the lines of this thread. If anybody wants the
    track listings, let me know.

I swear, I play Marillion for people and they say - "well, this is kind
of mellow" - and then I crank it up and the transformation is AMAZING.
If you listen to M quietly, you lose some of the dynamics, and a lot of

scheme, which i usually don't do, but the colors even have a DT vibe.
everyone needs to check this out. They also have movie themes and stuff if
anyone wants batman or 101 dalmations on your screen all the time.

Over the years, I've never really had anything good to say about Fates on
this list. I never understood all the praise heaped on them. The only
Fates I ever bought was Parallels, which most Fates fans consider a pretty
good album. I never, through countless attempts, got above a STRONG
dislike for it. Sold it. Bye bye.

If anything, the last week or so has taught me to believe in redemption.
APSoG is outstanding. Like all of you didn't already know. I am no fan of
Ray's drawn out phrasing, but here it's not as obvious and when he does
meander through the lyrics, it seems to fit the music a lot better then I
remember. I always thought people were screwed when they said how great
Mark Zonder is, but like I'm gonna argue after listening to this? No way.
Guitars were great - I used to think they had two guitarists because they
needed them. Yeah, right. And the lyrics, which I HATED on Parallels,
were never less than good here and sometimes they were great, which most
albums can't even come close to. Kevin was not as much of a force as I
expected him to be, but hey, it's not his band, and his playing was still
great. Oh, and Joey Vera and that fretless bass. He actually had the good
taste not to overdo it, something that most fretless players can't seem to
    grasp. O.K. I'm done.

If you're a bonehead like me and thought you were better off without this
    album, think again.
