Well, I was watching Lois and Clark today (no idea why) and it suddenly hit
me. Metropolis is about Superman. well , duh! isn't it obvious.

"she carried a gift from her home"

"she" is Krypton ; the gift is Superman.

    it all makes sense, actually.

    (that was a joke, BTW)

on another note...'Drag the Water' by Pantera. it's about Aquaman. naw
    j/k:)

but towards the end, is it just me, or is Phil shouting "UHURA! UHURA!"

hmmm, maybe Phil is a trekie?:)

    lalalalalala,

Please don't mistake my tone for aggressive here, but why not talk theory? Even if it is only basic stuff, there's always going to be people learning from any response one of these questioning posts might get. Unless the response is wrong, of course, but, uh... Anyway, one of the many things that makes me stick with the 'Jam is that, since it is made up of many a musician, I could ask a theory-type question and probably learn somethin', or, better yet, read the answer to someone elses question, something I had no idea I was ignorant in (preferably), and get the same achievation of information as I could solo-questioning without 'embarassing myself' (I've only had one yr of high school theory, and whatever I picked up in 10 yrs of piano lessons, btw). While modes and such may get monotonous (sort of an oxymoron, but this will be ignored) after awhile, there's no sense in bottling up a font of knowledge just because a few people are tired of reading what they already know about.

And, while I'm standing up for what I believe in for once, who else thinks Pepsi Kona is a bad idea? Who's with me?! Yah, rally, men -- we'll rid this place of the foul coffee/soda combination. ...this is all *Snowball's* fault (right, comrades?)! Two legs good, four legs bad-ass!

Whelp, the time has come for me to lift my wings and fly out of the nest. That's right, folks, I'm headin' to college. So, for any of you who might care, my address as it stands will cease to be in a couplefew days. The new one will be a bit more civilized than the present: hender@wam.umd.edu We can only hope that I'll follow its example -- the parents are real tired of me running filthy and near-naked through the house, all the while gnawing on rats, picking lice out of my hair, and swinging on light fixtures. Or so I would assume, considering I can't comprehend language. The doctor says a frontal lobe could be installed, but, really, who's got the money for that?

    Hi Jammerz

I'm a bit behind in my digests, so forgive me if this has been mentioned herebefore.

The weekend before last, Neil Pearts' daughter, Selena Taylor (19 years old) was killed in a car crash. The National Midnight Star has set up a place to leave your thoughts and condolences, on their homepage. In addition, a Selena Taylor memorial fund, has been set up to aid poor musicians who wish to attend college. Selena was just about to start college, before she was lost.

Now why is it that you *just had* to post it? Perhaps to get other people on the Jam to reassure you of your righteousness? There's something called PROPRIETY, folks. According to my online Webster's, it can mean either "the standard of what is socially acceptable in conduct of speech: DECORUM" or "the customs and manners of polite society." This includes not posting to a public forum what is meant for private e-mail.

I personally don't care if the Jam is nothing but a repository of bathroom invectives or flame wars, because I know how to title scan for DT content and Bafu/Ptacek witticisms. But I do care when a personal e-mail is waved to the Jam as a red flag signalling a cavalry to come and help a contrivedly persecuted victim.

What Mike did was the equivalent of George Farber posting to the Jam a private e-mail from a Jammer saying, "Please stop posting to the Jam all your invitations for a good fucking." Many Jammers may have sent e-mail of that nature, and didn't carbon-copy it to the Jam because they felt that it would just add to the verbiage/NDTC on the list.

So, by reposting something that was taken to private e-mail, Mike Bahr has pumped the bellows that fan this flame war. Congratulations.

Please note that I didn't comment on bootlegs, bootarms, pumplegs, or any type of footwear- that's a different controversial issue for a different time.

    Mint Yoo-hoos forever, -Julie

    Hi all

my CD dealer just went and bought himself a new Porsche, paid for with my money. Some of the stuff I just got has already been dealt with here, so I'll keep my comments of those albums short, but some of the albums haven't been discussed on the Jam before, and these albums may be of interest to some of you. Here goes

Slo Burn - Amusing The Amazing

The new band of ex-Kyuss frontman John Garcia. Anybody who likes Kyuss will like this - it's almost like son of Kyuss. The hard, rocking blues/rock riffs, the driving bass and drums, the distorted guitars that make you wish you didn't have such expensive speakers, and, of course, John Garcia's unique vocals. The desert sound lives. Only 4 tracks, but still 10/10.

