Having heard a lot of these band names floating around, I picked up a few
of their CDs. Still haven't gotten in the Spock's Beard.
Got Shadow Gallery 'Carved in Stone'. I really like this album. It is
growing on me everytime I listen to it. The piano on this album is really
something. Looking forward to their new one!
I was really blown away with Enchant's 'Blueprint...' album. Wow! Can
anyone tell me anything about this band? Has anyone heard the album
'Wounded'? Are there any videos (bootlegs) or demo/bootleg tapes of this
group?
Finally, can anyone recommend other prog groups in the vein of Spock's
Beard, Enchant, or Shadow Gallery? Would I like Lemur Voice or Angra?
You can email me if you wish to keep NDTC off the Jam.
Thanks for any info!

:) Actually, there's no complicated definition of melody, but I think that
in a lot of views, the last note of a melody is the most important, and by
not holding it out and giving it more power it can give an uneasy feeling
to the melody. I feel that Ray has the vocal talent to pull it off, but in
a less talented singer it can sound really bad, like they can't wait to
stop singing the song and go get a beer.

Funny, I still can't see what the deal is. I probably don't wanna know.
If you don't like it, though, you must not be a true prog fan. That's all
I can say. (FLAME BAIT! FLAME BAIT!)
Anyone else notice how LOUDLY mixed ASSPOG is anyway? Goodness. When I
put it in the changer on random (what the fuck is this? It should be
listened in one piece!) it is substantially louder than the rest of the
CD's.
Also, anyone notice Joey Vera being thanked in the Parallels booklet? It
says "(thanks to) Joey Vera for filling in." So does anyone know what
parts Vera filled in for DiBiase on that album, if any at all?
>Finally, can anyone recommend other prog groups in the vein of Spock's

Ahhhhh.... Lemur Voice doth rule, my friend. I would say they have an
original sound, but there is an obvious DT influence in there. (No
surprise, you still around here, Marcel?) I'd say it's a worthwhile shot
to buy Insights. I luv it.
As for Angra, they're a little harder to explain. Mebbe you oughtta hit
http://progmetal.gmsnet.com/prog.html and download a couple of soundbytes,
first. The Dr. Mosh, M.D. has a plethora of prog clips there, and all
I've heard so far are good.

Chris! You ended a sentence with a preposition! Shame on you! The
correct sentence should be "The correct pronunciation depends fully on
which store you purchased the guitar at, asshole." :)

Well, I will never own a V-shaped guitar. I can't play those things when
I'm sitting down. This doesn't count, though, because the look of the
guitar adversely affects its playability.

Try classical position, bud. Works great on those big, bad-assed Vs :) Yeah man, Jacksons rule :)

Don't know about the VK-7. I even donno what it is.... :-)
but I DO know that JP-8000 is a great keyboard!
The only bad thing about it is that it has only 4 octaves...

Ok, I give up.... I don't get it!! What am I missing on APSoG?
I have listened to it at least 10 times now, straight through, beginning to end every time (not 10 times in a row, different days :P ), and every time seems just as boring as the last. I have Parallels and Perfect Symmetry, and I like both of those, and I do not listen to metal exclusively (as someone predicted recently). My tastes range from jazz to funk to prog (old Yes, ELP, King Crimson, old Genesis, Fish-era Marillion, etc.) to "classic" metal (Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple...) to prog metal to electronic etc.... just about anything except country and opera (although I can at least appreciate opera, just not something I enjoy listening to)
The CD is one long song, and it feels that way to me... one LONG song
If there really is something I am missing on this CD, seriously, let me know
/me dons flame-retardant suit 8^)

1- How is the Mission Impossible theme related to DT? Did they do a cover song or something? Where can I download a mp3/ra with the song? 2- LAST THEORY QUESTION (at least, for now) :) Where are the accents in a normal 5/4 measure? Can someone point some DT's songs where the accents are NOT were they were supposed to be? (ya know what I mean...the syncopation stuff)

It's not secret, so I'll just blow it...
I can't include Where Are You Now and Raise The Knife on Mosaic. They're going to be the b-side demos from the FII releases, beginning with the Japanese version. :) Don't worry folks, I have an abundance of soundboard and demo treats to add in place of those. Since you'll all have the songs anyway, now that they're being released. :)

I have a single extra Marillion ticket for the show scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th at the Somerville Theater (Boston). I bought the ticket and now I hear that they suck moose dick.
No no no no, really I love them a lot but I will unfortunately be away on business that week and will not be able to go. With complete and comprehensive pro-rated Ticket-Bastard boneage it cost over $20, but I will part with it for $15 for one lucky jammer. If there is anyone interested, please let me know.

Okay, one of the best things about lurking on this list is the recommendations from fellow jammers for other progressive rock/metal bands. So I feel I should reciprocate/contribute. The only DTC is that THE QUIET ROOM have opened for DT here in Colorado - cool ;-)
I saw these two excellent progressive metal bands live last night in Denver, Colorado. THE QUIET ROOM and PSYCO DRAMA played in a night club about the size of my living room and it was absolutely awesome. If you live anywhere near Denver and missed this show - you really missed this show! If you do not live in Colorado try and get hold of the CD's by either or both of these bands.
THE QUIET ROOM are a six piece prog metal band with strong genre influences but a unique and powerful sound. There are two guitarists that share lead roles, awesome key player (Kevin Moore's successor in prog metal IMHO), talented bass and drummmer and a strong vocalist who leans toward the Geoff Tate style. Most are music students from Berklee (!) or local colleges. These guys can write and play!! What comes out are short and long tracks that mix the best elements of Images and Words and Awake style prog metal. Their full length CD is called "Introspect" and is availble domestically from Dominion Records - check out their WWWpage. Much more than a clone........
PSYCO DRAMA are a more straight forward metal outfit with five members (no full time keys but they use 'em alot in studio ala QUEENSRYCHE). This is 90's power metal with complex song construction, intense melodies, time changes, sudden stops and starts, crunchy guitar riffs, and great _great_ vocals (this guy Corey Brown is outstanding!!). Their first full length CD is called "The Illusion" and the next release "Bent" is due out in Europe in September and USA in October; both on DCA Records.
Sorry to gush so much but there is some real talent out there (here :-) ) and they deserve to be discovered and appreciated.
Bye, Kevin D.