    Conception - Flow

These guys just keep improving from album to album. Everything seems right this time. Khan's vocals are perfect - this guy is in danger of becoming my favourite singer. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this band on tour with Stratovarius soon. The weakest point is the title track, hence only 9/10. Does anybody else think the start of 'Would It Be The Same' sounds like "The Mirror'?

    Stratovarius - Visions

When I heard the intro of the first track, I thought I was listening to some old Queensryche stuff - an excellent opener. Some very good playing, especially from Timo Tolkki on guitar, but overall the album is a bit too much power/speed metal for my taste. Also I feel that some of the solos are a bit superfluous - OK guys, I can feel a solo coming on, yes, here it comes, ahhh. A recommendation for those of you who are into bands like Gamma Ray or Blind Guardian. From me, however, only 7.5/10. Sounds a lot like Angra sometimes, too.

Frederik Thorendal's Special Defects - Sol Niger Within

Sick, sick, sick. This shouldn't be allowed. This is an album that should get the floppy trouser parts of you true prog freaks standing to attention - 45 minutes long and just one track. For those of you who don't know the name, Frederik Thorendal is the guitarist with Meshuggah. Try and imagine riffs that are heavier than the balls of a concrete elephant, rhythms and chops that make life of all air guitarists very difficult, vocals that sound like Dani from Cradle Of Filth had nightmares, church organs that sound like Keith Emerson did some really bad acid, all topped off with guitars that sound like Pat Metheny and Allan Holdsworth got involved in a bad car crash and the remains were put together to make a single guitarist - that is what Sol Niger Within is like. Words like "brilliant" come into my mind. So do words like "sick", "perverse" and "what the fuck's going on here?". A clear case of 10/10.

    Rammstein - Sehnsucht

Germany's (the world's?) premier techno-metal band strike again. Hard, heavy, riff-based stuff with undeniable strong techno influences. A bit like Waltari's last release, but much heavier and darker. These guys have a great stage act, so go see them if they come anywhere near you. The lyrics are crap, so only 9/10.

Good contacts are good to have - a close friend of mine does the VIP catering for some of the big tours/festivals here in Germany, and he got me special access passes for Metallica in Stuttgart on Saturday. Forget 'Load', these guys are still one of the best metal acts around, new image or not. They only played 3 or 4 songs from the last album, but tons of old stuff, including an amazing version of 'One' and 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' (the sound of Jason's bass through a wah wah is too good).

Trivia time: the first track on 'Flow' is called 'Gethsemane', and the first track on 'Visions' is called 'The Kiss Of Judas'. Weird, huh?

Somebody mentioned that the new Crematory album will be called 'Awake'. Did you know there is a track on it called 'Mirror'?

Some people asked for the track listings of my metal acoustic and piano tapes. Enjoy, even though some tracks are not strictly just piano or even metal.

    Metal Piano

Desolate - Paradise Lost Space Dye Vest - Dream Theater Mandylion - The Gathering Gaia - Tiamat A Distance There Is - Theatre Of Tragedy Celtic Princess - Shadow Gallery Sand And Mercury - The Gathering Someone Else - Queensryche Alone - Anathema Do you Dream Of Me - Tiamat Deus Miserator - Paradise Lost

    Metal Guitar Goes Acoustic

Mano De Mono - Corrosion Of Conformity Past And Future Secret - Blind Guardian The Silent Man - Dream Theater More Than Words - Extreme Headstones - Lake Of Tears Blow 'Em Off - Monster Magnet Planet Caravan - Pantera Horizons - Genesis Out Of Mind - Queensryche Kaiowas - Sepultura Landslide - Smashing Pumpkins St Agnes And The Burning Train - Sting Nothing Else Matters - Metallica

You have suffered enough, children. Class dismissed.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Alastis - The Other Side

Anyone who can give me some info on that or who can dub it for me (like I've said, check out that Tape Trades page ;)) , please drop me a line at : dreamingh@hotmail.com

The last two messages you responded to and posted to the jam Wacky and I didn't even originally send to the jam! We sent them to you through private mail because we didn't think people wanted to read this shit, I know I don't. This means you're deliberately bringing up the argument on the jam even though we're trying to keep it off. Sure, you "really didn't want to post this kind of stuff public." You're obviously threatened by us otherwise you would have the balls to respond to us in private instead of flaunting your defense in public.
